hen speaking about home design, it’s easy to reference the elegant estates and elaborate interiors we’ve all visited or read about in magazines. Being an interior designer, a wife, and a mom, many of my clients have kids. This means lots of issues and solutions, many of which are more practical in nature. If your home is “kid central” yet you dream to live fashionably, follow these helpful tips: First, use durable fabrics. There are now endless choices which are not only family friendly, but pretty and classic, too. Next, be comfortable--everyone wants a soft spot to land upon. Third, an eclectic décor creates options. For one client I mixed her modern art collection with sturdy mid-century furniture pieces. The result was relaxed and fun. Fourth, shop everywhere. Try pieces from West Elm along with vintage Wegner chairs, for example. Skillfully blended, the result can be fantastic. Finally, use COLOR everywhere: painted floors, high gloss lacquer walls, or dramatic floral wallpaper. A remark I love: “Wow, I never would have thought to put these two colors together but it looks amazing.” Forget “the rules.” I’m a firm believer about using fun combos to create depth and character because styles work harmoniously when all are happy! www.LauraAdamsInteriors.com
