K

uwaiti designer Bazza AlZouman debuted her first collection at 4 over a three day exclusive showcase. The women’s evening wear collection features an exquisite mix of textures and fabrics in a muted palette – resulting in the ultimate sophistication and femininity. Designed to flatter the female form, Bazza’s designs are to be worn and enjoyed, giving the wearer an ethereal quality. Her designs feature fun and flirty dresses alongside more demure and understated looks, appealing to a broad customer base, for a wide range of occasions.

Styles: How did you approach your latest collection? And what inspired you? Bazza AlZouman: I really wanted a collection that represented me, so I started looking at beautiful things and things I really loved. I was inspired by France and French architecture. I started a mood board and I was drawn to the romantic French feel that embodied very feminine elements. I also did a lot of fabric shopping to figure out what would really fit in with the vision I had and from there I started to picture the designs and could match what I had in mind with what was physically available. I tried to keep it simple by sticking to more tailoring and handwork techniques in subtle ways, while staying true to the French feel that’s not so much over done or over the top.

It is a ‘limited edition’ collection (only a select number of each style is produced), further enhancing their exclusivity – and appeal. Having displayed a talent for creating outfits and an eye for fit during her early childhood, Bazza pursued her fashion ambitions, enrolling at New York’s Parsons School of Design, earning an AAS Degree in Fashion Design (2012). Her multicultural upbringing has influenced her aesthetic – which combines a streamlined, simplified silhouette with distinctive feminine detailing. Having worked with designer Naeem Khan, this cemented her interest to focus on eveningwear, where she can be at her most creative, designing with fluidity and ease of movement in mind.

Sophisticated Femininity

June 90 STYLES 56

Styles: Why did you go in the direction of designing evening wear? Bazza AlZouman: The drama of fashion in evening pieces is so liberating to me, there’s so much more opportunity to express myself as a designer. Also, I don’t have to worry about wearability in the sense of ready-to-to wear. There are also cultural implications, with evening wear you can be as dramatic as you want and showcase your ability and identity as a designer. Maybe one day I do want to go into something that’s more ready-to-wear and more day to day. Right now I want to continue exploring my abilities as a designer in evening wear. Styles: You mentioned that this is your first collection and just looking at your pieces, it’s a really nice debut, how long did you work on it? Bazza AlZouman: I started sketching when I was on a family vacation in Turkey back in November. However, I actually started working on the collection in January of this year. It’s always been in my head and heart, but I had to wait for the right moment where I felt ready to start. That’s kind of why I wanted to wait until after I got my education to start. I’m very supportive of any type of designer whether they have an educational background in design or not. Personally, I really needed to have the tools to execute my vision and that’s how I could make the collection at the level that it is. Looking at the outcome I’m really proud of what I’ve presented.

Styles: What’s the best advice that you’ve received since working the industry? Bazza AlZouman: It’s not a person its architecture. I love going to museums to see art, even store displays move me in a way, right down to the tiniest thing like laser cut paper can be inspiring. For me, it’s all about dimension and texture. It’s kind of so cliché to say but traveling really inspires me as well. What’s funny is that I actually didn’t like to travel when I was younger and I feel like I didn’t appreciate it in the way that I do now. Today, I just find it so interesting, you get so many ideas just observing other cultures, people and environments. The newness of everything forces you to pay attention, so travel is defiantly high up there on the list. Styles: What’s successes to you? Bazza AlZouman: I realized success to me is to see someone wearing one of my pieces and really love it.

Styles: How will this collection appeal to the Kuwaiti woman? Bazza AlZouman: My collection is limited in its pieces and not imitable, because I bought the last of the fabrics that were available in the market that were used to design this collection. That helped for giving an exclusive feel. I tried to add in a sense of uniqueness in the collection because we as Kuwaiti women have so many social events and like to stand out in a one-of-kind piece. I worked on this collection in a sense of what I wanted as a customer and what the market wants. It’s only a matter of time to see if I’m going in the right direction. Styles: What’s your first memory of clothes? Bazza AlZouman: I didn’t really realize that I wanted to be a fashion designer until much later, so my first real memory was when I was around ten and we had just moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I went shopping with mom one day and I gave her something to try on and she said “oh, this looks so cute!” I gave her more options and she ended up buying them all. I think that’s when she also realized that I naturally had this love for clothes, colors and proportions. From then on I would always go shopping with her and would always ask me for my opinion. That’s my very first memory with clothes. However, it really took me a while to realize that this is what I really wanted to do as a career until much later. It started to materialize after I almost went to law school after college. I actually got accepted and had a scholarship. I spent my whole senior college year studying for the exam. All throughout college I was so obsessed with fashion magazines, I could literally identify which piece was for which designer, that’s how much I was into it. Then in my last semester I took a sewing class and made my mother an evening dress, that she actually wore. At that point I just realized how much I loved designing. I differed law school and went to Parsons in my gap year between jobs. My father actually had a conversation with me before my first semester of law school was supposed to start and asked me if I really wanted to do this? I love business law, and business was my major as an undergrad. Fashion in a sense is pretty much a business. Styles: What’s the best advice that you’ve received since working the industry? Bazza AlZouman: While at Parsons I received good advice which was “make mistakes on somebody else’s dollar” so basically what that means is that I’m in New York and I can work for any designer to get experience and then you can go and do it on your own. I did a few months at Naeem Khan and it was an amazing experience. I think that’s why evening wear was my calling. He has so much talent yet worked with a small team. I would be so happy when I would just go into his office and be around all these dresses, it would make me smile no matter what kind of day I was having. June 90 STYLES 57

Modern-Sleek Style Has a New Address Good news, COS recently joined the Marina Mall family! The new store located in the heart of Salmiya will offer a selection of your favorite minimalist-chic designs from luxe dresses to modern sophisticated shirts. Launching with the Spring Summer collection, which is fresh and dynamic and seen in a playful pastel palette, each piece in the collection is carefully tailored using advance techniques offering off-the-runway quality.

Dec 84 STYLES 58

Anxiously waiting for the Spring Summer 2014 collection from COS? So are we. This season you will come to find a mix of elegant ideas made contemporary, such as a strapless dress made from technical double-woven fabric with a lightcatching finish. If light and airy is what you’re looking for then a fitted waist rounded-shoulder top made from lightweight fabric with a subtle ripple texture will instantly have you floating on air. Meanwhile an A-line denim dress with a ribbed cotton neckline will be a simple solution for the perfect wear-andgo outfit.

If you thought 3D was reserved for moviegoers, well you thought wrong. Here, COS allows for third dimension to take form through cuts and fabric. From the pretty pale lavender dress with 3D pleats and hidden pockets, to the tailored white trousers with a 3D side pleat, or this neat A-line coat with inverted pleats on the side and back for easy volume. Fabrics play an important role providing an oomph on extra dimensionality.

Minimalist staples for your closet are not the only thing you will find at COS, if you have not yet investigated their jewelry collection then you’re in for a surprise. Geometric cut-out rings to modern multiwidth stacked rings all in brushed metal. Bracelets too take on asymmetric shapes and a glass orb pendant is seen on a fine metal ‘snake’ chain.

COS is Located at Grand Avenue, The Avenues and Marina Mall

Crazy For Color! For fans of Longchamp’s Le Pliage® Cuir, there’s exciting news this season. Not only does the cult foldable bag come in an array of new-season shades – notably some truly eye-popping brights – but it arrives accompanied by two other must-haves: a hooded blouson and a city-chic sneaker. Crafted from the same exclusive metis leather as Le Pliage® Cuir – so soft, so supple and so lightweight –the hooded blouson is one of the standouts of Longchamp’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. With its fashionably oversize proportions, wide sleeves and functional drawstrings and zipper, it combines the ease of sportswear with the elegance of leather. Not content with sharing the same material as Le Pliage® Cuir, it also shares its famously free spirit: slip it on, and you have instant style; fold it up, and you have the perfecttravel companion. Then, of course, there are the colors. Acid-bright lemon, zesty orange, candy pink and vibrant vermilion take color blocking to a whole new level… especially when you factor in the season’s essential sneakers: Longchamp’s timeless lace-up tennis shoes updated in trendy neons are definitely a step ahead. As for Le Pliage® Cuir itself, the original travel bag, totes, and pouch are now joined by a casual-chic cross-body bag with an extra-long adjustable shoulder strap, which can also be removed to transform it into a clutch. Mix and match? Or total look? Either way, Spring 2014 is crazy for color!

This Summer, Topshop is kicking the season off with a quirky and tonguein-cheek collection from London-based designer Ashish. The collection, the 10th collaboration from both brands, is entitled ‘Beach, Please!’ and is a play on Ashish’s idea of a dream resort entitled ‘Paradise Hotel’, the logo of which has been embellished on a selection of beach towelling pieces including a hoody and shorts. Towels feature slogans such as ‘Service Please’ and ‘Do Not Disturb’ and high cut fluoro swimsuits and bikinis are alluring and stand-out. Tapping into the zeitgeist of the celebrity & selfie culture, a selection of truly unique jersey T-shirts come with a fabric pen feature cheeky statements such as ‘My name is ... My room number is...’. Towels and bathrobes are audaciously ‘nicked’ from hotel rooms and turned into resort-worthy pieces such as wrap dress and a skirt. A set of collector pieces featuring LED lights add a bright and dreamy aesthetic to the collection. Buffalo boots with light-up heels, pool sliders, a transparent rucksack and a clutch, are all brought to life with fluoro lights that flash and stream. And finally, to finish the collection off, a towelling eye mask embellished with the slogan ‘Not Now’. This 10th collaboration in as many years with Ashish reaffirms Topshop’s ongoing support of London design talent, both through the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme and collaborations. Topshop is dedicated to identifying and nurturing both young and established talent.

This collection will be stocked at Topshop The Avenues – 1st Avenue

Spring/Summer 2014 Collection River Island presents a unique and confident collection for SS14 providing a fusion of relaxed daywear and chic nightwear across all trends. Simple staple items are reinvented for the new season whilst subtle colour palettes of pastels and monochromes are injected with bursts of bright colour offering a River Island twist throughout the range.

Sports Mono Sports Mono combines street-style luxe with casual separates to create a minimal, clean and modern collection offering a sports-luxe feel with a smart edge. Sheer paneled T-shirts are worn with perforated leather shorts and chunky boyish sandals for relaxed daytime looks. Blocks of black & white are given life with injections of metallics and bold graphic prints are interspersed in the collection. Finishing touches are added with monochrome sunglasses, gladiator sandals and quilted rucksacks.

Classic Plastic Adding a fun and eccentric twist to simple items, Classic Plastic focuses on textures and techniques, from jacquard and crochet accents to laser detailing and devor fabrics. Midi length pencil skirts are teamed with relaxed embellished sweaters for a contemporary ladylike look. Additional texture is added with ornate clutches, Perspex necklaces and plastic visors. Quirky finishing touches come from 3D appliquĂŠ flowers, iridescent coatings and scatterings of glitter. Sugary sweet pastels are contrasted with pops of bright tones to create a sophisticated but modern feel.

Posh Pastels Posh Pastels combines chic tailoring and fluidity for a romantic feminine vibe. Sheer and lace pieces are layered with contrasting fabrics for an urban edge, with luxurious silks, spongy knits and chiffons featuring throughout. A girly selection of pastel tones in mint green, pale blue and lavender are highlighted alongside a predominately pink colour palette with splashes of iridescent metallic. Cute accessories set off the trend with sherbet blue mini satchels, lemon yellow court shoes and candy adorned jewelry. June 90 STYLES 64

Tribal Grunge Tribal Grunge embraces rock and roll for a fresh approach to festival dressing. A harder, edgier style replaces traditional boho-luxe styles previously shown at River Island. Foil detail boyfriend jeans are worn with boyish sequin polo shirts whilst grungy tees are teamed with gunmetal embellished miniskirts. Oversized snakeskin bags and punkish cut out ankle boots complete the look. Metallics are dark and moody as opposed to glamorous and girly, texture is key and can be found on intricately adorned tops, decorative denim or pony skin accessories.

Print Clash A mash-up of mismatched prints and patterns defines Print Clash. With a rainbow of colors and a nod to carnival, eccentric tropicals lead the way with African, geometric and painterly prints following suit. Black & white stripe tube skirts teamed with multi-colored tribal jackets, solid checked loose legged trousers worn with relaxed graphic T-shirts and oversized floral basketball dresses are key looks for this trend with looks being finished off with printed court shoes, stripe sun hats and hot pink sunglasses.

Metallic Offering high performance chic, a fusion of nighttime glam meets sports-luxe. Metallic reinvents classic pieces, asymmetric slip dresses are given a high-shine coating and for a more daring approach lamĂŠ jumpsuits are teamed with casual bronze parkas and chunky gold jewellery. Key accessories include gold snakeskin across body bags and pewter platform sandals.

True To The Blue The Tommy Hilfiger Group is pleased to announce the launch of the Spring 2014 True to the Blue program, to celebrate the everlasting impact of denim, chambray and indigo and their enduring influence in the brand’s heritage. The True to the Blue Hilfiger Denim program celebrates the roles that denim and chambray have played in American sportswear, and how Tommy Hilfiger has continuously reinvented these materials during his career. Highlighting a selection of iconic vintage pieces from Tommy’s personal archive – such as fringed vests, bell-bottom jeans and acid-dyed shirts – the program explores how Tommy has evolved denim and chambray to give Hilfiger Denim his signature “prep with an edge” twist. The True to the Blue Hilfiger Denim collection is comprised of key pieces from the brand’s Spring 2014 collections for men and women, including jackets, overalls, vests, shorts, shirts and pants. To coincide with the launch of the collection in April 2014, Tommy Hilfiger will call for consumers, bloggers and digital opinion leaders to engage in the True to the Blue conversation online by sharing their own indigo inspirations and memories. The Man in The Mysterious Mask

Styles goes behind the mask and talks to Saudi’s fashion icon, Nahar.

June 90 STYLES 70

Styles: Tell us a little about yourself and how you started working in the fashion industry? Nahar: At first I want to clarify that my real name is Nahar , many people think that I’m using it as a stage name . I started my journey in the fashion industry in 2007. For me, fashion was and it will always be a passion. I must say it was a rough start, at that time there weren’t many resources for fashion , so my knowledge is completely self taught . For that reason I decided to establish the language of fashion in my society and especially for men. I created the persona ‘’The mask’’ to shift the focus away from the face and to draw attention to the clothes. People may deem my persona grandiose and that’s exactly what I aim to dispel.

of the project from a to z. I see myself more of a visual artist through people’s eyes. My character reflects that, in fact most of my work involves me a style adviser, spending time helping designers with their work and creating guidelines regarding how their brand should be created. During photo shoot sessions, I am an art director, a stylist and a model at the same time. It’s thrilling to work behind the scenes even though at times the pressure can be exhausting. Styles: What inspires you? Nahar: The music scene, street fashion and youth culture.

Styles: Why the mask? Is it a fashion statement or for personal protection?

Styles: Who are your favorite designers at the moment?

Nahar: Of course it’s not about personal protection , and I never thought of using the mask to hide myself behind it. I’ve been asked that a lot since I started working in the fashion industry. The mask has created a character inside of me. An important tool for every artist is to have a unique character. The mask puts me in a state of mind especially when I’m working . It could be considered as a fashion statement which I am happy to make, since in fashion, what you wear is what makes a statement.

Nahar: Kris Van Assche, worked for the House of Yves Saint Laurent which is always a good start to deliver a creative label. And Junn J because I think he understands how to deliver the perfect trends that will leave a lasting impression.

Styles: What are people’s reactions towards the mask? Nahar: The majority of people believe that I hide myself behind the mask, others think I’m too ugly and perhaps have a deformed face. I get comments like these all the time and they really make me laugh. However, some people do understand the art of creating a persona and they see me as a cartoon character. Now that, I truly enjoy. Styles: Talk to us about projects you’ve recently worked on. Nahar: I’ve been working with the house of Harvey Nichols for three years now; they were my first opportunity in this field. I’m so thankful and lucky to be the only Saudi male they asked to collaborate with through their campaigns. Together we have worked on numerous campaigns, the latest being the Mini Chic By Naha. During that campaign, I was assigned to be the stylist, art director and the face of the campaign. The results were a huge success

Styles: Which fashion houses never fails to impress you? Nahar: Mr. Karl Lagerfeld because of his capability of keeping Chanel’s identity unique and creative.

“I created the persona ‘’The mask’’ to shift the focus away from the face and to draw attention to the clothes.”

Styles: What makes an Art Director in your field? (is it vision, connections, funds...etc.?) Nahar: I don’t consider myself an art director. However, I enjoyed directing throughout my journey in the fashion industry. I also do fashion and art directing often, since my country lacks individuals in that field. I enjoy taking control June 90 STYLES 71

Styles: What was one of your favorite opportunities as an Art Director? Nahar: It’s not necessary to be an art director to find opportunities in the fashion industry. No matter who you are or what you do the most important thing is to be smart and have confidence. Once you believe in yourself and use your creative mind, several opportunities will start knocking on your door! Styles: Any exciting projects that you are currently working on? Nahar I’m excited to be working on my very own first project , and it will be taking place in Kuwait . So be ready I’m coming to shake Kuwait’s fashion industry . Styles: What would you say are your specialties as an Art Director? Nahar: It’s a mixture of all my qualities . Yesterday I was only a stylist, a style advisor and the face of Harvey Nichols for the Men’s department . Today I’m an art director amd tomorrow I might be a designer! I’m a very ambitious person and I never get enough, I might be a designer someday so who knows . Styles: Do you have a favorite childhood memory that inspires you in your field of work? Nahar When I was a child I used to walk around in my father’s loafers . My parents were a strong source of my inspiration during my childhood although they always were worried about me not playing around with the other children! Another memory was my interest in colors, I used to stare at the people ‘s skin tones whenever we had a guests over at the house.

Spring/Summer 2014 Collection Pomellato was founded in 1967 by Pino Rabolini. The Italian label introduced the prĂŞt-Ă -porter concept into the world of jewelry, which gave the brand a strong and distinctive identity for which it has gained recognition ever since. Pomellato jewelry is crafted by skilled artisans in Italy, using top quality raw materials and gemstones. Every collection by Pomellato interprets the mood of the times, with an aesthetic that never goes out of fashion. For the 2014 collection, the classic Nudo range has been reinterpreted with the addition of pavĂŠ-set diamonds on the band, which highlights the central gemstone brilliantly. The Nudo Petit version is crafted in a delicate size, offering the same iconic feel with a dainty twist. The Capri collection adds lapis lazuli to its vibrant palette, derived from the depths of the ocean. Sabbia and Tango have also been presented in a more refined and polished version this year. Arabesque is, as the name suggests, inspired by Arabic and Indian art. The collection oozes an exotic sensibility in rose gold ramage openwork, framed with gemstones and filigree drops. The Baby range evokes subtle tone-on-tone harmony and a bold color statement with its two gemstones.

Prada: A cosmos of its own composed of heavenly bodies set in a complex orbit. A universe of contradictions and endless elaborations— noble causes and base temptations— where idealism meets vanity, intelligence meets passion, fashion meets fiction. Welcome to the Pradasphere Harrods Knightsbridge, the world’s most famous department store, hosts Prada as an honored guest. A month-long celebration that includes a 40 window displays, a pop-up store, multiple screen displays, an elegant Marchesi café, and Pradasphere: an exhibition that traces the company’s multivalent obsessions—from fashion and accessories to art, architecture, cinema, sport and beyond.

June 90 STYLES 82

The Exhibition Housed on the Fourth Floor of Harrods, Pradasphere is a collection of archival objects arranged to reveal the complex, often intertwined obsessions of Prada. The Prada vision is manifest in everything from fashion and accessories to art, architecture, film, and culture. Pradasphere posits that there are core ideas—beauty, taste, embellishment, gender, vanity, and power—that are repeatedly reworked through those diverse channels. The Prada oeuvre represents both an aesthetic journey and a critique enacted through the products of culture. Yet it is also an unabashed celebration of exquisite craftsmanship, a paean to the rare and the finely wrought, and a wholehearted endorsement of the stylistic iconoclast. The centerpiece of Pradasphere comprises six towering showcases dedicated to the central themes that have distinguished the work of Prada. The displays combine ensembles from multiple collections to demonstrate the recurrent concepts present in the products. In addition, the exhibition includes: heritage items from the Prada archives; shoes and bags from past collections organized by theme; examples of exquisite fabrics and materials; a Prada history wall that links the design collections with all of the extracurricular projects, from Fondazione Prada to Luna Rossa; a screening room presenting short films from directors such as Roman Polanski, Wes Anderson, Ridley Scott, and Yang Fudong; architectural projects from Rem Koolhaas/oma and Herzog & de Meuron; and a library of publications, both physical and digital. A private lounge is adjacent to the exhibition space. The walls and ceiling of the intimate room are wrapped entirely in deep green velvet that matches the Clover Leaf sofas—a revival of Verner Panton’s modern classic reproduced exclusively for Prada—that furnish the space. The contrast created between the black-and-white carpeted floor and the velvet-covered walls adds to the aura of contemporary luxury.

Prada Pop-Up Store The 130m2 Prada pop-up store is on the Ground Floor adjacent to the entrance at the corner of Brompton Road and Hans Crescent. Designed in classic Prada style, the shop features an iconic black-and-white-checkered marble floor, slim polishedsteel and crystal display shelves, striking black marble portals, steel and crystal display counters, and lilac velvet ottomans. The boutique showcases women’s leather goods, accessories, jewelry and eyewear.

Windows Harrods’ windows represent Prada’s multi-faceted identity. The hybrid approach, a quintessential feature of Prada’s design philosophy, is evident in the recurrent themes and motifs combined in each tableau. The windows serve as an index of classic store elements, from marble floors to green ‘sponge’ walls. The windows also reference Prada’s contributions to popular culture, art, architecture, and film, revealing the complexity of the company’s approach to fashion.

Marchesi Café Directly alongside the Pradasphere exhibition, against a backdrop of the London skyline, is the Marchesi café, patisserie, and restaurant. Marchesi is a legendary Milanese patisserie founded in 1824, renowned for its wide range of delicious pastries, chocolates, and Panettone, the traditional Milanese Christmas cake. The original architecture of the balcony room, with its exquisite boiserie and subtle lighting, has been preserved for the temporary café. The wallpaper covering the bar counter features exact replicas of the details and decorations found at the original Marchesi patisserie, and the bar mirrors display images of its early 20th-century splendor. Opposite the bar, a wall with mirrors and crystal-lined alcoves presents a selection of Marchesi products and a display of boxed delicacies. JNBY

JNBY, which stands for Just Naturally Be Yourself is a fashion brand designed for both men, women and kids. Since 1994, it was a designer-based company in China. Now, 10 years later, it has become an international retailer. Li Lin, the Creative Director and Founder, was born in the year 1970 in China and has a degree in Chemistry. She started designing in the year of 1994 when she opened her small shop which used to be a showroom for mechanical belts. Lin started selling collections from Chinese and foreign designs. In 1995, Lin began to sell her own collections and they sold exceptionally well and in that year she opened three other stores. Copies of her designs were all over the black market therefore she opened a small factory to produce her designs, thus JNBY was born. Chinese investors facilitated licensing and franchising opportunities. JNBY combines innovative style and design, inspired by fashion trends, art and industrial design. As one of the first independent brands from China, JNBY has expanded globally whilst increasing a strong retail presence in China, Japan, Canada and Russia. Beyond the boundary of age and the concept of a wardrobe JNBY targets females that aspire creativity through all life aspects. JNBY designs are unique and multifunctional allowing the customer to wear their pieces in several different ways creating added value while offering a high level of quality for a more reasonable price, allowing for a wider range of customers. Sticking to a palette of neutrals, there were two monochromatic teal looks that were exciting within the sea of white, blacks and earthy browns. With the successful growth of JNBY cemented, the brand is currently pursuing both international expansion and internal creative development. Her own interest in production techniques and fabrication will drive the evolution of the brand as a creative lab.

From the Streets of L.A.

Dynamic Dazzlers It’s heating up in Los Angeles and the tourists keep piling in. So if you’re one of the lucky ones to head to Los Angeles this summer, I’ve come up with a crash course for the essential must-sees.

First off for shopping, Rodeo drive is the place to start. Walking around Beverly Hills you might end up spending hours gazing at the numerous celebrities and fashionistas you encounter. Next, head to Robertson where you have to see Kitson, the epitome of L.A. style. A short distance from there is Melrose where you can find the most random and versatile collections. Everything from the super upscale to the cheap and inexpensive will be at your disposal. If you feel like heading to a mall then there are several I should mention. The Grove has become such a popular destination, not only for shopping, but also for dinners and movies. The atmosphere is beautiful and you can enjoy it with the whole family. If you want more of a traditional mall with tons of shops to choose from I would suggest taking a trip down to Orange County to South Coast Plaza. This place has every store you could think of. Alternatively, you could take a 30 mins drive down to the Topanga Mall in the Valley for similar finds.

Now, lets talk hotels. So if you have more traditional taste and want something super upscale in the center of shopping then you should look into the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire, or the Montage Hotel. For something equally impressive but more secluded the Beverly Hills hotel and Bel Air Hotel are my top picks. Those of you who might be coming with friends and want something more trendy try the Mondrian Hotel, the SlS, or the London. The main difference is that the Mondrian is more central on Sunset Blvd and is home to Skybar, which is known for their pool. The SlS has modern but darker rooms whereas the London is modern but brighter, so it all just depends on your taste. Restaurants. This has to be my favorite part! For sushi, check out Nobu Malibu, Katana, Katsuya, or Koi. There are plenty of amazing Italian restaurants but a few of my favorites are Madeo, Giorgio Baldi, Cecconis, Ago and Il Pastaio. For steak lovers you have to go to Mastros, Cut, Boa, Rare, or STK. Chinese has to be Mr.Chow, and WP24 on top of the Ritz Carlton downtown. And for coffee lovers go to Urth Café, Nespresso Café in Beverly Hills, or Intelligentsia. The areas you have to see are Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica and Venice beach, downtown Los Angeles and of course Hollywood! Finally for some sight seeing. You can head to Hollywood Blvd. to see the famous Chinese theater, the wax museum, and the stars. For art lovers, go to the Getty Museum, the Getty Villa, and LACMA. Los Angeles is a great place for kids and we have some of the most amazing theme parks in the world! Don’t forget to take your kids to Disneyland, California Adventure Land, Lego Land, the San Diego Zoo, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and Raging Waters. Hope that was helpful and hope to see you all very soon in the city of Angels!

Mesmerizing Middle East How the Arab World Influenced the Fashion Industry June 90 STYLES 87

Cover Story Oscar de la Renta kaftan collection available at AlOthman Boutique

The Ottoman Empire is where fashion started or we could say it is what influenced todays fashion trends. From its national military clothing to mixing up traditional clothes with different accessories and pieces. As the empire evolved, fashion changed to the better with Middle Eastern clothing being influenced by European and Western tastes with a modern touch. Arab women used to prefer long tunic (hence the kaftan) or robes (or should we say capes nowadays?) and they fastened them with silver or gold or diamond buttons depending on your wealth and status. However, nowadays you don’t see any diamonds even on Chanel ready-to-wear dresses. Now we know where the kaftans came from.

Chanel Cruise 2015 Collection

June 90 STYLES 88

Ten years ago who would have ever thought that fashion in this part of the world would be a huge influence on the industry worldwide. Let’s skip the history and all the previous collections and just recall last month’s Chanel cruise show. Did you see the atmosphere? Arabic coffee, dates, palm trees… wait hold on! How about that petrol can handbag? I’m guessing there’s a lot more history influencing fashion nowadays other than Aladdin’s harem pants. The industry of fashion and clothing in this region represents an evolution and historical aspect of change. There is a mixture of influences that changed what used to be traditional wear to adapting new styles. A quick example would be the Ramadan kaftans we wear today. An Arab designer today will incorporate western trends whilst using the traditional fabrics and colors of the original “dara’a”. Or vise-versa with Oscar de la Renta’s beautiful silk kaftans that can also be worn for the same occasion. Let’s dig into a bit of history to understand where it all started here in this region.

The hijab (veil) is an important aspect to mention as a lot of Arab muslim women wear it. Not only is it worn for religious purposes but nowadays women wear it as a fashionable accessory too. Years ago it was just a simple cotton scarf wrapped around your hair in a certain manner to cover the neck. Nowadays we see everything ranging from Louis Vuitton scarves to Prada turbans! Yes turbans! Although it needs a certain attire and isn’t suitable at all occasions, it is really stylish when worn properly. Now back to the fact that Prada has turbans. How you might ask? Well, a few years ago turbans were just considered as hair accessories, but the designers soon leached on to what is trending in our Arab world and decided to incorporate it into their collections. High end designers like Hermes and Gucci have created fashionable and ready to wear products that not only target their usual costumers but also the Muslim/Arab market since it can be worn as a veil. The modern day Arab woman can differentiate herself from the regular Arab woman in a number of ways. We were brought up studying social studies and the history of the Arab world whilst at the same time studying about World War 1 and the Western way of living. Fashion has never been a main aspect of this world but it has influenced us. Travelling, Internet access, and having access to international media it is no surprise that the new generations have changed the way we perceive fashion in this area. This industry has grown tremendously these couple of years and we know it is going to flourish through the years. Local designers have started educating themselves with what they need to know and how to enter the market, whether it’s for a traditional clothing line or something with a Western twist to it.

Hello Istanbul! Yes the Arab region has its own fashion week and it’s the Mercedes Benz fashion week: Istanbul. Many Arab designers showcased their designs in a similar manner to New York, Milan, Paris, etc. Some of the brands include Ozlem Suer, Lady Faith, Maid in love, and Hakan Akkaya. It has gained a lot of publicity through the years and is becoming more and more successful.

Erol Albayrak

Two royals who are considered role models for Arab women are H.H. Sheikha Mozah of Qatar and Princess Ameerah AlTaweel of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Qatar’s first lady has been featured in many editorials and is always mentioned in the media for being a fashion icon. A British designer had once said, “Not since Jackie O has any first lady had such global resonance in terms of fashion.” And we couldn’t agree more. From her gorgeous Valentino outfits (a brand that has been bought by the royal family itself) to beautiful Diane von Furstenberg kaftans. The way she covers her hair is also one of a kind! Arab girls can’t wait till she makes an appearance to scan her outfit from A to Z and run off to acquire the same outfit. Hmmm, indirect marketing tactic from Valentino? We’ll never know. As for Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, aside from her beauty and sense of style, she runs a production company, Time Entertainment, and a youth charity! Also, she’s a huge women’s rights activist. What better way to demand for women’s rights than in a beautiful custom made Armani suit and a pair of Zanottis? In conclusion, the Arab world has contributed as much to the fashion industry as it has been influenced by it. New Arab designers are thriving and are supported by the industry’s audience. This is a growing industry that is being fed and we cannot wait to see the results! Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Pretty So were you ever at the pool or beach having fun, chilling with our friends and all of a sudden you look in the mirror and you’re like “wtf?” Well, this tends to happen to all of us especially in this extremely hot weather. Putting on a bit of make-up to freshen up your poolside look isn’t a problem unless you go all extreme with smoky eyes, glitter, and lashes… that’s a big no no in our books. There are a few steps you should follow to achieve poolside pretty or beach babe or beauty.

CLARINS Truly Waterproof Mascara in Blue

Mascara is such an important part of your make-up, it’s the least noticeable but makes a huge difference. Use a waterproof one to avoid looking like a panda when getting out of the water. Add a little fun to your pool side look by using tinted mascaras. CLARINS

3 4

Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black

Eye-liner is also easy to get away with, try a color like turquoise or purple, or stick to the basic black but keep it light and again also waterproof.

If you’re the type that just needs to have eye-shadow on, keep it light and sheer. Opt for a golden color or a peachy orange that will blend in with your tan.

June 90 STYLES 98

5 6

The first tip is that any make-up you put on your face should be light and sheer. First start with sunblock before anything else, you don’t want to ruin your skin. A good way to apply it is to mix it with your foundation to get a light protective layer. Another idea would be to use a BB cream which has a high SPF. Always remember to choose waterproof.

Now for the fun part, lipstick and lip gloss! First think of texture. Matte lipsticks will dry out your lips while glosses are sticky. A tinted balm or a hydrating lipstick would be the good way to go. There are a number of brands which offer lipsticks with SPF, go wild with colors to match your bikini!

A blusher is what sets the whole look while being outdoors, but stay away for powdery ones! Go for creamy blushers with velvety texture. Always, always, always opt for waterproof.

Ways To Keep Cool In The Summer Heat

By Yasmin Tavakoli

1

Drink Lots of Water: Try filling a large container with water and ice and add mint leaves, lemon slices, orange slices, or cucumber to make it more refreshing. If you can, try to drink a glass of water every hour to keep hydrated. This will keep you cool and prevent any headaches associated with over exposure to the sun.

2

Mist Yourself: Whether it’s the Evian spray or simply a small spray bottle with a fan, this will keep you cool while you try to tan or while out in the sun.

5 June 90 STYLES 104

3 5 7

Keep Your Neck Cool: This is the first area in our bodies that attracts heat, so staying in the shade, wearing a hat, or carrying a wet towel to place on the back of the neck will keep your body cool.

Take a Cold Bath: Not only is this amazing for the skin, tightening the pores and preventing breakouts, this is a sure fired way to keep your body temperature as low as possible!

Avoid Dark Colors: We always hear that black attracts the sun and in this case most dark colors will absorb the sun’s heat. So try to wear whites, and pastels to reflect the heat.

4 6 8

Use Ice: Rub ice on your wrists, ankles, feet, and behind the ears for 10 seconds to keep you cool for up to an hour.

Wear Loose Fabrics: Loosely woven fabrics like cotton, silk, and linen will keep you cooler than polyester, or rayon. Eat Fruit: Generally speaking, fruit is a great way to keep cool. Try chopping some watermelon and pineapple and freeze them to enjoy while poolside.

9 10 11 4 1 12 13 15 16 17 18 19 Use Mint Products: Try switching to a mint based cleanser or body wash. Mint tends to cool the skin and hydrate more than other products.

Freeze Your Water: Place bottled water in the freezer. When you leave the house grab one. As the ice melts, you will have cold water even while you drive.

Try Spicing Up Your Dishes: When you eat spicy food, you tend to sweat more, which in turn cools you down. Also, spicy food speeds up the metabolism, so you might even be able to shed some weight!

Pay Attention To Your Blinds And Curtains: Try to get aluminized blinds and insulated curtains to attract less heat. Also, shut your curtains and blinds during the day to keep the sun out, and get the most from your AC.

Avoid Caffeine: Caffeine tends to dehydrate the body. If you must drink coffee, try drinking iced coffee to allow for some water to melt in to combat the caffeine.

Make Fun Ice Cubes: Add a mix of berries to water in an ice cube maker to provide fun ways to mix up your drinks. As the ice melts, you will have some iced berries to give flavor to your water or juice blends.

Use a Spray Sunscreen: Avoid getting sunburn by spraying a sunscreen every couple of hours. The spray will also make you feel cooler than the traditional cream sunscreen.

Go Out With Wet Hair: Not only will you feel cooler, you will prevent your hair from getting damaged with a blow dryer. Once your hair is dry, brush it out and place in curlers. Go out in the sun for 20mins and when you take the curlers out, you will have salon perfect hair.

Keep Cool While You Sleep: Try using silk or satin pillowcases and sheets to keep your body temperature low so you can sleep without sweating as much. Buy Fans: Sometimes an air conditioning system just doesn’t do the trick. Try placing extra fans in the bedrooms. These extra fans will provide cooler air and will prevent heat from sneaking up.

Keep Your Babies Cool: Add a fanning system to your baby’s stroller, so he or she can stay cool during the summer heat. Babies are more prone to heat stroke, so this is a great way to prevent your baby from getting sick.

20

Go To The Spa: Spas are generally very cool and a great place to relax. Most spas have water with mixed in fruit, which will keep you hydrated. And if you’re lucky, they will use some cold cucumbers on your eyes, which will cool you down and help keep your eyes moisturized.

If you have dark knees and elbows, try rubbing half a lemon on the areas. It works like magic, as lemon is known to brighten skin with their richness in Vitamin C and citric acid! (Also great for lightening dark spots and age spots on face from all the tanning!). Take your water bottle, throw in some sliced lemons and mint. Refrigerate over night and enjoy! Not only is this refreshing, but lemon water flushes our system and cleanses it fully. It also helps balance our body’s pH level! (Also great for weight loss!) Want whiter teeth? Mix some lemon juice with baking soda and rub on your teeth with a Q-tip. Then scrub your teeth with your toothbrush and rinse! Everyone wants to brighten their hair naturally and healthy for those summer days! Spray your hair with some lemon juice and go out in the sun until your hair dries. Continue doing this gradually if you want to keep going lighter! (Lemon is also great for those who have a dry scalp). Works wonders on nails! If you have yellow nails, or if your nails are dry and brittle from all those gel manicures you’ve been getting, mix lemon juice with olive oil and soak your nails in them.

Power of the Plus 3 Simple Things You Can Do Today to Feel Better Tomorrow Dr. Frank King Outlines Easy Changes That Can Vastly Improve Health, Happiness and Well-Being Dr. King describes three that are easy to make and will have you feeling better quickly. • Drink half your body weight in ounces of spring or well water every day. If you weigh 150 pounds, that’s 75 ounces of water (about 9 cups). “Many of us walk around dehydrated without realizing it and that can have a significant effect on our health and how we feel,” Dr. King says. Dehydrated bodies trap toxins and encourage water retention – a natural defense against the chronic “drought.” A simple test for dehydration: Pinch the skin on the back of your hand and hold for three seconds. When you release, if the ridge from the pinch remains for more than a second, you’re probably dehydrated. • Take at least a few minutes every day to connect with nature. Nature brings perpetual revitalization and ongoing renewal, especially when experienced through multiple senses: the smell of freshly turned earth or evergreens in the woods; the touch of cool stream water on your face or feet; the sight of birds on the wing and budding blooms. “These are not just pleasant little gifts to experience – we need them for restoration, renewal, revival and rehabilitation,” Dr. King says. “The more disconnected we become from the Earth, the more we inhibit our body’s natural ability to heal.” • Take a brisk, 10- to 20-minute walk every day. Walking is the simplest, most natural form of exercise. You might walk a nature trail, walk to the store instead of driving or take your pet for a stroll. “Three brisk 10-minute walks a day are as effective at lowering blood pressure as one 30-minute walk,” Dr. King says, citing an Arizona State University study. “Outdoor walking is preferable to walking on a treadmill or other machine, since the uneven surfaces and changing directions of natural walking will engage more muscles and tendons.” Swing each arm in synchronization with the opposite foot to strengthen your cross-crawl functionality and mind-body balance. he fascination of Jordan is as eternal as its historical roots. With hundreds of beautiful archaeological sites, most of which have strong historical and religious ties for many cultures, Jordan is most certainly worth visiting. Petra is by far the most famous of sites in Jordan. This beautiful ancient site is among the 7 wonders of the world, as is hidden behind a barrier of rocky mountains, carved out of solid rock, and stands over 40 meters high. Make sure to set enough time to explore this ancient city, it might take a full day just to get there, take a look, and get back to Amman. Some people choose to spend a night there so they can truly take their time exploring and won’t feel rushed to leave. Another beautiful piece of history is in Jerash. The ancient ruins, have a full sized hippodrome, and include two amphitheaters. Before leaving Jordan, make sure to see the Citadel in Amman. The Citadel is not only beautiful to see, but reflects the various cultures coming through Jordan since the beginning of modern history. For those interested in diving, Aqaba is considered one of the best diving spots in the world! Most importantly, the Dead Sea is not only for beauty treatments of sea salt and black mud, it is also enriched with oxygen and is probably the safest place in the world to tan due to the UVB solar radiation. The Dead Sea does, however, attract many spa lovers and has many beauty treatments in addition to their thermo mineral springs.

The Akamas Peninsula is an isolated coastline and is great for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Head to Girne, situated below the Kyrenia mountains, to get a glimpse into the beauty of the port and the main trade of the fishermen. Buyuk Han is a beautifully restored shopping destination and is great for families. Have you ever noticed the splendor of the Disney’s Magic Kingdom? Well, it is said to have been inspired by the St. Hilarion castle in Cyprus. For ancient ruins, you must see the Salamis archaeological site, which is a trip all in its own. Next, be sure to take time to see the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, situated in a setting of lush palm trees and just along Larnaka’s white salt lake. Lastly, take a look at the Gazimagusa Ottoman ruins. And before you leave, take a day to relax on the Karpaz Peninsula’s white sandy beaches.

Mubarak AlRumaidhi Burning Rubber One Drift at a Time

Kuwait’s Red Bull Car Park Drift Champion Mubarak AlRumidhi invited a group of individuals for a thrill ride at the Traction Off event that was held at Sirb Circuit earlier this month. When I heard about the event I couldn’t wait to take part in the action-packed event. As soon as I walked into the circuit I could feel my heart pumping from the sounds of tires screeching off the blacktop and the smell of burnt rubber in the air. I couldn’t wait for my turn to get in the car and experience this new approach to driving, and of course with an expert behind the wheel. Once they called my name, I got in the car buckled up and before I knew it the car was sliding across the track, spinning in circles and of course my hair flying everywhere. After it was all over the adrenalin was rushing through me like crazy. I wanted to go out for another spin again and again and again, Nouriah AlShatti writes

On the side lines of the event in between people’s turns to go out for ride, I had the chance to have a little chat with Mubarak on how he got into this awesome activity. He told me that it all started off as a hobby. A few years back there weren’t any racing circuits, so he used to drift in parking lots and such. Then slowly people started getting involved with hosting race competitions in which he volunteered and took part in. After receiving the title champion at for the Red Bull Car Park Drift in 2012, he started to shift his focus on turning his favorite hobby into an actual career. He mentions, “It’s not as easy as it looks, there’s a long way to go and Kuwait has so much opportunity to grow with regards to motorsports.” Next thing on my mind was how did this hobby start and he explained “I learned to drive a manual when I was just seven years old. Then when I was around nine, while I spent my weekends at the chalet, I would tell my family that I was going to pull up the jet skis out from the sea using the trailer. Little did they know that I used to take out the 4x4 trailer after bringing up the jet skis out for a spin (literally!), in the open lot in front of the chalet, and just go crazy with the car.” Man. This immediately had me thinking what the heck was I doing at the age of nine, probably just playing with my silly dolls. He also talked about always wanting to become a race driver, “ I remember when I was fourteen I told my dad that I’m not going to school and that I wanted to go to a driving school instead. Naturally, he refused because education had to come first. Growing up and looking around me, there wasn’t anything really happening in the region towards this sport. Motorsports in general, we still don’t have the understanding of it in Kuwait yet. What I’m doing now is showing everyone that If I can make it then somebody else can do it as well. And providing such an awareness like the Traction Off event, I believe it could happen.” Said Mubarak. He explained that after graduating he started working in a bank for a few years before deciding to change his lifestyle and actually going for a career that he’s June 90 STYLES 118

actually passionate about. He told me, doing just that was a challenge all in itself. Especially building a professional image for him as opposed of just doing it out of fun. Since drifting is a risky sport, being professional about it makes all the difference in the world. He told me the difference between a professional driver and a driver that’s just talented, “It’s all about the way a person lives their life by principles. A professional driver wouldn’t be doing anything crazy on the streets, because the person knows where he stands. But when it comes to someone just doing it for recreational purposes where anyone can join in drift then leave, then that just indicates no real commitment to the sport. Evidently they won’t be professional in what they do.” Explained Mubarak. Now ladies don’t think I forgot to ask about where you stand when it comes to getting involved with motorsports here in Kuwait. Mubarak mentions since it’s such a male oriented environment we don’t get a lot of women involved in this sort of activity. However, that’s all in the past. Mubarak gave me an example on Road Rush. “I was the race director for the Road Rush event that was held at Sirb Circuit last year. The amount of women that participated was unexpected. We had eleven teams with each team consisting of five members to take part in an endurance race that lasts for two hour, in a complete female environment.” Now that’s my kind of event! Ladies, if you’re interested, then watch this space because Mubarak already has plans for another female oriented event to take place this winter. All in all the Traction Off event was exhilarating and I got to learn a few things about drifting. To describe Mubarak AlRumaidhi in a few words I would say he’s a passionate, dedicated Kuwaiti guy.

The Grand Prix de Monaco Historique brings together drivers and devotees of historical cars for a competition driven on racing cars. Chopard has been serving as sponsor and official timekeeper since 2002, a natural alliance for a brand of passionate enthusiasts. From May 9th to 11th 2014, the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique will be rattling the windows of Monte Carlo. This competition for classic racing cars is the most eclectic and prestigious of them all. Held every two years along the exact same route as the Formula 1 Grand Prix, it brings together 50 years of automobile history which converge on the principality for speed trials in real conditions. Drivers do battle at the wheel of collector’s cars divided into seven categories. Since 2002, Chopard has been associated with this event as both sponsor and official timekeeper. Chopard is closely associated with the world of classic racing and united with the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco by a passion for fine mechanics, precision and rigorous discipline. He adds “This passion was passed on to me by my father, who is a classic car enthusiast. In 1987, I went to Italy to discover the Mille Miglia. I was impressed and I realised the tremendous opportunity represented by an association between classic racing and Chopard watches. For each edition of the Grand Prix since 2002, Chopard has created a limited-edition watch. Grand Opening of Le Silla Boutique at AlHamra Luxury Mall The opening of the new Le Silla boutique at AlHamra Luxury celebrated the launch of the new spring summer 2014 collection. The cosmopolitan woman is the target of the new collection. She is a global consumer who is not defined by where she lives and has a taste for sporty wear that is comfortable and functional but also chic and very dressy. She uses a mix of urban styles that bring together the ingredients of American and Asian street wear. The contemporary look of the sandals, with their cut-out or clean-cut machining, combines with the punk character of the pyramid of metal studs or the romance of the embroidery with perforations and leather in transparency. Absolute sobriety, however, in the color palette with classic black and white, metallic gold and silver and an authoritative and austere titanium. The dictates of high quality craftsmanship and natural materials derive from a healthy lifestyle, with the imprint of an informal approach to existence. This is a new casual Italian style which is expressed in cowboy boots, espadrilles and campesina footwear with rope, cork and raffia as salient notes. They are the transseasonal accessories that should never be missed in a woman’s wardrobe with timeless and light colours such as blush and sand. Le Silla elegance is the pointed decolletè. With the stiletto heel it helps make the look seductive but with a sophisticated and super fine touch. The leathers are very soft, as refined as python, and semi glossy. The combination with net, plexi or patchwork provides an example of couturier skill. The stiletto heels are ultra feminine and can be as high as ten centimeters or something much more moderate for those who fear heights. At each height a glamorous and fashionista tone is guaranteed thanks to the bright gold and pink gold and the emerald and cobalt colors. Precious and meticulous in the tiniest details, the shoes are decorated as though they were jewels. They are covered with gems, enriched with metal accessories even with modern concept or they have inlaid heels; some even simulate butterfly wings to become a genuine sculpture. For women who dare, who are not afraid of passionate colors, such as turquoise, coral and lilac, or the lurex effect of laminated or varnished leathers. The shoes become the items that determine the look. Afro-Hispanic is the theme chosen to provide the scene with exotic escapism. The intent is to surprise by using extravagant and unusual patterns. The soft gait of the flat sandals with their ethnic imprint combines with the ostentatious ease of the clogs or with the alluring messages of animal or reptile prints. The bright, tropical colors such as zest, Tahiti, orange, lilac and turquoise add a twist of fun for showing off during socialite moments. June 90 STYLES 128

The sculptor Alfredo Llorens demonstrated by hand how a Lladró creation is born directly from clay. It was a fantastic attraction for lovers of the creations by the Spanish art porcelain brand and a unique experience for all to see how an amazing Lladró work of art comes to life. From the time the brand was founded 60 years ago, all the pieces continue to be made by hand at the unique factory of Lladró located in Valencia (Spain). Alfredo Llorens joined the brand’s team of highly skilled sculptors in 1997 and this will be his maiden tour to the Middle East. Among all the works he has created for Lladró, Alfredo feels a special connection with pieces based on Oriental themes, and he is fascinated by the traditional aesthetic of East cultures. When recreating works depicting these themes, the sculptor always undertakes a meticulous prior process of investigation of texts and illustrations, in order to be as faithful as possible to the original source of inspiration. Alfredo says, “The Orient has always exerted a fascination over artists all over the world and this opportunity to show Lladró’s art of modeling in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait is for me a mutually rewarding experience”. Alfredo Llorens is the author of some of the Lladró creations featuring the beautiful anatomy of the horse, a creature very intimately connected to the brand’s work. In addition to “A true friend” and “Alexander Nevsky”, he has also created for the brand other emblematic Lladró pieces portraying horses like A regal steed, the Movement collection and the composition Galloping herd. As well as sculptures recreating other themes like the spectacular High Porcelain sculpture Bridal Carriage or the Japanese pieces Hina Dolls and Japanese Noblemen, the appealing composition Night approaches or the colorful Cherub on a peacock. Founded in 1953, Lladró is a worldwide company exporting its porcelain figurines to over 120 countries. Around 1,000 people work every day at the brand’s headquarters in Valencia (Spain), the place where all Lladró works are born. From the initial sketches to the final firing at high temperatures, each step in the process is carried out by artists and artisans working under the attentive eyes of the Lladró family. The results are pieces of great artistic and technical perfection that tell stories in a language all of their own. .
