Four C’s of Diamonds: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat

Cut

The cut of a diamond can be very important for the brideto-be. After all, it is the cut that determines the amount of sparkle your ring will have. There are basically 5 cuts: Ideal Cut: The top 3% of diamond quality that reflects nearly all the light entering the diamond. It is very beautiful and very rare.

Very Good Cut: The top 15% of diamond quality that reflects nearly as much light as the ideal but without the cost.

Good Cut: The top 25% of diamond quality that reflects most of the light entering the diamond Fair Cut: The top 35% of diamond quality that will not reflect as much light and will not be as brilliant as a good cut.

Poor Cut: These diamonds are so deep and narrow or shallow and wide that they lose most of the light and therefore are the cheapest of all cuts.

FL: Flawless diamonds that have no internal or external imperfections.

IF: Internally Flawless and have no internal imperfections.

VVS1/ VVS2: Very, Very Slightly Included diamonds that barely have any imperfections and are of excellent quality.

VS1/VS2: Very Slightly Included diamonds with few imperfections that aren’t typically visible to the eye.

SI1/SI2: Slightly Included diamonds with imperfections that may be visible.

I1: Included diamonds with imperfections that are visible.

I2/I3: The lowest grade that is generally not available in fine jewelry stores.

Carat The carat defines the weight of the diamond. The amount of carats you may want for your diamond may depend on the shape of diamond you want. There are generally 9 famous shapes to choose from: (Round, Princess, Emerald, Asscher, Marquise, Oval, Pear, Heart, and Cushion). There is no set amount of carats that’s best. It all depends on your taste and budget. A smaller ring of 2 carats with a higher clarity and cut may be much more expensive than a 6 carat with low clarity and cut. Determine your budget, diamond shape, cut, color, and clarity to distinguish how many carats you may want in your ring.

Color When referring to the color of a diamond, we are basically determining how white the diamond is. The less color a diamond has, the higher its color grade. The color ranges from D to Z. D: This is the highest color grade and is extremely rare because it is absolutely colorless.

E/F: No traces of color can be detected other than by an expert gemologist. Also rare.

G/H: The color is difficult to detect unless compared directly next to something grade E or higher.

K/L/M: They have noticeable color and would be more affordable than previous grades.

Clarity The clarity of a diamond is measured in the imperfections of the diamond. Most of the imperfections usually are microscopic, therefore the less imperfections the diamond has the higher clarity grade it would have.

Tips on How to Dress a Bride on a Budget

by Eve Thomas, Styling Director at The Outnet 1. The bride’s dress is often one of the biggest expenses when budgeting for a wedding. Rather than opting for a dress from a celebrated wedding designer – which is sure to cost a lot – look for white and ivory styles from ready-to-wear lines from designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Temperley London and Chloé.

2. If you want to wear something original, consider choosing a vintage dress.

Vintage dresses often work out cheaper than traditional bridal dresses and also work as your ‘something old’.

3. Discount sites such as The Outnet are also a great place to look as wedding dress styles don’t date and nobody will know which season they’re from.

4. Be open-minded when it comes to discount sample sales. Although in some cases the dresses may be slightly damaged or in need of cleaning, these are small costs compared to the amount you will spend on a full-price dress. I bought my own wedding dress at a sample sale!

5. When there’s so much to organize, being able to browse and shop online is wonderfully efficient. Use filters to look for specific items or to restrict your search by price, and always remember to narrow your search by size. This will help stop the temptation to buy a dress that is too big, too small or too expensive!

6. Accessories are an area where you can also save money. Your shoes are likely to be hidden underneath your dress, so ensure you invest in a pair that you can wear again and again.

7. While the traditional white lace dress usually springs to mind when the word ‘wedding’ is uttered, more and more people are choosing to channel current trends on their big day. There are plenty of chic alternatives to traditional wedding dresses – why don’t you consider wearing a full-length skirt and top in complementary shades, or a dress in a soft pink tone? These can be great alternatives to the traditional white gown and offer you the chance to really let your personality shine. These dresses often work out far less expensive too.

8. Don’t forget the details! Although intricate headdresses, hairbands and brooches certainly have their place, these touches don’t have to be expensive.

A single fresh flower in your hair can look beautifully romantic and won’t cost the earth.

In February of this year, the red Giant Ricky traveled all the way to Isetan Department Store in Japan, while the bi-color (black and white) Giant Ricky set up shop first on Madison Avenue and then the Ralph Lauren Beverly Hills store.

Irina Shayk Pairs Up with Patrick Dempsey Sacoor Brothers New Spring/Summer 2014 Collection They were fantastic together. They didn’t know each other personally but the truth is that the work relationship fit them like a glove. The girlfriend of Cristiano Ronaldo – the golden boot – was chosen to represent women in the new Sacoor Brothers collection. The selection took place in Los Angeles and the result was extremely positive, beyond all expectations.

Styles: Modeling summer clothes in cold December... Are you used to it?

Irina Shayk: Well, it’s normal. We’re here in LA, shooting this beautiful Spring/Summer campaign. The weather isn’t that great, but you couldn’t ask for more… To be in LA, among the palm trees, on a beautiful beach with a spectacular ocean and amazing comfortable clothes.

S: But, as a Russian, you’re used to very cold weather, right?

IS: Well, I think it’s wrong when people say: “You’re from Russia so you can lie naked in the snow.” I’m a human being, I feel cold like everybody else. But, yes, I grew up in the snow and it used to be minus 35 in my hometown, so I can’t complain. I love LA, I love working here.

S: If you could choose, would you choose summer?

IS: Oh, I love summer. I love summertime. But I love the snow as well. I love skiing. But today we’re shooting the Spring/ Summer campaign and we need a gorgeous backdrop of the ocean and white sand. It’s all about lifestyle, about beauty, beautiful clothes… that’s why we had to come to LA. S: What´s a perfect summer for you?

IS: The perfect way to spend summer… for me is to spend it somewhere very quiet. I would say near the sea – that would be perfect. A peaceful and relaxing summer near the sea.

S: Rio de Janeiro… it’s the theme of this Spring/Summer collection. Have you been there?

IS: No, not yet. But it’s very funny, because a lot of people think I’m from Brazil. My father is Tatar and my mother is Russian, so people say: “You look like you’re from Brazil”, but I’m not. I’m from Russia and I’ve been to Brazil a couple of times. It’s a beautiful country with an amazing culture and good weather. Everything about Brazil is amazing.

S: Are you thinking of going there next summer? Will you be there for the World Cup? IS: You know, with my job, you never know where you’re going to end up. So maybe, you never know.

S: You have just been elected the sexiest Russian woman. How do you feel about it? Having the world at your feet?

IS: Well I don’t wake up in the morning and say “Oh my God, I’m so amazing, I can just lie in bed and eat fries”. I think I’m a person who loves to get better every time. I love to push myself and just get better. The way I am, my professional life, going to the gym. I don’t really consider myself as the most beautiful or the sexiest girl. You know, I’m just a regular girl, who maybe hasn’t got a regular job. I’m a model, but you won’t see me strolling around the city in high heels, dressed to the nines. I love to be laidback. To wear comfortable clothes, no hair done and no makeup. Just very simple. So I consider myself more as a simple girl than anything else.

S: You are an example of success and you’ve worked hard for it. Do you see yourself as a workaholic?

IS: Yes, I am, for sure. I think, it’s because of the way I grew up. I grew up in a very small village in the middle of nowhere. My father passed away when I was fourteen and my mother had to quit her job. She was a pianist. She had to take another two jobs to provide for the family. I see my mother as a strong woman, who needed to work hard. Maybe that’s why I consider myself as a workaholic, certainly. I think success is the result of very hard work and... success doesn’t come easy. You have to work really hard for success. You have to really know what you want. Because once you go out there, people are always going to try to say things like “you can’t do this job, you’re not good enough”... So you have to have a very strong character. You have to really know what you want. And I think this is where success lies. You have to work really hard, so I consider myself to be a hardworking girl.

S: You studied marketing. What would you be if you weren’t a model?

IS: First of all, I finished music school, because my mom was a pianist, so I learned how to play piano and I sang in a choir. Don’t ask me to sing right now, because I’m a really bad singer. (laughs) I play piano, I thought of being a pianist. My favorite subject in school was literature, I love writing stories. I don’t know, maybe a journalist. You never know, but when I finished music school - I was there for seven years - and high school, I decided to study marketing, because I think it’s very popular and very useful. But in actual fact, I’m working in marketing now, as I became a model.

o as the temperature gets warmer, our skin begins to feel dehydrated and flaky.

As much as we try to keep up by using toners, moisturizers, and drinking lots of water, a facial is a must! For our beautiful bride to be, monthly facials are needed to keep your skin looking its best, Rawan Qabazard writes.

I got the chance to try out Kyu Care Center’s facial. As soon as I got there I slipped into my fluffy towel and slippers and proceeded to the facial room where they performed a skin analysis test on my face. After they printed my report (hmm fancy!) they explained to me what type of skin I had and what products I should use. Now, it was time for my facial. I lay down and Alejandra (a.k.a Aliyah) started by cleaning May 89 STYLES 138

my face with a cleanser followed by opening pores over the steamer for 15 minutes. Whilst I was waiting, I got a foot massage! Relaxing, I know. After the steamer went off, Alejandra started the extraction process which is getting rid of blackheads and opening up pimples which will make them disappear faster (PS: never attempt to do that at home!). When all the squeezing was done (I know, gross but beauty is pain after all), she ran an ice-cold instrument all over the surface of my face to close the pores, which felt really refreshing! Quick tip: Alejandra told me to rub an ice-cube all over my face and neck after showers to achieve glowing skin and to avoid breakouts. Then she used a gentle exfoliator from Thalgo which suited my skin type, followed by an algae mask which she kept on for 15 minutes. Alejandra mentioned that it’ll not be a pleasant smell, but the outcome is magical. I was a bit tense for a few minutes, but afterwards she washed it off and applied lotion and a serum on my face. Now after all this I

expected to look in the mirror and see a red blotchy complexion, but seriously... a bit of redness and no blotchiness whatsoever. I felt really refreshed, I thanked her and left.

“That was a great facial” I said to myself.

But hold on, during the next few days I noticed a few things. First, all the pimples and blemishes that I had were gone. Second, when I applied my foundation, my skin was so smooth that by the second and third day, no foundation was needed. I really will take up Alejandra’s advice on having a monthly facial. In the meantime, a basic cleansing routine twice a week is helpful for keeping up the results I got from my facial. By basic, I mean the usual cleansing, exfoliating, and fifteen minute mask; apply a toner, and a serum before bed. For anyone who’s been looking around for a good place for a facial that’s not too harsh on your skin, I would advise you to call for Alejandra at Kyu Care Center.

Quick tip: Alejandra told me to rub an ice-cube all over my face and neck after showers to achieve a glowing skin and to avoid breakouts.

You’ll need soft smooth hands if you’re going to be rocking some bling on your fingers! Do it in a minute; 1 TBSP Olive oil, 1 TBSP Sugar. Rub the mixture on your hands and around your fingers for 30 seconds, then relax and let it sink in your skin for another 30 seconds, then rinse!

Benefits of sugar on your skin; a natural exfoliator which does not clog pores and balances your skin’s oils. Leaves your skin glowing and feeling super smooth!

For your feet, elbows and knees; Mix ½ cup of brown sugar, ½ cup olive oil, ½ teaspoon of vanilla. Jump in the shower and massage on wet skin for a couple of minutes!!

To make a face mask, you’ll need; 2 TBSP non fat powdered milk, 1 TBSP powdered sugar, ¼ TSP cinnamon and mix in a bowl.

Then in a separate bowl combine 1 TBSP honey and 1 TSP milk until blended. Next combine both mixtures until you get a nice paste and apply onto wet skin. Massage in circular motions and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing!

To tighten pores, splash some cold water onto your face.

Soften your lips with a sugary mint scrub!

Grab some jojoba oil or olive oil, superfine sugar, and a hint of peppermint. Blend, and massage onto lips!

How about a romantic body scrub? Mix in 2 cups of superfine sugar with ¾ cup grape seed oil. Then get 1 or 2 roses and gently tear the petals off into small pieces and throw into your mixture. Add a few drops of rosewater and store your scrub in a nice jar or container and store in the fridge for up to a month!

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994) This film centers on Charles (Hugh Grant), and his friends who are all in search of finding a spouse. Armani Caffé Chic Eats with a Touch of Sophistication When we were told that we were going to try out Armani Caffé, how excited were we? Very excited because we’ve heard so many great things about the cafe, but usually it’s always a good idea to try the place out to give an opinion on it, Nouriah Al-Shatti and Rawan Qabazard, reviews.

The café is located right across Emoprio Armani Boutique at The Avenues –Prestige Area. As soon we stepped into the café I could see elements that resembled a cool chic Italian feel, kind of like how one would describe Emporio Armani. We were greeted by the friendly staff that showed us to our table and began to explain the menu to us. Rawan was parched and mentioned that she haven’t had any coffee that day so she decided to go for the Torero which was lemonade with mint and red bull, yumm! I on the other hand always had a thing for refreshing drinks that has an extra kick to it. The waiter recommended I try the Gingerino. Boy, was it good, prickly and sweet just the way I like it. Rawan and I are huge fans of Italian mozzarella so it wasn’t a big surprise when we ordered the Caprese Salad as one of our appetizers and to be a little daring we ordered the Sauteed Polipo, a squid dish that turned out to be very yummy. To our surprise when the dishes were served they arrived covered with a cloche cover – those metal dome like plate covers. By then we were in awe at how delicious the food was, but at the same time it felt light and fresh. We took a break and gazed through the menu, so many options to choose from! From the pasta dishes to the pizzas to the grilled dishes, we certainly took our time choosing our main courses. Rawan comments “ I went for the Costoletta Di Vitello, and it took me longer to pronounce May 89 STYLES 160

it than to write it! This delicious breaded steak was set on a bed of arugula leaves and cherry tomatoes, it was easy to cut and just literally melts in your mouth!”. I went for Tagliata Di Manzo, which was sliced rib eye with asparagus. The meat was so tender and cooked to perfection. We both agreed that we’d definitely order the same dishes next time we visit, and yes, there will be a next time. When we were done with our main courses the waiter asked if we wanted dessert. From how much we have eaten already, we kind of hesitated. However, we gave in and said what the heck, we would be crazy to pass up Italian dessert. Rawan ordered a cup of Te Verde Al Gelsomino (jasmine green tea) and had the Tiramisu Café Armani. Have you heard the phrase “love at first bite?” Well that was what Rawan had experienced at that very moment! She describes “The cream, the scent of the coffee, the tiramisu ice cream on top! It was a spoonful of bliss”. I had the Panna Cotta and a cup of Te Nero Al Foir D’Arangio (an orange flower black tea). The Panna Cotta was delicious , so simple yet it sent my taste buds into a frenzy. The vanilla bean ingredient was so intense and combined with strawberries it just made my day. Overall it was a pleasant experience that we would definitely repeat. I’m sure Rawan can just hear that Tiramisu calling her name again.

Salvatore Ferragamo Opens In AlHamra Luxury Mall Salvatore Ferragamo, one of the world’s most renowned luxury brands, is pleased to announce the opening of a Salvatore Ferragamo boutique in Kuwait City.

Corneliani’s Mantegna-Inspired Rings Come to Kuwait City Corneliani operates in the Middle East with several single-brand stores in the region’s major cities: Dubai, Doha, Amman, Beirut, plus a new store in Kuwait City. This strategic, rapidly developing location is emerging as a key luxury hub, given the country’s wealth and significant numbers of international visitors.

Commenting on IKEA’s history in Kuwait, Mr. Marino Maganto, CEO of SYH Retail said: “For the last 30 years, we have offered our customers a fun day for the whole family, with more than 25 million visitors, and we will continue to welcome them for many years to come. At IKEA we are proud of the long and rich relationship we have with the local community.

Since 1984 to today, we continue to support different social initiatives.

As an important part of our values, sustainability is always considered in everything we do. Two good examples: we recycle all the cartons we use and very soon all the light bulbs we sell will be LED. These lights use 80% less energy than normal light bulbs.”

IKEA refurbished the original showroom to reopen in 1995 and launched an even bigger store in The Avenues in 2007, with a showroom that more than doubled the number of room settings from 20 to 42.

“Over the years IKEA has grown to play an important role inspiring the many people in Kuwait by providing functional, good quality home furnishing solutions,” said Mr. Al Humaidhi, “we continuously work to understand the needs of the Kuwait market to be able to offer solutions that are relevant to our local customers,” he continued.

Accordingly, IKEA has also become a second home for many families in Kuwait, with a restaurant, a bistro and a supervised children’s play area, Smaland. In fact, IKEA Restaurant has served more than 45 million meatballs since the opening in 1984.

The original IKEA Kuwait had the first navigation tower of any IKEA worldwide. Since 1984, IKEA’s iconic catalogue has been distributed in Kuwait.

Al Humaidhi highlighted the importance of the customers and the coworkers in the history of IKEA: “From our launch in 1984 to the launch of our new store in The Avenues, the people of Kuwait have built a special bond with IKEA and many customers have shared with us memories of our first location in Shuwaikh. We have several coworkers who have been proudly working with IKEA for these 30 years and we encourage them to continue with us for many years to come,” Mr. Al Humaidhi concluded.

Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa Unveils New Seafood Restaurant Salt Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa, Kuwait’s idyllic resort, has announced the opening of Salt, its signature seafood lover’s paradise.

The fine dining venue presents a large à la carte menu of international and contemporary cuisine and focuses on fresh fish and seafood. It also offers live lobster and different kinds of fish from its eye-catching fish tank at the entrance of the restaurant which is divided into four sections. Three sections are for live fish while the fourth section is for live lobsters. Served with a selection of vegetables, potatoes and guest’s choice of sauces, the sumptuous seafood dishes are cooked to perfection according to the personal preference of guests.

Open every day except Sundays from 7pm until midnight, guests can also indulge in the Chef’s favourite Seafood Platter of lobster, king crab, mussels, prawns, scallops and marinated salmon for two, while enjoying the marvelous views of the hotel’s gardens.The venue offers indoor seating with a capacity of 70 and a further 25 outdoors. The Lobster Table offers the tastiest lobster set menu on the largest round table in the restaurant. With its comfortable seating artistically surrounded by the colors of the sea, the overall seafood theme and experience is accompanied by a selection of beverages from creative mocktails and fresh juices to coffee specialties and range of high-end teas.
