PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE A Look at the 2019 Housing Market Forecast The start of a new year can bring new opportunities and a fresh start, and that certainly may be the case for the real estate market in 2019, with U.S. housing markets predicted to begin making a slight shift toward a buyer’s market. It has been some time since we’ve seen a true buyer’s market, with the shortage of inventory and strong demand the past several years often resulting in multiple offers, driving up home prices. But according to the California Association of Realtors®, a combination of high home prices and eroding affordability is expected to cut into housing demand and contribute to a weaker housing market in 2019. And while home prices are predicted to temper this year, interest rates will likely rise, compounding housing affordability issues. The good news is that available listings are growing, and that means buyers will have more homes to choose from and, all in all, we are moving toward a more balanced market favoring both buyers and sellers. C.A.R. predicts that home pricing will remain relatively flat this year, due in part to the anticipated interest rate increases.

increasingly common to see bath customizations that are tailored to a homeowner’s exact desires and tastes. “Wealth has grown tremendously in the last 20 years,” explains Pedro Uranga, North American director for THG Paris, a French manufacturer of bathroom fittings and accessories. “To have a home built exactly to your measure with the finest of materials and finishes, from top to bottom, has become more than a passion project today for high-net-worth individuals — it is a standard requirement.” Uranga would know. THG is known as the “luxury atelier of bathroom fittings.” Mastering the French tradition of fusing one-of-a-kind craftsmanship and artistry with precious materials, THG Paris is an obvious resource for some of the luxury residential sector’s most beautiful, daring (and expensive) bath customizations.
