Seminar on Artisanal Fishing in the São Francisco River Basin
Fishermen and fisherwomen from five Brazilian states - Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Alagoas, and Bahia - participated, on October 5th and 6th, in the II Seminar on Artisanal Fishing in the São Francisco River Basin, in the city of Buritizeiro (MG). Held by CBHSF, the seminar aimed to jointly discuss actions with fishermen from the Upper, Middle, Sub-middle, and Lower São Francisco for the defense of the river’s revitalization and the rational use of its waters. It also addressed topics such as the impacts of pesticides on the environment, the process of evaluating the risk of extinction of Brazilian fauna species, possible impacts of the Formoso Hydroelectric Power Plant, the flow rates and floods of the Velho Chico, expeditions, and, mainly, artisanal fishing.
