When we requested family-favorite recipes from days gone by, we didn't expect to hear about the memories that came to life when our agents thumbed through old recipe boxes and books. Remembering moms, dads, grandparents, and others who made past holidays wonderful was an extra treat. EGGNOG 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 Tbsp. sugar
2 c. whole milk 1/8 tsp. salt
DIRECTIONS: Mix eggs, sugar, & salt on high for 2 minutes until thick, or lemon-colored. Add milk & vanilla. Mix until well blended. Serves 3-4.
ORANGE WASSAIL 2 c. sugar 1 12-oz. can frozen orange juice 3/4 c. lemon juice (approx. 3 lemons) 2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. almond extract 1/8 tsp. ground cloves 2-3 qts. water
DIRECTIONS: Place all ingredients in large saucepan & bring to a boil. Simmer until served. Garnish with orange slices.
RANCH PRETZELS 1 pkg. ranch seasoning 1 tsp. lemon pepper 1 tsp. dill (dry)
1 tsp. garlic powder 1 c. canola or olive oil 1 20-oz. bag pretzels DIRECTIONS: Combine all except pretzels, mix well. Pour over pretzels & toss. Place on cookie sheet & bake 1 hour at 200o, stirring every 15 minutes. COLDWELL BANKER TOMLINSON GROUP

MINESTRONE SOUP 2 oz. salt pork, cubed (optional) 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 small cabbage, chopped 1 med. onion, chopped 2 stalks celery, chopped 2 cubed carrots 1 med. can tomatoes 1 generous pinch of marjoram & rosemary
2 qts. water 11/2 c. green peas 3 beef bouillon cubes 11/2 c. kidney beans 1 c. spaghetti noodles broken into small pieces 1 clove garlic, crushed Salt & pepper to taste 1/2 c. grated parmesan cheese DIRECTIONS: Brown salt pork & ground beef. Dissolve the bouillon cubes in the water & combine all ingredients but the parmesan & cook on low until done (until spaghetti noodles & vegetables are tender). Just before serving sprinkle with parmesan.
OYSTER STUFFING 1 box cubed, seasoned stuffing mix 1 c. butter, melted 1 can (15-oz.) evaporated milk 3 eggs, beaten 1 med. onion, chopped
1 c. celery, finely diced 3 cans oysters with juice, chopped 2 tsp. Season-All salt Salt & pepper
DIRECTIONS: Mix together melted butter, evaporated milk, & eggs. Add remaining ingredients, except for stuffing, & mix well. Add stuffing & toss. Stuff turkey or place in glass casserole dish with lid. Bake at 350o for 4560 minutes, checking often as oven temps vary. cbboise.com

JELLO CRANBERRY MOLD 21/2 c. fresh cranberries 12/3 c. water 2/3 c. sugar
1 pkg. orange Jello 2 tsp. grated orange rind Dash of salt
DIRECTIONS: Place berries, water, sugar, & salt in saucepan & cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until berry skins pop & berries are soft. Drain liquid into bowl. Measure that liquid & add enough hot water to make 2 cups. Dissolve Jello in the hot liquid & chill until slightly thickened. Fold in cranberries & orange rind. Pour into 1-quart mold. Chill until firm. Unmold on bed of greens & serve immediately.
PORK LOIN WITH SAUERKRAUT & APPLES 1 1-lb. bag of refrigerated sauerkraut 2 Granny Smith apples, cored & chopped 1/3 c. brown sugar
1 pork loin roast, 2-21/2 lbs. Sweet rub or salt & pepper
DIRECTIONS: Spread sauerkraut & apple pieces in bottom of a 9x13 glass baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with brown sugar. Season the pork roast with the sweet rub or salt/pepper, & place it on top of the sauerkraut & apples, fat side up. Cover with foil & bake at 350o for 11/2-2 hours or until roast reaches an internal temperature of 160oF. Transfer roast to a cutting board & let rest while spooning sauerkraut-apple mixture to a platter (stir first). Slice the roast & place slices on top of the sauerkraut & apples. Serve immediately. Serves 8.

DROP SHORTBREAD DIRECTIONS: Cream together 2 Tbsp. of icing (powdered) sugar & 1/2 lb. of butter. Add 1/2 c. sifted flour & 1 tsp. cornstarch. Next, add 11/4 c. more flour & mix until blended. Form into small balls & pat down. Bake in 350o oven for 10 minutes. Cool, frost, & decorate with red or green Maraschino cherries cut into circles or half circles to look like wreaths.
PUMPKIN CAKE ROLL 6 eggs 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 11/2 c. flour 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 tsp. nutmeg 11/3 c. pumpkin 2 tsp. lemon juice
1 c. nuts 2 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. ginger 1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese 1 cube margarine 1 lb. box powdered sugar 2 tsp. vanilla
DIRECTIONS: Beat eggs for 5 minutes. Gradually add sugar. Stir in pumpkin & lemon juice. Mix in dry ingredients & spread on two greased & floured cookie sheets with sides. Top with chopped nuts. Bake at 375o for 15 minutes. Turn out on a towel & sprinkle with a bit of powdered sugar. While still warm, roll up towel & cake together in a jelly roll fashion & cool. For filling, beat cream cheese, margarine, powdered sugar, & vanilla until smooth. Unroll cake & spread filling over cake. Roll up again, chill, slice, & serve. This dessert freezes well.
MICROWAVE CARAMEL CORN 1 c. brown sugar 1 stick butter 1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. baking soda 3-4 quarts popped popcorn
DIRECTIONS: Pour popped corn into brown paper grocery bag. Mix all other ingredients except baking soda in large glass (4 cup) measuring cup & microwave until mixture boils hard (about 2 minutes). Remove from microwave & stir in baking soda. Pour over popcorn, close bag, & shake hard. Place bag on side in microwave & cook on high for 11/2 minutes. Remove, shake hard again, & put back in microwave with opposite side down for 1 minute. Pour out onto cookie sheet to cool. Enjoy! COLDWELL BANKER TOMLINSON GROUP

COCOA & COLA CAKE 1 c. soft margarine 2 c. flour 13/4 c. sugar 3 Tbsp. cocoa 1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 c. cola 11/2 c. miniature marshmallows DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients except cola & marshmallows. Blend at low speed for 1 minute, then medium speed for 3 minutes. Add cola & blend well. By hand, fold in marshmallows. Pour into greased & floured 9x13 pan & bake at 350o 40-45 minutes. For the frosting, combine 1/2 c. butter, 3 Tbsp. cocoa, 1/3 c. cola & enough powdered sugar (added a little at a time) to create a smooth, fluffy frosting. Add nuts if desired.
PECAN CARAMEL SQUARES 1 yellow cake mix 1/4 c. butter 4 c. pecan halves 1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar 1 c. additional butter 1/2 c. honey 1/4 c. whipping cream
DIRECTIONS: Crumble 1/4 c. butter into cake mix & press into a cookie sheet. Top with pecans. In medium saucepan, combine brown & white sugars, additional butter, & honey. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil 3 minutes, remove from heat, stir in whipping cream & mix well. Pour over pecans/cake mix & bake 17-22 minutes until bubbly. PECAN SWEETIE PIE 3 eggs 2/3 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 c. butter, melted
1 c. dark corn syrup 1 c. pecans 1 tsp. vanilla
DIRECTIONS: Beat eggs, sugar, & salt. Add syrup, then butter. Pour mixture into a 9" pie crust & bake at 350o for 4050 minutes. Cool & serve.
SUGARED WALNUTS 5 c. walnuts 1 c. water 1 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar 1-2 tsp. cinnamon (optional) 3 Tbsp. vanilla
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 375° and heat nuts on cookie sheet for 15 minutes. Cool & set aside. Place all other ingredients in saucepan & cook to soft boil stage (235° on a candy thermometer). Add nuts & stir to coat. Turn out on parchment paper. Separate nuts. Cool. COLDWELL BANKER TOMLINSON GROUP

CHOCOLATE ECLAIR DESSERT 1 box graham crackers 2 boxes French vanilla instant pudding
9 oz. Cool Whip
DIRECTIONS: Butter the bottom of a 9x13 pan & line with whole graham crackers. Make pudding according to directions & let stand 5 minutes. Mix in Cool Whip & pour half the mixture over the graham crackers. Repeat in layers & top with crackers. CHOCOLATE FROSTING 2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted 3 tsp. butter 2 tsp. light Karo syrup 11/2 c. powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 3 Tbsp. milk Whip together all ingredients (add more milk if needed). Spread over top crackers & refrigerate 2 days before serving. Enjoy.
PRALINE APPLE PIE 21/2 c. peeled & sliced apples 1/3 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. cinnamon Unbaked 9" pie shell
2 Tbsp. honey 1/2 c. packed brown sugar 2 Tbsp. butter 1 egg, beaten 1/2 c. pecans
DIRECTIONS: Combine apples, sugar, & spices. Place in pie shell. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes. Mix honey, brown sugar, & butter in saucepan & bring to a boil. Add nuts & cool slightly. Slowly add egg, whisking constantly. Remove pie from oven & pour honey mixture over the top. Return to 400° oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° & bake for 25-30 minutes until pie is set & apples are soft. Serve warm.
COCOA FUDGE 3 c. sugar 11/2 c. sweetened condensed milk 1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt 2 Tbsp. Karo syrup 1 tsp. vanilla 1 Tbsp. butter DIRECTIONS: Combine all but vanilla & butter in saucepan and cook to medium hard ball stage (240-245o on a candy thermometer). Remove from heat & while mixture is cooling, mix in vanilla & butter. Turn into cake pan & cool. Cut into squares & enjoy. cbboise.com

ctober 2018 marks a full four years of falling inventory, specifically in the number of existing homes for sale in Ada County, when looking at activity by month year-overyear.
This persistent lack of existing home inventory is one of the two primary reasons that the area’s overall median sales price continues to rise compared to last year; the second reason, increasing land, labor, and material costs for new homes. For October 2018, There were 870 existing homes this resulted in a median sales for sale in Ada County in October price of $321,398, up 0.8% from 2018, down 15.0% from October the previous month and up 19.9% 2017, and down 48.8% from from October 2017.
