An Outdoor Enthusiast’s Delight

A quick glance at a map reveals how Prescott earned its reputation as a nature lover’s paradise. Nestled against the sprawling Prescott National Forest to the west and south, surrounded by the beauty of Tonto and Coconino National Forests to the east and boasting easy access to photogenic Watson Lake, this town is an Arizonan treasure.

Back when Prescott was an active hub for prospectors, cowboys and other colorful characters, it was also the capital when Arizona was just a territory. This role as the figurative heart of the Grand Canyon State for a short time is reflected in its literal central location.

In 2017, Time magazine named Prescott #13 on its list of the “Happiest and Healthiest Cities in America.” And if residents ever happen to find a reason to roam past the community’s picturesque avenues or beyond the peace of Watson Lake, humming Phoenix is less than 100 miles south of Prescott, as is Flagstaff to the northeast. Side trips to scenic Sedona or the quaint towns of Jerome and Camp Verde are also just a short drive away.
