Realogy Aids Hurricane Victims In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage ’s parent company, Realog y, launched fundraising drives to suppor t the people and regions affected by the two devastating storms.
The Realogy Disaster Relief Fund has raised over $150,000 for Realogy employees, as well as brokers and agents affiliated with all Realogy brands affected by the hurricanes. The money was raised by Realogy employees, along with a $75,000 company match, to help their storm-battered colleagues pay for emergency-related costs not covered by insurance, including home repairs from f looding, lost possessions and temporar y housing expenses related to evacuations. Meanwhile, the Realogy Charitable Foundation has surpassed its $500,000 fundraising goal for storm victims in Texas and Florida, raising more than $550,000, which has been sent to the American Red Cross. I am grateful for the generosity of everyone who has made contributions to help hurricane victims, including the extended Realogy family of employees, brokers and agents, during this difficult time.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge to date? A: Gardenias have never shipped successfully by air before. We had to ship to ourselves for six months to perfect the process. We were incredibly fortunate in our journey as an experiential luxury startup, primarily because we received phenomenal press starting in our first couple months of business. We identified a spectacular investor and partner from Southern California on our customer list, and were able to commit to the crops we have today, open offices in San Francisco and build a brand we are proud to be a part of. Q: How would you describe High Camp gardenias’ California style? A: Untied chic – raw and soulful – from the heart Q: Recently, my boyfriend sent me a box. I was so impressed with the presentation and how beautiful the blooms arrived. What goes into the shipping process? A: There are many things coming together that we worked for six months to perfect. When I lived in Hawaii, I had 12 varieties of gardenias in my yard, and spent endless hours in my garden working with the flowers. I lived with the flowers daily, and when I returned to California, I searched for a way to replicate that experience. Q: What is the best climate for growing gardenias in California? A: Gardenias grow beautifully in California climates. Coastal or wine country are optimal, in moderate sun. Q: I’m a weekend gardener and have two mature gardenia bushes; they are my biggest challenge, they never bloom and I coddle them the most, and still no blooms. What am I doing wrong? A: It is possible the bushes are old. Gardenia bushes have a lifecycle, and at around two years, they move into peak blooming period; by five, they begin to slow down. Q: Can you describe the feeling you hope your customers have when they receive a box of California-grown High Camp gardenias? A: High Camp touches the recipient on many levels. In creating the product, I am always looking to lift the charming and simple to luxury by giving it importance and intent. It elevates the things that move us on a soulful level, and the combination touches us in a memorable way. Our High Camp customers are incredibly passionate and effusive about the experience. Because the packaging is airtight, when the lid is lifted, the fragrance is spectacular. Taking the flowers from the box and floating them in personal bowls and vases brings the recipient into the experience. The flowers are touched by individual style, expression of self. There is great joy in bringing nature into your surroundings. We hope that those who encounter our flowers enjoy them as deeply as we do.

Considerable attention was paid to creating grounds that feel lush and tropical as you meander through gardens, mature trees and stone pathways leading to the beach. A rich palette of green, highlighted by a brilliant festival of colors from various flora that change with the seasons, provided the canvas for the couple’s coveted sculptures by Rodin, Miró, Giacometti and many others — which Caroline thoughtfully arranged on the property to look as if they were one with their earthly surroundings. The massive undertaking took Caroline less than four months to complete.
“I never showed the property to Sidney again until the day we moved in,” says Caroline. “I’ll never forget his reaction. He was so happy, he moved me to tears. It was the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us.”
Today, the property functions as part retreat and part business center, where Sidney can carry on meetings or host film-related lunches with actors, directors and producers. The Kimmels have hosted many memorable dinner parties over the years in their dining room. Earlier this year, they transformed their living room into a grand event space for 60 people as they celebrated the 20th anniversary of Kimmel Scholars, a program that takes the best and brightest in cancer research and gives them a start in building their labs. Perhaps it was just this kind of party that set Carson on his path of ownership on Point Dume 33 years ago.
Carson’s memory still lives within the angled walls. His koi still swim in the pond to this day. The tennis court bench still bears his namesake. The Kimmels’ deep sense of stewardship and respect for his legacy will endure with the property, long after they have left and the new owners start their next chapter.

M
aintaining and protecting a stellar car collection is an art unto itself. For a Newport Beach spine & neck surgeon, his requirements were relatively simple: 4,000 square feet for a dozen automobiles of a certain caliber. Translation? Vintage Ferraris from the 1950s and ‘60s, plus James Bond’s 1963 Aston Martin DB5 featured in the 1964 classic “Goldfinger.” Builder Rob Glass, principal of Glass Residential Group, was asked to create the racy destination for a consummate car aficionado. Traveling to Nimes, France, to acquire limestone from the Old Court House, and reclaimed granite cobblestone from the streets of Belgium, Glass envisioned an intricate design for the Moorish and Andalusian inspired interior. Incorporating heavy stone interlaced with intricate details, the garage has the appearance of a European museum yet the durability of a fortress. Glass knew exactly how to display the collection as high art, straddling the line between garage and museum. The lower level of the Provence-style home contains a requisite game room that simultaneously functions as a viewing stand via arched windows to frame the superlative collection. The owner’s “car of the moment” is moved to the center of the garage, onto a mechanical turntable, a must have for any auto enthusiast. Glass states, “When it comes to luxury garages, never put the brakes on!”
