heldon Harte was destined for a career in design. He grew up in an iconic Cliff May house in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley, after all. May’s hyper-focus on the indoor-outdoor connection and

Since then, Harte has embraced a deep sense of eclecticism. L.A.-based Bend Goods sets its sights on creating timeless designs that defy tradition.

aurav Nanda, the creative genius behind Bend Goods, has made his mark on the modern furniture scene with his whimsical shapes and sustainable objects. Immersed in mid-century design from an

early age, Nanda’s artistic vision became reality when he opened the doors of his L.A. studio in 2010. The Michigan native is known for his bold color selection and intricate patterns created through his signature application, “bending” — a method of shaping wire by hand and spot welding. The result of this innovative application yields pieces built for style, comfort and utility that stand the test of time.

We recently sat down with the designer and entrepreneur to dig a little deeper into the Bend world and discover the real story behind what makes his goods so, well, good. You left your former life at GM as a vehicle interior model sculptor. What motivated you to trade in cars for furniture and home goods?

The Tongva, Juaneño/Luiseño and Gabrielino people once lived in village settlements along this shore, and the area remained a sleepy village until well into the 20th century, when houses were built along Pacific Coast Highway.
