5.Queen-Mary Commissioned as a luxury liner in 1936, the Queen Mary was later drafted into service as a ferry ship during WWII, carrying thousands of troops into battle. Deemed the “Grey Ghost,” it’s no wonder it’s a hotspot for paranormal activity. Among the ghosts reportedly still cruising the ship are a sailor who died in the ship’s engine room, a “lady in white,” and children who drowned in the ship’s pool. With its stately rows of date palms, the area attracted the attention of Hollywood’s elite and east coast dwellers looking for a winter getaway, including then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower. By the 1950s, golf courses were opened at the Eldorado and Indian Wells country clubs, and Desi Arnaz opened the Indian Wells Hotel in 1957. The first Bob Hope Desert Classic was played at Indian Wells Country Club in 1960, establishing the town’s reputation as a true sporting destination. Today, Indian Wells hosts the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational Golf
