Don’t you just love the smell of Fall in the air? It may be the dog days of Summer outside, but the 13/14 TV season is just around the corner, and that means it is time to release our Annual New Season Overview. This year, we’ve expanded the cable section to include program descriptions for 26 networks. We’ve also expanded the Alternate Screen TV section to include more digital video services. The five broadcast networks are adding 26 new shows to their 13/14 schedule and are moving 14 returning shows to new time slots. ABC will introduce eight new shows, the most of all the broadcast networks. NBC is moving the most returning series, six, to new time slots. To guide you through the 13/14 season of viewing, our Overview includes: - 5-Network weekly schedule - 13/14 tentative Fall premiere dates - Recap of each network’s ratings performance in the 12/13 season - Night-by-Night network schedule analysis - New series descriptions (including mid-season programming) - Recap of Cable, Syndication and Hispanic TV ratings performances for the 12/13 season - Expanded Cable section with new program descriptions - Details on new programming from the major Syndicators, Hispanic Networks and an expanded list of digital video services We’ve reviewed the broadcast network pilots and there are two shows worth a look-see and both of them bring TV favorites back to the little screen. First up is CBS’s new comedy The Crazy Ones (Thursday/9P) starring Robin Williams as the owner of an ad agency. The next is NBC’s comedy The Michael J. Fox Show (Thursday/9:30P), which brings the cherished actor back to regular series TV in a show loosely based on his own life. Both are good comedies that can be watched by the whole family.

Happy viewing!

12/13 Broadcast Season Recap

12/13 C3 Ratings Performance (9/19/11-5/23/12, 9/17/12-5/22/13) Overall, network ratings are down versus last season, a fact that has been widely reported throughout the season. Most of the declines have come in the lower age bracket as T12-17 and A18-24 still spend time “watching TV” though not on a traditional TV set. As can be seen from the following data from Nielsen’s Cross Platform Reports: Cross Platforms - Weekly Hours: Minutes - Age 12-17 Q1 2012 Q2 2012 Q3 2012 Q4 2012 Q1 2013 Traditional TV 22:14 21:37 22:33 21:28 21:22 Timeshifted TV 1:35 1:30 1:39 1:37 1:39 DVD/Blu Ray X 1:05 1:10 1:05 1:07 Game Console X 3:34 3:40 3:27 3:24 Using the Internet on a Computer 1:18 1:14 1:11 1:08 0:58 Watching Video on Internet 0:19 0:23 0:29 0:29 0:29 Watching Video on Mobile Phone 0:22 0:22 0:26 0:24 0:25

Unlike ratings, the median age of the broadcast prime audience continues to rise, with The CW’s median age rising slightly more than five and a half years in one season. Regardless, it still remained the network with the youngest viewers, while CBS had the oldest. Households The 12/13 season was not a good one overall for FOX, which showed the biggest loss in ratings on all of our measures. On Households, FOX lost almost a full rating point. CBS remained the ratings leader, but dropped two-tenths of a point. ABC lost three-tenths of rating while NBC held steady on this measure. The CW dropped one-tenth of a rating point.

A18-49 At their upfront presentation back in May, CBS announced that they had won this demo. Well, that is true if you look at “Live” or “Live Plus Same Day” ratings. However, since C3 ratings are the currency for the way network television is bought and sold, those are the ratings we analyze. In that case, NBC and FOX are tied with a 2.1 rating on this demo, followed by CBS with a 2.0 rating. At any rate, with the exception of NBC, all networks are off a few tenths of a rating point on this demo.

A25-54 CBS remained the leader on this demo, even though they dropped three-tenths of a point. NBC took second and ticked up a tenth of a rating point versus the previous season. NBC got off to a fast ratings start, but slumped at the end of the season. Again, FOX lost the most in ratings, down six-tenths of a point, but was still able to beat ABC for third place. The alphabet network dropped three-tenths of a point while The CW lost one-tenth.

Of course, CBS remained the leader on this older demo, however, they lost four-tenths of a point. ABC was the second place finisher, followed by NBC and FOX. The CW gained a tenth of a point on this older demo, which can’t make them happy.

Top 10 Regular Prime Programs (9/17/12-5/22/13) If football were played year-round, NBC would be the number one network. But, the regular NFL season is only 16 games over 17 weeks, so the network has to be content with claiming the number one slot on three of our demos with Sunday Night Football again this year. CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, helped by its run in syndication, no doubt, was the number one entertainment program on A18-49 and A25-54. Network sibling show NCIS, which just completed season 10, was the number one entertainment show on Households and A50+. Both shows also saw their ratings tick up a bit versus last season. On the younger demos, NBC’s The Voice was the number one competition show, whether it involved singing or dancing. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars holds that crown on A50+. FOX’s American Idol squeaked into the top 10 on A18-49, but ratings are down quite a bit since its powerhouse days.

12/13 New Program Returns

Two of the four new series ABC introduced last Fall, Nashville and The Neighbors, have been granted a second season, even though both shows landed in the lower end of the top half of shows on all our measures. Though Nashville may not be burning up the ratings charts, its saving grace is the original music on the show. 40 songs from the first season were released to iTunes, with five of them reaching the application’s top five downloaded tunes at some point during the season, generating additional revenue. This network’s renewal of The Neighbors is just inexplicable.

The two freshman shows that were cancelled, 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort, were both dramas that did not catch on with the viewing public over the long haul. Other Shows Not Expected to Return: Body of Proof, Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, Family Tools, Happy Endings, How to Live with Your Parents (for the rest of your life), Malibu Country, Private Practice, Red Widow, Splash and Zero Hour.

Elementary is the only new show this network debuted last September to be granted a sophomore season. This show was the network’s number one new drama for the season. Made in Jersey got the ax after only two episodes aired, while Vegas, which got off to a good ratings start, petered out toward the end of its run.

Comedy series Partners had the enviable hammock position between How I Met Your Mother and Two Broke Girls but failed to maintain its lead-in’s ratings and was shown the door after six airings. RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 8

Other Shows Not Expected to Return: CSI: NY, Golden Boy, The Job and Rules of Engagement.

Just like last season, two of NBC’s six new shows will return for the 13/14 season. Both dramas that were introduced last Fall have been picked by the network, but the four comedies have all been flushed. Revolution was the number one new drama, overall, on A18-49 and A25-54, and as such has earned a sophomore season. Chicago Fire, the other drama to be renewed for a second year, also hit the leaderboards for the network.

Comedies Animal Practice, Go On, Guys with Kids and The New Normal all landed at the bottom half of the ratings pack and will not see another season. Other Shows Not Expected to Return: 30 Rock, 1600 Penn, Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, Deception, Do No Harm, Fashion Star, The Office, Rock Center with Brian Williams, Smash, Up All Night and Whitney.

FOX bowed three new entertainment and one new sports program last season. The Mindy Project and Fox Sports Saturday live to see another season. Despite landing in the middle of the ratings pack, The Mindy Project was the only comedy invited back for another season.

Comedy Ben & Kate and drama The Mob Doctor fell by the wayside after disappointing ratings for the season. Other Shows Not Expected to Return: The Cleveland Show, Fringe, Kitchen Nightmares and Touch.

RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 9

The CW introduced three dramas last Fall and the only one that didn’t make the ratings cut is Emily Owens, MD., which did get to air its 13 episodes.

Arrow, the network’s number one drama on A18-49 and Beauty and the Beast performed well enough for this network to keep their spot on the schedule. Other Shows Not Expected to Return: 90210, Cult and Gossip Girl.

13/14 Broadcast Season Preview

13/14 Broadcast Primetime Overview With the decline in ratings the five networks experienced during the 12/13 season, it is no surprise that the number of new shows they plan to introduce for the 13/14 season has jumped to 26, compared to the 21 they introduced last year.

Comedies outnumber dramas this year, something that has not happened since the 03/04 season when the networks introduced 20 comedies and 19 dramas. The three big networks are each premiering four new comedies to help fill the holes left in the schedule by the conclusion of long-running comedies like Rules of Engagement, 30 Rock and The Office. FOX will bow the lone new reality series, Junior Masterchef, in which 24 kids between the ages of eight and 13 who love to cook will compete under the watchful eye of Gordon Ramsay. Hopefully, he won’t yell at the kids the way he does at the adult competitors.

The network has elected to keep this night intact with its Dancing with the Stars and Castle duo, which helped it win first place on Households and A50+. However, big changes are afoot with DWTS as the show’s ratings fell off this last season and its audience continued to age. The network is chopping the Tuesday night results show, opting instead to announce the eliminated couple at the beginning of each week’s show. Rumors are also rampant that judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman will be replaced before the show’s 17 th cycle begins. Castle, which will enter its sixth season, finished in 13 th place on A50+ and 20th on Households. Like its lead-in, this show did not fare as well with the younger viewers, landing in 47 th place on A18-49.

Finishing in second place on all four of our measures on this night, where they are used to placing first on at least two demos, has forced CBS to make some changes to its schedule. Returning for its final season, How I Met Your Mother will continue to lead the night, but will be followed at 8:30P by a new comedy. After seven seasons, Rules of Engagement has been shown the door. We are Men gets the hammock position between HIMYM and the steady performing 2 Broke Girls. This series, starring Chris Smith (The Mindy Project), Tony Shaloub (Monk), Jerry O’Connell (Burning Love) and Kal Penn (House) as four men who have been unlucky in love. Smith’s character gets jilted at the altar and he moves into a short-term apartment complex where he RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 12

meets and strikes up a friendship with the other three men. They try to help him recover from his recent breakup and teach him the ways of dating in 2013. 2 Broke Girls returns for its third season and remains at 9P, after finishing in the top 15 on both A18-49 and A25-54. Mike and Molly, the usual 9:30P entrant, will be held for mid-season to make way for freshman comedy Mom, which stars Anna Farris (I Give it a Year, Entourage) and Allison Janney (Veep, The West Wing). Farris and Janney are mother and daughter who are both currently sober and dealing with issues in their relationship. Farris is also a single mother who must deal with her two children, ex-husband and assorted other characters. Hawaii Five-0 moves to Friday night and the network will debut the promising new drama Hostages in the 10P slot. Toni Collette (Hitchcock, United States of Tara) stars as a top surgeon who is abducted along with her family, just as she is about to operate on the president of the United States. Dylan McDermott (Dark Blue, The Practice) co-stars as the rogue FBI agent who abducts the family, drawing them into a world of political intrigue.

It’s all about The Voice on this night for NBC as the singing competition lifted the network to a first place finish on A18-49 and A25-54. When The Voice returns in September, so will coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. During its Spring cycle, both coaches were busy with other commitments and were replaced by recording artists Usher and Shakira. The replacement crew had no impact on the show’s A1849 ratings and goosed the A25-54 and A50+ ratings by a few tenths of a point. The 10P hour gets new drama The Blacklist starring James Spader (Lincoln, The Office) as Raymond Reddington, a former government agent who has become a wanted criminal. In the initial show, he turns himself into the FBI, offering to help catch a notorious terrorist who is plotting to blow up the DC Zoo. Reddington’s only demand is that he speaks exclusively with Lizzie Keen, (Megan Boone, Blue Bloods, Welcome to the Jungle) a newly minted profiler. This tense, fast-paced, psychological drama will be the one to beat in the ratings at this hour. Not only is it good, it will benefit greatly from its The Voice lead-in. This network fell to fourth place across the board on the demos we track and will be making a scheduling change in the nine o’clock hour. At 8P, Bones will return for its ninth season. New drama Sleepy Hollow gets the nod at 9P. Tom Mison (Dead Cat, Parade’s End) stars as the legendary Ichabod Crane who has been transported to the 21st century. Now, he will try to figure out how that happened and will try to unravel a mystery that dates back to this country’s founding fathers. Fans of the Washington Irving tale will be happy to learn that the Headless Horseman will also appear in this retelling of the story and is on a murderous rampage that Crane will try to stop.

Despite finishing in last place in the ratings race on our measures, Hart of Dixie was the network’s number three show on their core demo, W18-34. As such, it returns for a third go round and to lead the night for The CW. Beauty and the Beast earns a second season and moves to the 9P slot.

Finishing in fourth place again on A18-49 has forced the network to scrub its slate clean on this night. There will be two new comedies sandwiched between two new dramas. First up at 8P is Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., based on a series of successful Marvel comic books and movies. Clark Gregg (Ultimate Spider Man, The New Advenutures of Old Christine) reprises his role as Agent Phil Caulson who selects a small, highly skilled group of agents from the worldwide law-enforcement agency, S.H.I.E.L.D. The group will investigate all sorts of sinister plots across the globe, in an effort to protect the world’s population. The show is action-packed with a fair amount of special effects thrown in for good measure. The nine to ten block has the two new comedies, The Goldbergs, followed by Trophy Wife. Based on show producer Adam Goldberg’s youthful hobby of filming everything his family does, The Goldbergs, set in the ‘80’s, offers lots of laughs at the expense of that family. Wendi McLendon-Covey (Rules of Engagement, I Hate My Teenage Daughter) and Jeff Garlin (Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm) co-star as the parents and Sean Giambrone (I Heart Shakey) is the budding, young filmmaker Adam. Malin Akerman (Suburgatory, Burning Love) stars as the Trophy Wife, the younger, third wife of Bradley Whitford (Shameless, The West Wing). Kate (Akerman), the ex-party girl marries Pete (Whitford) after a whirlwind romance, then realizes she has to deal with his three children and two ex-wives on a daily basis. Lucky 7 caps the night for ABC and follows the lives of a group of gas-station employees who play the lotto together every week. How will the money affect their lives when they finally hit it big is the premise of this show. RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 15

The Lucky 7 (and the one guy who stopped playing) are Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (The Wire), Matt Long (Private Practice), Stephen Louis Grush (Detroit 1-8-7), Lorraine Bruce (Eden Lake), Anastasia Phillips (Stoked), Summer Bishil (Towelhead), Luis Antonio Ramos (The Ruins) and Christine Evangelista (The Joneses).

Taking first place across the board on this night, CBS is making only a minor change to its schedule. NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles continue to provide the one-two ratings punch for this network and will return to their normal slots. NCIS will enter season 11, while LA returns for a fifth year. Person of Interest, back for its third season, moves to the 10P spot to close the night for CBS. This thriller performed well for its network, taking ninth place on Households and fifth place on A50+.

There’s a new/old look for NBC on Tuesday as it moves three returning shows around this night’s schedule. The Biggest Loser, which always performs well enough for the network, will anchor the night as it enters its 15th season. The Voice Results Show slides up the schedule to 9P, followed by sophomore series Chicago Fire. In its debut season, airing on Wednesday/10P, Chicago Fire finished in the top third of the ratings heap on all our measures. The network moves it here to shore up the night. Dropping to third place on this night on A18-49 has forced FOX to bring in two new comedies to launch the night. Dads, starring Seth Green (Men at Work, Family Guy) and Giovanni Ribisi (Gangster Squad, Family Guy) as two friends who are in the video game creation business together. Each of them, separately, has their dad come live with them. If jokes about older men’s idiosyncrasies make you laugh, this show is for you. Peter Riegert (The Good Wife, One Tree Hill) and Martin Mull (yes, him again) are the dads. Next up at 8:30P is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Andy Samberg (Grown Ups 2, Saturday Night Live) stars at Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s best police detective, except he doesn’t take his job very seriously. Enter Andre Braugher (Last Resort, Law & Order: SVU) as the new, tough precinct captain who tries to get Andy’s character to grow up. Terry Crews (Arrested Development, Are We There Yet?) is the sergeant and Melissa Fumero (Men at Work, One Life to Live) is Andy’s supercompetitive partner. New Girl returns at 9P for its third season after suffering a little sophomore year ratings let down. The show finished its first season in 20th place on A18-49 but dropped to 34th in its RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 16

second year. Hurt by the weak Ben & Kate lead-in, this show should pick up again with the stronger Brooklyn Nine-Nine setting the table. The Mindy Project was granted a second season, despite falling in the middle of the ratings pack on A18-49 and will cap the night for FOX. New drama The Originals, a spinoff of the network’s successful The Vampire Diaries, will lead the night. Set in New Orleans, this show will focus on the original family of vampires from the host show. Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, The Grind) will repeat his role of Klaus. Supernatural moves to 9P, as it enters its ninth season.

The network continues to make adjustments to this night’s schedule as it fell to third place on all our measures. The Middle, for some unknown reason, continues to lead the night as it begins its fifth season. The usual 8:30P occupant, Suburgatory, is being held for mid-season to make way for Back in the Game. Maggie Lawson (Pysch, Justified) stars as Terry Gannon, a former college softball player and single mom who must move in with her tough-as-nails, ex-baseball player dad she feels she has disappointed. James Caan (Magic City, Blood Ties) is hilarious as the dad coming to terms with his daughter and grandson moving in. Modern Family will start its fifth season, still this network’s number one comedy and still the number two comedy overall. The network is hoping Back in the Game will be a more helpful lead-in to its crown jewel and it should be. Super Fun Night is the network’s new 9:30P entrant which Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids) stars in and produces. Shy attorney Kimmie and her two nerdie friends decide to finally take their weekly Friday Night/Fun Night out into the cold, cruel world. Will this be the last time these three friends leave the great indoors for a night of fun? Rebel Wilson fans will enjoy the show. As for the rest of us --- oh well. Drama Nashville will return for a second go-round in the 10P spot, for the reasons stated on page eight of the New Program Returns section of this document.

It was a first place finish on A50+ and second place on the rest of our measures for CBS on this night. As such, the network will bring back this evening’s entire schedule intact. Survivor will continue to anchor the night as it begins its 27th round of competition, followed by Criminal Minds, entering a ninth season. It’s a 14th season for CSI as the show remains consistently in the top 30 on all our demos, except A18-49, where the show places 36th.

Regardless of its repeated fourth place performance on this night, the network will introduce only one new show, that in the 10P hour. Last year’s strategy of leading the night with two comedies failed, so this year NBC will move last season’s successful freshman drama Revolution to kick things off. Revolution ended its rookie season tied with FOX’s The Following as the number one new drama, overall, on A18-49. Ratings wars veteran Law & Order: SVU returns for season 15 with star Mariska Hargitay continuing her role as Detective Olivia Benson. Followed by Ironside, the sole new program for NBC on this night. Blair Underwood (Thunder and Lightning, The Event) stars as NYPD Detective Robert Ironside, paralyzed in the line of duty, yet still on the job leading a team of specialists on the toughest cases the city has. This is a reboot of the Ironside series which starred Raymond Burr and ran on this network from 1967-1975. Underwood has the role that Raymond Burr made famous, except he is infinitely better looking. Again this season, FOX wound up in first place on all of our demos except A50+ where they were a full rating point behind first place finisher CBS. The ratings woes experienced by both The X-Factor and American Idol have been well documented all season. However, they still perform well enough to give this network the win on this night. Hence, The X-Factor will again air this night as the network’s only program, even though the show lost around a full rating point on our demos, season-over-season.

RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 19

Arrow, which made its debut for this network last season, performed well enough to be invited back to begin the night. Following at 9P The Tomorrow People, a remake of a cult ‘70’s British show, will hit the airwaves. In it, Robbie Amell (Scooby-Doo!, The Mystery Begins) stars as one of several young people with paranormal abilities. He must now choose between his newfound cohorts and a ‘normal life’ offered by a group vowing to wipe out the Tomorrow People.

ABC remained in third place across the board and again will introduce only one new show on this night. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland gets the call to open the evening. This spinoff of the network’s Sunday night hit, Once Upon a Time, focuses on Alice (Sophia Lowe, The Slap), a young and beautiful girl in Victorian England who tells a tale of slipping through a rabbit hole, into a world where she has seen an invisible cat, playing cards that talk and a hookah smoking caterpillar. Her father believes Alice to be insane and places her in an institution where doctors aim to give her a treatment that will cause her to forget everything. Just in the nick of time, the Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha, Being Human) and the White Rabbit (John Lithgow, Third Rock from the Sun) arrive to save Alice from that fate. At the end of its ninth season, incredibly, Grey’s Anatomy grabbed the 19th spot on A18-49 and 20th on A25-54. With a ratings performance like that after so many years on the air, renewing the show for a 10th season was an easy-peasy decision for ABC to make. Scandal made its debut with a short, seven-episode arc in April 2012 and performed so well in the ratings, it was granted a full, second season in 12/13. This brain child of Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes will be back for its third season at 10P after increasing its A18-49 ratings by three-tenths of a point.

CBS swept first place on this night and yet will tinker with the schedule, nonetheless. RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 21

For The Big Bang Theory, its sixth season on the air ended with the show ranked as the number one comedy in all of broadcast on all four demos we track. Needless to say, the show gets another season and will continue to anchor the night. New comedy The Millers will debut at 8:30P and stars Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Up All Night) and Jayma Mays (Glee, The Smurfs) as a brother and sister who each get custody of one parent when they divorce. Beau Bridges (The Goodwin Games, Franklin & Bash) is the dad who goes to live with his daughter and her family and Margo Martindale (The Americans, A Gifted Man) is the mom who moves in with her newly divorced son. Given its lead-in and talented cast, this show will perform well for the eye network. Robin Williams (The Big Wedding, Louie) returns to weekly series television at 9P in The Crazy Ones as Ad Agency owner Simon Roberts. Williams is at his frenetic best with Sarah Michelle Geller (Robot Chicken, Ringer) as his daughter and polar opposite. Together, they run the agency which also employs James Wolk (Mad Men, Political Animals) and Hamish Linklater (The Newsroom, The New Adventures of Old Christine). This is a strong entry that will help the network keep its ratings momentum on this night. Two and a Half Men slides up to 9:30P for its 11th season. Ratings for this veteran comedy were down eight-tenths of a point on A18-49, but up half a rating point on A50+. Drama Elementary returns for a second season at 10P after a good ratings performance in its debut season, ranking as the network’s number one new drama on A18-49.

Mired in fourth place, NBC will scramble its lineup in an effort to move forward. With 30 Rock gone, Parks and Recreation moves to 8P to lead the night, as it enters its sixth season. Year-to-year ratings are off a few tenths of a point for this comedy which has almost a cult following. Welcome to the Family is the first of three new comedies NBC will introduce on Thursdays and it will air at 8:30P. Two families, one white and one Latino, will be blending together as two of the kids have fallen in love and the girl becomes pregnant. Mike O’Malley (Glee, Justified) and Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight, The Unprofessional) are the parents of the girl, who barely made it through high school. Ricardo Chavira (Warehouse 13, Desperate Housewives) and Justina Machado (The Call, Private Practice) are the parents of the boy, who was the class valedictorian with a very bright future ahead of him. This all changes as the young couple decides to marry. Next up at 9P, Sean Hayes (Smash, Will & Grace) stars in Sean Saves the World as a gay, single parent of a teenage daughter, Sami Isler (Home Run). Hayes is trying to be the best dad he can, with the help of his mother, Linda Lavin (The OC, Alice). At the same time, he is dealing with a

new demanding boss at work who doesn’t completely understand Sean’s dedication to his daughter. Michael J. Fox (The Good Wife, Rescue Me) follows at 9:30P in The Michael J. Fox Show, a smart comedy, very loosely based on his life. In it, Fox is the beloved former WNBC news anchor Mike Henry who signed off from his job to deal with his Parkinson’s disease. He is now ready to go back to work, much to the relief of his family who is happy to have him out of the house. The ever-moving Parenthood gets the 10P slot on this night for its fifth year on the air. Ratings for this show actually ticked up a bit on all our measures. No schedule changes are being made on this night as The X-Factor Results Show returns at 8P and Glee at 9P. A fifth season of Glee was granted even though it is not quite the ratings performer it once was. Ratings for A50+ remained flat but are down a few tenths of a point on our other three demos. In addition to cast member Jayma Mays, who will costar in CBS’s The Millers on this same night, cast regulars Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum, Jr. will not be returning next season. Mays, however, has been cleared to appear as the new Mrs. Schuester for just a few episodes. Due to the untimely death of actor Cory Monteith who portrayed a central character on the show, Glee’s season premiere has been pushed to September 26. Two episodes that have already been written will air, while the third episode will be a tribute to Monteith. The show will then go on hiatus to reassess its direction. Vampire Diaries is back at 8P for a fifth season and gets yet another new neighbor at 9P. Reign chronicles the rise to power of Mary Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane, Teen Wolf) when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes and dark forces.

It was a nip/tuck victory on A18-49 and A25-54 as ABC beat CBS by a tenth of a point on each of those demos. For the 13/14 season, Last Man Standing will return to kick things off at 8P. The show, which saw some ratings fall off from the previous season, will begin its third season with a different lead-out as Malibu Country was not invited back for a second year. Instead, ABC has moved The Neighbors to the 8:30P slot for its sophomore season. Shark Tank continues in the 9P perch for its fifth season, where it grew around half a rating point on each of our demos. Friday night staple 20/20 returns at 10P to finish off the night for the network.

CBS remained the number one network on this night against Households and A50+. There will be just one change to the schedule. Undercover Boss keeps the 8P slot as it begins its fifth year of company leaders donning disguises to infiltrate their employee ranks in an effort to improve performance. The one change on this night for CBS is that Hawaii Five-0 moves to the 9P slot. The show finished last season, its third, in the upper half of the ratings rankers. Blue Bloods retains the 10P slot for its fourth season. The show finished in eighth place on A50+, but in the middle of the pack on our two other Adult demos. RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 24

On each of our demos, NBC was the number three network and will introduce one new drama at 10P. Dateline will start off the night, followed by a third year of Grimm at 9P. This fantasy/horror show managed to improve its ratings performance in its second year, even though NBC put the show on a 14-week hiatus right in the heart of the season. Dracula is the new show on this night, though its story is a familiar one. This tale of Dracula is slightly altered as the Count is now posing as an American entrepreneur in 19th century London who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Albert Nobbs, The Tudors) is Dracula. It was a fourth place finish for this network on all but A18-49 where FOX tied for third place with NBC. FOX is both scrubbing the slate clean and throwing in the towel at the same time on this night. Junior Masterchef, a cooking competition show for kids, gets the nod at 8P followed by repeats of Monday’s new drama, Sleepy Hollow. America’s Next Top Model moves yet again, this time to the 9P spot. The Carrie Diaries performed well enough for this network to win a second season at 8P.

ABC ended last season in third on all of our measures except A18-49 where they finished in fourth place, just as they did in 11/12. Guess that doesn’t concern them much as their schedule remains unchanged until 10P. Apparently, as long as people continue to film themselves doing stupid stuff, America’s Funniest Home Videos has a place on ABC’s schedule. The show will return at 7P for its 24 th year. Once Upon a Time, this network’s number two drama on A18-49 comes back for a third season at 8P, while Revenge also gets a third season, returning in its 9P post. Revenge saw some ratings falloff on our demos, but did well enough to get renewed. Try as they may, this network cannot find a drama that pulls in ratings at 10P. This year, they will try to solve their problem with Betrayal. Hannah Ware (Shame, Boss) stars as Sara Hadley, a photographer who begins an affair with a lawyer. That lawyer, Stuart Townsend (Robot Chicken, The Night Stalker) becomes the lead defense counsel in a murder case. Sara’s husband, Chris J. Johnson (Body of Proof, The Finder), is the opposing prosecutor on the case. This suspenseful drama will make a good companion piece to its Revenge lead-in.

This network rose to first place on Households and A50+ and second on our other two adult demos. The night’s schedule remains intact. 60 Minutes will continue to lead the night, with Amazing Race following at 8P. The Good Wife returns at 9P, followed by The Mentalist at 10P. Both dramas suffered ratings falloffs, which are to be expected as the shows are entering their fifth and sixth seasons, respectively.

Through fourth quarter, NBC will air its coverage of NFL football, which helped them win first place on A18-49 and A25-54. As usual, once football season ends, Dateline will take the 7P slot. At 8P, competition show American Dream Builders gets the nod and will be hosted by interior designer and Oprah protégé Nate Berkus. Each week America's top designers, builders, architects and landscapers will go head-to-head, performing extreme home renovations. These renovations will be judged by Berkus and a panel of experts to determine which team achieved the best results. In the live finale, two remaining competitors will each design and renovate a home on their own. America will then vote and crown one contestant the winner. Finally on that show, the two homes will be given away to two lucky viewers. New supernatural drama Believe will debut at 9P. This show focuses on a 10 year-old girl (Johnny Sequoyah, Ass Backwards) with special powers. The orphaned girl has been raised and protected by a small group known as ‘True Believers’. Now that she is older and her gifts are stronger, the threat from outsiders who would use the girl’s powers for their own gain has become even more dangerous. Crisis, starring Dermot Mulroney (New Girl, Enlightened) and Gillian Anderson (Hannibal, The XFiles), will cap the night for NBC at 10P. A group of high school students on a field trip are taken hostage. Since their parents are some of the most powerful people in Washington, an international crisis is ignited.

Following football in fourth quarter, the network will continue to air The OT, which performs as well as the football games that precede it. The rest of the evening remains animation domination, with one small change in that line-up. The Simpsons are back at 8P for their 25th season, but gone is The Cleveland Show. Instead, Bob’s Burgers gets the call at 8:30P, as it enters its fourth year on the air. Rounding out the night are Family Guy, entering season 12 and American Dad, back for a ninth year.

The top 10 shows on our demos are usually sporting events. However, since there was a presidential election last year, FOX News’s America’s Election HQ managed to crack the top five on all four of our measures. AMC’s The Walking Dead, in its original prime run, performed so well this past season, it is a top 25 show on A18-49 and A25-54 when combined with broadcast network television programming. The History Channel’s special series The Bible pulled in big ratings for the network and is also in the combined top 25 on our measures. There will be a sequel to this mini-series, produced by Mark Burnett (Survivor, Shark Tank), written by The Apostles, et al., but it won’t air in cable. NBC won the bidding wars to air the sequel tentatively titled A.D.: Beyond the Bible, which as the title suggests, will pick up after the crucifixion of Christ.

13/14 Cable Overview Traditionally, the third quarter is cable’s sweet spot; the time of the year when they debut many of their original series. Though this past season, they did have a short run of fresh episodes of series that usually air in third quarter like Rizzoli and Isles (TNT) and Suits (USA) during fourth and first quarter. A few shows have debuted already and those that are performing well so far include dramas Falling Skies (TNT), Burn Notice (USA), comedies Sullivan & Son (TBS), Men at Work (TBS) and reality shows Naked and Afraid (Discovery) and Swamp People (History). Lifetime’s Devious Maids created by Marc Cherry and produced by Eva Longoria (both Desperate Housewives alums), made its series debut on June 23 to good ratings, landing in the top 20 on A18-49. The show chronicles the lives of a group of maids in LA and the families they work for. The show has garnered some negative press, due to the fact that all of the maids are Latina and the families they work for are not. It hasn’t hurt them in the ratings department, as results for each of the episodes aired so far have ticked up a tenth of a point or at least held steady. Upcoming new cable shows include dramas like The Bridge (FX), Cedar Cove (Hallmark) and Lost Angels (TNT). In terms of comedies, Ground Floor will debut on TBS and Comedy Central will bring us Drunk History. What would cable be if there were no reality programs and there are several coming our way including Owner’s Manual (AMC), Divorce Diva (Bravo) and All In (USA). The following section has details on these and other new shows for a select group of cable networks.

Austin). Twisted centers on a charismatic 16-year-old with a troubled past, who recently reconnected with his two female best friends from childhood. truTV heads to one of the wildest and most outrageous pawn shops in the country based in Miami, the Cash Dome, run by Josh “White Boy” Gallander. Cash Dome Pawn deals with disruptive clientele to negotiating with housewives and businessmen. White Boy, his brother Josh, and their overwhelmed dad certainly have their hands full in this latest entry in truTV’s pawnshop franchise.

Two successful mother and daughter child talent managers couldn’t be more different in the way they manage their growing business – Lorri has an intelligent, discerning, elegant and sweet-as-can-be approach, while her mother, Nikki, who is the female version of Archie Bunker prefers the unfiltered, brash, with a lovable disregard for decorum approach. TVGN presents a new spin on the celebrity bio or documentary. We’ll look at the most captivating stars and detail specific, defining meltdown moments in their lives or careers. Look for episodes like Lindsay Lohan’s Fall From Grace, The Final Year of the King of Pop, Out of the Closet and many more including multiple episodes on The Cheating Scandals that Shocked America (featuring Tiger Woods, Jesse James and Tony Parker).

Four beautiful, wealthy sisters are under the thumb of their “traditional-value” parents who were born and raised in Mexico, came to the U.S. and made a fortune building a tequila export empire. Born and raised in Southern California, the girls’ independent and spirited “new world” values clash with their parents’ “old world” beliefs and commitment to their culture.

Then, at the height of their success, in-fighting and drama lead to their demise. After a 15year separation the trio reunited in an attempt to recapture their fame at the top of the music charts. Alternate Screen TV

13/14 Alternate Screen TV Overview According to the April 2013 IAB/GFK study, 45 Million Reasons and Counting to Check Out the NewFronts, 45 million A18+ (19%) view Original Professionally Produced Online Video (OPOV), like House of Cards, at least once a month. Though that is a smaller number of A18+ than those who watch traditional TV programs online (23%) and the 31% who view User Generated Content (UGC), this whole nascent area is ripe for advertisers to reach their consumers.

Demographically speaking, OPOV viewers skew more male and are slightly older than the TV Online viewer. Viewers of UGC have the highest HHI, while TV Online and OPOV viewers’ HHI are basically the same. Laptops remain the dominant device for viewing any of the three video sources followed by Internet Connected TV for TV Online viewing. Smartphones and desktops remain popular with viewers of UGC.

As the online video arena continues to grow, more and more suppliers will offer OPOV. For the 13/14 season, we will focus on the new programs coming from the following four services.

RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 73

Amazon Unlike most of the other providers we will examine in this section, Amazon’s primary business is e-commerce, not digital video distribution. Amazon began offering its customers Prime membership in 2005, whereby, for an annual fee, eligible items sold on the site have two-day, free shipping. In 2011 Amazon began offering streaming of selected movies and TV shows to its Premium members at no additional cost. For the 13/14 season, Amazon will make available to its Prime members five new OPOV series; two comedies and three kids shows. Amazon chose these series by having their prime members vote. 15 pilots were available on their site and members voted for their favorites. These five titles won and were awarded a full series of episodes. AOL On Network AOL has come a long way since its America Online days as an ISP. You can still have mail on AOL, but now you can also watch any one of 14 new series and other videos via AOL on Network, a curated hub for their video content. The 14 new series lean heavily toward the reality/docu-drama style rather than the scripted series. Topics for the shows include entertainment, food, style and technology. Either in front of or behind the camera, these series have some famous names connected to them including Sarah Jessica Parker and Ryan Seacrest as producers of two separate shows and Hank Azaria, Nicole Richie and Rocco DiSpirito as stars of other shows. Hulu After months of speculation that the video service would be sold, Hulu’s owners NBCUniversal, 21st Century FOX and the Walt Disney Company have decided not to sell. Instead, they will invest another $750 million in the company to keep it solidly in the game. Hulu generated about $695 million in revenue in 2012 via ad sales and through 4 million subscribers who pay for monthly access to Hulu Plus, their premium service. In addition to continuing to offer fresh episodes of two former ABC soaps All My Children and One Life to Live, four new OPOV series will join the Hulu slate in 2013. Two comedies, one docu-series and one animated series are scheduled to bow in late August or early fall of this year. Netflix The 15 chapters of Arrested Development that Netflix debuted this past May have been a boon to the video streaming service. So, there is no surprise that talks are ongoing to bring a second season of the show (this series overall fifth season) back to Netflix. Based on the success of Arrested Development and House of Cards, Netflix will add four new scripted series. One of their new dramas, Orange is the New Black, has already premiered and been renewed for another season. The remaining drama, comedy and thriller are all scheduled to bow either this fall or sometime in 2014. Descriptions of all the series planned by these four services follow. country, when combined with broadcast network prime programs, it ties with The Voice and American Idol for fifth place on A25-54. In syndication since 1999, Family Feud has seen its ratings invigorated since current host Steve Harvey took the helm in 2010. The combination of Harvey as the host and upgraded stations and time slots has helped the show gain a little more than half a rating point each on A18-49 and A25-54, compared to the previous season. The show made the top 20 on all four of our demos. RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 80

Judge Judy continues as the number one court show and tied for first place on Households with Wheel of Fortune. Speaking of court shows, the field will get a little thinner next season when Judge Joe Brown, the second highest rated show in the genre, ends his run after 15 years. Ratings were slipping, however, and a deal with CBS Television Distribution (CTD) fell through amid a salary dispute with Brown. CTD thought his compensation should be decreased to reflect the show’s ratings dip; Brown thought he should be paid more. And so the plug was pulled. The show will continue to run through September. Of the five new talk shows debuted by our select syndicators, three remain on the air for a second season. Katie, Steve Harvey and Tricia Goddard performed well enough for another season while Ricki and Jeff Probst were not as lucky. Though Katie will air for a second year, rumors are swirling that the star is not happy with the direction the show has taken and feels the show has been dumbed down. The show will have a new executive producer for season two who promises to find the right balance between news stories and celebrity gossip. Still, a third season remains in question. 13/14 Syndication Overview This year, our select syndicators will premiere 17 shows in syndication, the same number as last season. Six of the 17 are off-net shows, four are talk shows and the rest are a mix of reality, drama and entertainment news. Off-Net Properties Off-net programs are the bread and butter of syndication and usually garner big ratings. This was the case again in the 12/13 season, as evidenced by our rankers where six of the top 10 shows on A18-49 are off-net properties. Twentieth Century will bring four shows into syndication and they are all off-net: Cops Reloaded, Glee, Modern Family and The Cleveland Show, which has completed its broadcast network run. All are good ratings performers that will do well in syndication. Warner Brothers has two off-net comedies that are moderate ratings performers in their network slots: The Middle and Community. Where these shows clear in each market will be the key to their syndication ratings success. First-Run Properties Each year sees new talk shows debut in syndication and this season will be no different as four new yackers will hit the air in September. The sole entry in late night brings Arsenio Hall back to the genre. Hall hosted a successful talk show that ran from 1989 to 1994 in syndication. Expect him to attract the same young, hip, urban audience this go round. Bethenny (Bethenny Frankel, Real Housewives of New York), The Test (Kirk Fox, Parks and Recreation) and The Queen Latifah Show (Queen Latifah, Single Ladies) will duke it out in the daytime ratings race.

RJ Palmer Strategic Insights 156 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 212.541.6770 www.rjpalmer.com 81

The lone new entry in the court genre is Paternity Court, where DNA science will either bring families together or tear them apart. It’s sort of like Maury, but set in a court room. Following are shows that will be new to syndication this fall from our select group of syndicators.

You are probably wondering how ratings remain so high. The answer is that Univision has 52 weeks of new programs; their novelas are never repeated (do you hear that general market networks?). Each novela airs for a limited number of weeks. Once they are done, they are replaced with a completely new series. To be fair, the majority of Univision’s novelas are produced in Mexico, while a few are from Columbia and very few are produced in LA or Miami.

The costs for their programming are quite a bit less than series produced for any of the general market networks. Beginning in 2007, at the request of Univision and Telemundo, the two biggest Spanish language networks, Nielsen began measuring and reporting Hispanic ratings using their general market sample. Naturally, when ratings for the Hispanic networks are reported using the full general market populations, they are drastically lower than when using the Hispanic universe as the base (as seen in the charts on the previous page). Though the ratings are lower, the same shows are in the top 10, although there are a few changes in position. Top 10 Hispanic Programs– Prime – Live Ratings Rank
