In what ways have you translated the signature femininity from your collections to your own home? My home is a reflection of my design aesthetic and sense of style. It is luxurious and classic with a modern twist. There are textural details throughout, which are best seen through my contemporary art collection. My home is done in shades of gray, giving it a serene and tranquil feeling, with pops of color coming from the art that fills our home.

What’s your motto for mixing textures? I love to mix different textures together in both my bridal and ready-to-wear designs and in my home. In my spring collection, laces, silks, jacquards, liquid satin and tulle are all used throughout. My gowns are embellished with delicate beading and lace appliquÊs. In my home, we have wall coverings that mimic ostrich and lizard skin and a mix of modern and vintage furniture in rich velvets and suedes. The contemporary art in my home is vibrant, with a sense of movement.

Which room in your home do you feel most embodies your sense of style? You instantly understand my sense of style when you walk into my foyer. The skylight lets in natural light to make it bright and airy, juxtaposed by a dramatic staircase and grand piano. There is a beautiful, textural Jason Martin piece that adds a pop of turquoise amongst the shades of gray. The foyer also gives you great perspective into all of the other areas of my home.

A guide to enjoying Park City’s charms and indulgences during the premier film festival.

Nature and creativity obey the same laws, to the same end: life.” — Robert Redford Robert Redford was talking about Sundance — Utah’s beloved mountain village and well-preserved secret resting place at the base of the 11,752-foot Mount Timpanogos. The resort was created by the screen legend himself, and named after his famous role in the 1969 film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” With more than 5,000 acres of space, Sundance has long been a dreamscape for Angelenos who want a remote haven. But, really, if you’re heading to the Sundance area this week, you’re probably hoping for more than a resort experience — you’re looking for a bit of Hollywood in your getaway. All you need to do to achieve that is head 30 miles north to Park City, where the majority of Redford’s widely celebrated Sundance Film Festival takes place. Starting Thursday, January 21 through Sunday, January 31, the event will screen some of the most anticipated feature films of the year, as well as screenings of shorts and documentaries, live music performances and plenty of panels. Here are five ways to experience Sundance like a true star.

There is only one restaurant that locals agree you must visit: River House on Main. Foodies rave about this distinguished Park City gem — one of the city’s oldest. Rich in décor (horse paraphernalia, of course) and fantastic food, it never ceases to amaze. Menu items range from Oysters Rockefeller and Wood-Roasted Bone Marrow to Utah Red Trout and Filet Mignon. There is also a vegetarian menu for a nice array of dishes that include MacadamiaEncrusted Tofu and Pasta Primavera. If you’d rather stay loyal to the Sundance vibe, you could try Robert Redford’s Zoom restaurant, also on Main Street. The spot is described as “casually elegant” and features a sophisticated, American-style menu with dishes like the popular Zoom Burger, Truffle Mac ‘n’ Cheese and Wood-Grilled Beef Tenderloin. Insider tip: reservations may be difficult to score during the festival, so plan ahead if possible — or better yet, bring your most connected Hollywood pal!

From locally crafted bronze masterpieces to Rembrandt paintings, art is a Park City pastime. Old Town itself boasts over 30 art galleries, featuring art from local and world-renown photographers, sculptors, painters and fine artisans. If you’re a history buff, you may appreciate a visit to the Park City Museum, which traces the history and heritage of the town’s mining days (including the original territorial jail cells) to its modern times as a ski mecca. And don’t forget to view the Montage Deer Valley’s display of original works by local Utah artists; it will certainly give you a flavor of the culture and heritage of the American West.

If you are lucky enough to have scored a festival pass, you will not be disappointed in the expansive roster of films, events and panels this year. In terms of feature films, “Swiss Army Man” with Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, “Tallulah” with Ellen Page and Allison Janney and director Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” are all worthy of a viewing. On the documentary front, Werner Herzog’s “Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World” is one of the most anticipated movies this year; other must-see documentaries include a pic about famed filmmaker Mike Nichols and “American Epic” from executive producers Robert Redford, T Bone Burnett and Jack White. And finally, two events you may not want to miss: “Dazed and Confused” with live commentary by Richard Linklater and Jason Reitman, and a “Cinema Café” conversation with Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson of “Anomalisa” on January 30.

“Delicious.” You can almost hear Martyn Lawrence Bullard uttering the word — as he is wont to do whenever he encounters beauty — while describing his collection for French glassmaker Daum. Inspired by the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the award-winning, Los Angelesbased British designer lends his masterful sense of color and form to create a seductive line of objets d’art — an apple candleholder and paperweight — as well as a dazzling $88,000 pâte-de-cristal chandelier as hanging sculpture. “The red apple is a symbol of temptation, beauty, love, health, prosperity and one of the greatest cities in the world,” says Bullard. “It’s deliciously irresistible as the famously enticing forbidden fruit it evokes. The Eden Chandelier is a crystal homage to the original sin — the beautiful tree, the tempting red apple and the persuasive serpent.” Daum is known for inventing pâte-de-cristal, the modern refinement of pâte-de-verre, an ancient Egyptian glass casting technique. Founded by Jean Daum in 1878, the crystal company has a history of collaborating with world-renowned artists and designers like Bullard to create art glass and decorative objects. We recently caught up with Bullard to ask him about the artful collection and his next design temptation. Tell us a little bit about collaboration with Daum.

your

I have always been a fan of the beautiful pâte-deverre process that historically Daum has made its own hailing from the ancient Egyptian tradition. As a boy, I saved up to buy a small, Art Nouveau glass Daum vase that I still own, so to be asked to collaborate with the brand on special pieces was very exciting. I had signed with Haviland Limoges to create a tabletop collection, and the director of Daum learned of this and reached out to ask if I would like to collaborate on glass with them. Of course I jumped at the chance! Daum has been associated with “art glass,” and specifically the Art Nouveau period. Have you ever worked with pieces from that era? I have always loved Art Nouveau style. It was such an inspired period as it transitioned from the stiff Victorian styling and made way for the fluid lines of deco and modernism. I often buy beautiful Art Nouveau pieces to add into my interiors, specifically art glass. Those pieces work well even in the most modern settings and add a wildly romantic touch to a room or tablescape.

How did you come up with the idea of forbidden fruit? I wanted to create a chandelier where the light would flow out of the crystal, showing the real beauty of the colored glass and the intricate details of the pâte-de-verre process. I loved the Art Nouveau leaf designs and wanted to incorporate that, but also make something unlike anything else that had ever been in the line. So the idea of forbidden fruit and the Garden of Eden was born: The rare red glass used for apples to decorate the table, glowing from within with the flicker of candle light, and the idea of the tempting apple hanging from a splendid tree of leaves; and the sparkling serpent, hand wrought and gilded bronze wrapping itself from the stem. All very unexpected, beautiful, classic and modern all at once. If it were you, where would you place this forbidden fruit? I envision the Eden Chandelier above an intimate dining table; dimmed so the light adds just enough opalescence to the glass, creating a seductive and tempting ambiance for dining or entertaining. I also love the idea of it hanging over a beautiful bathtub or illuminating an intimate place like the bathroom, which would create a sexy and stunning vibe. What’s your next temptation? I am currently working on a fine jewelry collection with colored stones and diamonds. All of the pieces are unusually unisex: a luxury organic mattress collection for the ultimate rest; a bed sheeting and pillow collection for a French label; and a modern bathroom fixture and accessories line for the country’s leading label. I’m also designing the Four Seasons residences in Los Angeles, and three luxury hotels – in Miami, Istanbul and Santa Barbara. Do you have any plans to collaborate on another collection for Daum? I have had great fun creating a collection for Daum. It has been an honor to be associated with such a label, and to have my designs reside alongside those of great artists like Salvador Dali and Jean Cocteau. This year, I will be adding more pieces to the collection that will be equally as exciting as my Eden Chandelier. It is, of course, top secret at the moment as to what those designs will be.

AS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL CELEBRITY CHEFS, PUCK HAS SPENT THE LAST FOUR DECADES CATERING TO L.A.’S MOST SOPHISTICATED PALATES BY WAY OF HIS BEVERLY HILLS FLAGSHIP, SPAGO, CUT BEVERLY HILLS AND OTHER RESTAURANTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. OUR VIEW: Known for changing the way Americans cook and eat with his mix of formal French techniques and Asian- and California-influenced aesthetics, the Austrian-born Puck began his fine-dining empire in 1982 with Spago Beverly Hills. Today, he has 76 restaurants, 26 of them fine dining, around the world from Singapore to London. He also helped change the culinary culture of cities like Las Vegas, where he was the first star chef to create a contemporary fine-dining restaurant. “He’s like the Steven Spielberg or James Cameron of restaurants,” Chef Ludo Lefebvre once quipped. Puck has the awards to match, too: he earned the James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and was inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame in 2013.

HIS VIEW: “To me, cooking is an evolution,” he says. “I like to create new dishes all the time.” That means adding seasonal creations into the mix, along with his signature dishes like smoked salmon pizza, Peking duck and the Chino chopped vegetable salad. After more than four decades in the business, he’s seen big changes in the food world, too. “The biggest change is that cooking has become a very fine profession. In the old times, nobody knew who the chef was in a restaurant — it was always about the maître d’ or the front man. Now, people go to a restaurant to see and eat what the chef creates. Because of television, we have so many young, really intelligent people going into the food business; whereas years ago, they went into real estate.” Touché. ON THE HORIZON: He just launched an online cooking school, wolfgangpuckcookingschool.com, where novice chefs can fine-tune their skills and access a library of recipes. A monthly subscription also includes meal-planning tools and cooking courses that are added weekly. In summer 2016, he will also open his first-ever restaurant in New York City, bringing his L.A.-based CUT steakhouse concept to the new Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown. “The timing was just right,” he says.

I

opened my practice in 2007, after working with design icon Bruce Gregga. I realized then that it’s only by mixing different styles and materials that bold and honest living spaces are created--the interiors we love and admire for decades. Whether one designs a space with a professional or not, here’s the best course of action to achieve memorable rooms: First, determine the skeleton of the architecture and space. From legendary designer Billy Baldwin: “Get the envelope handled first, then all will fall together perfectly.” Second, spaces grow organically and take time to piece together. It’s a continual relationship with another or yourself to determine the best way for a room to function and then illustrate one’s taste. Personally, I enjoy the challenges new projects create and push the envelope to discover new solutions. Finally, when purchasing furnishings don’t choose items because they are cheaper. Choose pieces which have value. It’s a balance of quality over quantity. With my work, it’s not just about decorating and filling a space, it’s about refining a lifestyle. The key to good design is “attention to detail,” oftentimes an afterthought. Yet in the words of Charles Eames, “The details are not the details. They make the design.”
