At a dinner party and got some oil on your beautiful cashmere sweater? Don’t panic! Just dab the spot with a bit of baby powder and let the fabric absorb the oil and as soon as you get home, throw it in the washer! Et voila, clean sweater. Last Month’s Issue Roland Mouret

We’ve all described people or items as being “glamorous” but did we ever really stop and think about the actual word we’re using? Glamour was originally a word used to describe a spell that was cast on someone to make them see something more beautiful. Over the years, the meaning changed and nowadays, we use this term to describe something to make it appear more luxurious or elegant to another person. The word glamour makes an impression, and when someone is glamorous they sure do leave and impression!

MORE St yles from Puma Launches Innovative New Running App

Beyoncé shone on stage in costumes created by Dsquared² as part of her worldwide Mrs. Carter tour. The songstress wears high-waisted white shorts and a trim tailored jacket skimming her hips, both embroidered with swirling clusters of gold-hued Swarovski crystals, sequins and metallic pearls, emphasizing her perfect curves.

Qout Market Puma launched PUMATRAC, a unique running application for the iPhone. Incorporating a user-friendly design with pre-loaded Tictrac technology, PUMATRAC analyses how external conditions affect your running performance. By providing these unique insights into running behavior, the app is designed to motivate athletes to get out the door and discover ways to get the most out of a workout while having fun along the way. PUMATRAC requires little to no input of data in order to receive these insights, a differentiation factor from other apps in the market. Instead, PUMATRAC predominantly uses data available based on specific environmental factors such as: moon phase, weather, location, altitude, music playlist, time of the day, day of week, season and social media activity.

It’s time to indulge in locally grown produce! And Qout Market – coorganized by PLTQ8 and Oven Experiments - has paved the way for you to experience the ultimate farmers market experience right here in our very own town. Being the first and largest of its kind in Kuwait, Qout Market will freshen up your Saturdays with over 14 street food concepts featuring local culinary superstars ranging from oven fired pizzas, tacos, Greek specialties, hand crafted coffee to oven-fresh bread. In addition, there over 80 stalls offering a selection of fresh local produce and flowers, food items like fresh bread, cheese, honey, jams, pickles and specialty food items like paleo and gluten-free. Held on every first Saturday of the month until April from 10am - 7pm at the Array Center rooftop car park in Kuwait City.

Super Kawaii Konnichiwa! Yes that’s Japanese for hello. Japan has brought so much to the fashion industry and now the fashion industry is using the Japanese culture as inspiration for their designs. Dolce and Gabbana’s cherry blossom print silk organza gown is a piece no one is ignoring on the runway! So delicate and oh so beautiful. Another dress we adore is the Kenzo Jacquard minidress, but then again it is Kenzo. Get inspired to work in this trend into your everyday outfits.

California Roll

What’s our favorite dish this season? Why the California roll of course! A perfect mix of seaweed, rice, crabsticks, avocados, and tobiko. Hungry for some fashion? A Bright orange sleeveless Joseph top is definitely on the top of our wish list. Accessory love sick? A Lagos Caviarball bracelet in orange will automatically add color to your outfit. We also love Miss Selfridge’s color block dress, the colors are not too outrageous but you will stand out in it. Getting a bit sunny? Put on a pair of Ray-Ban aviators and with you instantly upgraded your look.

Is it time for your yearly cruise? Well it’s time for us and the fashion world! It’s time to “pull our sails up.” What better way to welcome a bit of sunshine than with a bit of stripes. A Bit of Carolina Herrera and a bit of Chanel. Steer away from mundane colors and go for the bright reds and blues. Got a tea party? A Prabal Gurung contrast shirt dress would look very classy. Not into dresses? Then go for a pair of Stella McCartney wide leg striped pants with a plain white tee. Play around with the colors and stripes to achieve a look you’re comfortable with.

Denim-mite This is one trend that isn’t dying anytime soon! What can we say, we love our denim. Designers like Balmain and Jason Wu continue to use denim in different outfits and accessories. For example, we do love the new Balmain quilted denim boots with a hint of gold. Also, the MiuMiu embellished cropped jacket is a piece worth investing in as it can be worn with anything. Last but not least our dearest Chanel has a vintage Vanity bag in… yes DENIM again. Work it into your outfit, it doesn’t have to be the pants, it can be anything.

Bubble Gum This trend is good enough to eat! Pink is a hot color on the runway this season and we’re loving it on us. The Josh Goot bubble-gum pink skirt looks adorable with a plain white tee and a pair of nude heels. Not into the whole pink look? Accessorize with it! Nina Ricci platform pumps in pink would look gorgeous with any color. Or maybe stack your arm with cute See By Chloe signature bangles. You can never go wrong with pink!

Or your beautiful Peter Pilotto with a plain white tee and booties for an edgier look. For a cold windy night, wear your Alice and Olivia leather skirt with a fur vest and black tights. Our personal favorite is the Giambattista Valli Floral print, when paired with sky high heels and a nude lip! Opting for something with fewer prints? 2014 Fashion Resolutions Every year after Christmas we take out our notepad and pen and begin to jot down ideas for our New Year resolutions. Ever got back to that list and checked them off? If you’re anything like us you haven’t. This year we’re making it easier. We’re telling YOU what you should be doing to improve yourself (fashion-wise). Enjoy ticking them off!

1

Do not throw your hard-earned money away on things you don’t need and will probably throw out while cleaning your closet (See point 5). Save your money and invest in classic pieces that will last you years.

CARVEN Flared Black Dress [Carven Boutique]

2

Get inspiration from social media, and we’re not talking about those prank youtube videos. Go on Pinterest and Instagram where everything is visual. Get ideas and come up with unique looks for yourself.

CHANEL Classic Flap Bag [Chanel Boutique]

3

BURBERRY PRORSUM Cotton-Twill Trench Coat [Burberry Prorsum Boutique]

Wear more color! Didn’t you hear that pink is the new black? Enough with the boring colors have fun with colors but don’t go overboard.

OSTWALD HELGASON Structured Double Faced Silk Blend Jacquared Skirt [brownsfashion.com]

SEPHORA Cleansing Gel & Exfoliating Brush [Sephora Stores]

MULBERRY Bayswater Soft Grainy Leather Handbag [Mulberry Boutique] SEPHORA Softening Facial Mist [Sephora Stores]

4

Don’t neglect your skincare regime, wash your face twice daily with a suitable cleanser. Exfoliate and put on a face mask once a week to keep your skin as fresh as possible. Make a weekly mani-pedi appointment and don’t skip on your hair appointments.

5

Get organized and clean out your closet monthly. You never know what you might find hidden at the back of your closet for you to wear. Don’t mix your fall wardrobe with your spring summer.

NARS Lipstick in Schiap [liberty.co.uk]

ERDEM Cat Eye Leopard Print Acetate Sunglasses [net-a-porter.com]

8

Make an effort to dress up every day. You never know who you might see or meet! As Coco Chanel said

7

Take risks when it comes to clothes and make-up, being conservative with clothing and make-up is so 2013! Try new lipsticks or wing that eye-liner a bit more. Ditch those granny panties for some gorgeous lace Victoria’s Secrets to make you feel sexy.

“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”.

6

Book a massage at least once a month, it’ll improve your circulation and at the same time will help you relax and de-stress.

GIVENCHY Multi-Color Crystal Necklace [Givenchy Boutique]

9

Accessorize more. You can wear different outfits multiple times and still make it unique. Load up your drawers with chunky bracelets and statement necklaces. Love for prints? Get scarves that will make your outfit appear more chic.

Cruise Collection 2014 The iconic image of the effortlessly chic French woman pervades Louis Vuitton’s 2014 Cruise Collection. Forever cool, always carefree, at times couldn’t-care-less, she values style over fashion – and her own style is simply the expression of how she feels and who she is. If she wants to wear a man’s coat over a floaty summer dress, then that’s exactly what she’ll do – indeed, Louis Vuitton pushes the idea further, drawing inspiration from the lining of a classic overcoat to create a fluid wrap in double-face cashmere, which she ties nonchalantly over a crepe dress with an artfully faded floral print. The men’s wardrobe provides rich pickings for a woman who loves to confound expectations, as when she shrugs on a white satin blazer over a simple chambray sundress, finishing her look with the season’s chunky clogs. A signature Louis Vuitton tweed is combined with leather and cut into a boyish trouser suit. She slips her bare feet into a pair of flat loafers and – voilà! – she’s good to go.

Cruise 2014 Saint Laurent’s Cruise 2014 collection shows a lot of black. Haven’t you heard? It’s “all black everything” this season and the house of Laurent want us to take over this trend! From gorgeously cut dresses to leather pants that scream out “ride or die”! This collection defies the rules of the Cruise collection but we love it. Wear any piece up or down and you’ll still look elegantly chic. After all, it is Saint Laurent.

Saint Laurent is avsilable at 360 Mall and AlHamra Mall

Resort 2014 Prism Prints Carolina Herrera’s Resort 2014 collection is all about prints. A signature of the House’s prints, here are in a range of motifs that creates a spirit of lightness and ease with a bit of fun and whimsy. The print inspiration starts with a refined floral design and is abstracted in bold shapes and patterns paired with geometric stripes in the colors of the season; poppy red, carnation pink, violet, honeysuckle and ultramarine. The silhouettes are soft and fluid, embodying a relaxed yet refined attitude – highlighted by palazzo pants in silk twill, crepe de chine and for evening, long handkerchief hem skirts in tissue organza. Resort 2014 Collection Prints, pants, and structure. A bit of leather, some playful prints, and color blocking too. This all describes Osman’s 2014 Resort collection. We love how we can transform the outfits from “work” to “dinner” easily! Pair one of the striped pants with a plain printed tee, or maybe just wear the leather dress, comfortable and stylish at the same time. One of our favorite pieces is the white-on-white outfit, with a red lipstick you’d be ready to conquer.

Resort 2014 Collection the spring pre-collection finds its energy in contrasting elements. Riccardo Tisci creates silhouettes merging a modern-day Holly Hobbie layered rag doll’s look, a-line shapes and sleek masculinity. Suits and trenches play with the feminine and the masculine. In stretch silk cady, macramÊ lace, waxed cotton or duchess satin, they blur both worlds. Elongated tailoring features relaxed tuxedo pants. Feminine looks reveal a-line shapes with full skirts, wide pajama pants or ample Bermuda shorts. Pencil skirts show elaborate constructions from draped ruffled fronts to graphic backs. Archive corsets are sometimes cinched with a-line zipped corset-belt-parka combos. Back to the roots, monochrome looks come in white, black, beige, khaki and navy. They alternate with printed ones featuring placed or all-over roses, flower camouflage and virgin mary and child. Dry dense cotton fabrics such as gabardine, drill, poplin, piquÊ, twill and denim give the collection a masculine tension whilst silk jersey, chiffon, crepe de chine and light taffetas play with fluidity. Handmade necklaces, earrings and bracelets offer a new take on classical jewelry. These parures mix mother of pearl, onyx, brown obsidian, vintage-looking burnt or colored crystal, ebony and rosewood. A new version of the obsedia bag comes in flower camouflage printed nappa, burgundy lambskin or crystal-studded ayers snake. Givenchy is available at 360 Mall

the PIECE

This month our piece is definitely an extraordinary one. Whether you are a professional photographer or not, you will love this one. The 24 Karat Gold Nikon FA Camera is one of 2000 in the world. It was produced to celebrate the FA winning an award from a magazine. It is a copy of the actual FA SLR but it’s metal parts are gold-plated in 24-karat gold. Hmmm... would it harm the camera if we melt it? Just kidding. The whole camera is wrapped in lizard skin, and the lens have a gold ring on its body. No really, can we melt it? The price range of this product is from $2,000-$12,000.

The Face of Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet Collection Following the successful launch of Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet in February 2013, the New York designer has returned to create a second exclusive collection comprised of 20 ready-to-wear styles for the most fashionable fashion outlet. The accompanying campaign features street style star, entrepreneur and founder of Russian fashion news website Buro247, Miroslava Duma. Based in Moscow, Duma is photographed and recognized worldwide for her impeccable sense of style. She is known for choosing pieces that flatter her petite frame and reflect her sparkling personality, making her the perfect embodiment of both the Oscar de la Renta and The Outnet brands. The second Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet collection includes an array of party dresses, skirts and embellished tops perfect for the holiday season. Each piece references a classic silhouette, reinvented in luxe fabrics such as jewel-tone silk, rich brocade and glistening tweed. The range also includes 12 resort pieces, a first for the online retailer. With bright ikat prints, polka dots and stripes, highlights of the range include a stretch-cotton dress with a flounced hem and a statement floor-length kaftan.

“The collection has an easy, carefree glamour that is incredibly appealing and perfect for The Outnet obsessed. Every woman I know will want to wear these pieces.” – Erika Bearman, @oscarprgirl Styles: How would you describe Oscar de la Renta’s designs? Miroslava Dum: Oscar de la Renta’s style is very classic, very uptown – it makes you feel confident, chic and elegant. I love the Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet collection; it’s beautiful silk dresses and feminine silhouettes are elegant and sophisticated. Jan 85 STYLES 60

S: Favorite pieces from the exclusive collection? MD: The Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet collection is very unique and beautiful. In the exclusive collection, you can find pieces for every occasion. The bright, floral silk dresses are perfect for evenings, cocktails or an important event.

S: How would you wear/style the pieces? MD: I think you can style anything to make it more original and funky, to make people look at you and think ‘Oh! I like the way she did that. However, the Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet pieces are so strong, they don’t need anything else. S: How do you dress differently for different cities? MD: In Russia, you just need to warm up and not think about anything! London is more about ‘hipster’ style, while Paris is very classic, chic, elegant and sophisticated. New York is very cool and young, and I love to wear American designers while I’m there, such as Alexander Wang and Jason Wu. I also adore the uptown style of Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren.

S: What is your “street style strategy”? MD: I’m not a model and not everything looks good on me. When I go to shows, I wear something that I’m comfortable and confident in – something cool that I love and styled myself. S: How would you describe your relationship with the Oscar de la Renta brand?

OSCAR DE LA RENTA FOR THE OUTNE Crinkled Silk-Chiffon Blouse

MD: I have a close relationship with the Oscar de la Renta brand. I respect it a lot and it symbolizes the great style of American first ladies such as Nancy Reagan and Jacqueline Kennedy. S: What is it like being on the other side of the camera? MD: I’m used to being on the other side of the camera, because I started as an editor at Harper’s Bazaar about 8 years ago. To be in front of the camera is something new for me, but I’m getting used to it.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA FOR THE OUTNET Houndstooth Tweed and Chiffon Dress

S: What are you looking forward to about the party season? MD: In Russia, the biggest celebration of the year is New Year’s Eve, when we celebrate by having a big dinner gathering with the whole family. The president gives a speech, saying something very touching and everyone cries. It’s a very touching moment and everyone remembers what happened this year, good and bad, and then they dream about something really good for next year. And then, about 12 seconds before the New Year, we make a wish!

Kenzo Takada is a Japanese fashion designer who was born on the 27th of February 1939. He is best known for his label Kenzo. At the age of 18, he attended the University of Kobe to study literature because that was what his parents wished for him. Eventually, he got bored and couldn’t take it anymore. He quit and joined Tokyo’s Bunka Fashion College and he was the first male to be admitted there. In 1964, he moved to Paris and started working for many department stores. We all love Kenzo’s bright colors and patterns but did you know why he started out that way? At that time he could only afford to buy his fabrics from flea stores so he used to mix and combine many fabrics and colors to make one article of clothing. In 1970, he opened his first boutique called Jungle Jap; it hosted his first show ever. His first men’s collection launched in 1983 and in 1988 he came out with the Kenzo’s first perfume line. In 1993, his label was bought by LVMH which is the Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton company. In the year of 1993, Kenzo decided to leave fashion and do something else with his life. Patrick Guedj was then named creative director. In 2003, Italian designer Antonio Marras joined the brand and by the end of 2008 he was named creative director. In 2011, the two designers behind “Opening Ceremony”, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, took over the creative direction of Kenzo. Leon and Lim were both born and bred in California. They opened their first boutique in New York (Opening Ceremony) in the year 2002, and then they opened in Los Angeles and Tokyo. Their touch on the French fashion house Kenzo is certainly showing and their prints are getting wilder than ever. People praise their designs each season and anxiously wait for the next. Spring/Summer 2014 The two designers took the world by surprise with their tiger sweatshirts and eye prints and they’re not stopping anytime soon. With this collection they tried sending a message to people about overfishing and how it is affecting the extinction of some seafood. They designed a slogan tee that was part of the collection that reads “No fish, no nothing” and some of the proceeds went to the Blue Marine Foundation. As for the clothes, melting fish prints were all over the runway replacing the Kenzo Eye. From scribbled blue waves to the clothes turning to red by the end of the show, they tried showing what the effects of overfishing were in a way.

The Return by Karl Lagerfeld

In “The Return”, Karl Lagerfeld retraces the steps Chanel’s formidable founder took to reopen the doors of her eponymous fashion house in 1954. Sitting in the storied surrounds of her apartment, with cigarette in hand, Gabrielle Chanel began by placing a call to then Harper’s Bazaar editor, Carmel Snow, announcing her intentions. Fifteen years had passed since Gabrielle Chanel last wielded her signature scissors and measuring tape and she longed to return to couture. She was disappointed and disillusioned by the output of the fashion houses that had sprung up during her hiatus from fashion. Having liberated women and their wardrobes decades earlier, she could not understand this return to corsetry and what she considered to be unnecessary extravagance. Gabrielle Chanel believed that a woman was uniquely equipped to dress women – she would remedy this lacking by staging her comeback show in rue Cambon on February 5th, 1954. Gabrielle Chanel was now seventy-one but while age had not affected her confidence the French press would. The collection was greeted with little fanfare in her home country – receiving scathing reviews. But her efforts were not entirely thankless with much praise coming from across the Atlantic. Vowing to continue, in the face of her critics, but with the support of the American buyers and press, her star would soar – again. Jan 85 STYLES 68

Gabrielle Chanel’s 1958 collection cemented her return. Suddenly the wool and tweed jackets and suits, that had been dismissed as dated, had become both the founder’s and the house’s signature style. Chanel had also introduced its first bag and shoes – the 2.55 quilted classic and the two-tone pumps. By the end of the 1950’s Gabrielle Chanel had become the couturiere of choice for the stars of both society and the screen. Hollywood was calling with actresses coveting Mademoiselle’s designs. Closer to home Delphine Seyrig wore the “little black dress” in her 1961 movie, L’Année dernière à Marienbad. In the closing scenes of The Return, Gabrielle Chanel reveals herself to one man, a journalist played by Rupert Everett, and he alone asks the questions few others seem willing to pose. Setting telling the tale of her comeback aside, Gabrielle Chanel reluctantly yet honestly tackles topics which vary from her childhood to love, youth, aging, style and the lack thereof. Karl Lagerfeld brings this hard-won period of Gabrielle Chanel’s life alive, shooting in the historic private apartments of rue Cambon and in historically accurate sets that beautifully re-imagine the famous salon and atelier below.

in 20 Iconic Pieces To select 20 iconic pieces from the thousands created by the Maison Cartier since its founding in 1847, the Image, Style and Heritage team, led by Pierre Rainero, established three relevant criteria: an emblematic style, originality and provenance. It was only as of 1899, with the third generation of Cartiers and their installation at 13, rue de la Paix, that Louis Cartier laid the foundations for the House style. A subtle mix of modernity, elegance and ingenuity that would make Cartier a house able to traverse future times. The exhibition “Cartier. Style and History,” at the Grand Palais in Paris, reveals the treasures of the Cartier Collection.

The Queen of the Belgians’ Garland-style Tiara By introducing the use of platinum in jewelry, Louis Cartier initiated a true revolution, both technically and stylistically. Cartier was the first to set diamonds in platinum, particularly for the tiaras. This technique, pioneered in the 1900s, allows for an extreme finesse of execution, resulting in creations of great delicacy that convey the impression of unprecedented lightness. This expertise quickly captivated the kings and queens of Europe and beyond. Elisabeth, Queen of the Belgians, purchased this garland-style tiara one year after she became queen and wore it on the forehead as a bandeau, which was very modern for its time, and even more so for a woman of such a high lineage.

1902 Cartier Platinum, old- and rosecut diamonds millegrain setting with height at center: 7 cm.

Cartier Platinum, one cushionshaped diamond, round old-cut diamonds millegrain setting with height at center: 5.5 cm.

Santos-Dumont Wristwatch Modern-Style Platinum and Diamond Hair Ornament This jewel is more a hair ornament than a tiara and illustrates Louis Cartier’s demand for innovation and his constant search for pure lines and essential designs. A stylistic trend that appealed to the royal courts, it also anticipated Art Deco. The tiara is so flexible that it can be transformed into a hair clasp or can be used as a hair band. Worn by Stella McCartney in 2012, it belonged to an American client who remains anonymous.

Created especially for his friend the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted to tell time easily while flying, the Santos wristwatch symbolizes Louis Cartier’s visionary approach. Louis was convinced that this accessory should be worn on the wrist. A certainty he was the first to promulgate forty years ahead of anyone! Pocket watches disappeared only in the mid-1940s.

Cartier Platinum, round old-cut diamonds, one triangular beveled 11.90 carat emerald, emerald cabochons and drop-shaped emeralds natural pearls and onyx.

Emerald and Diamond Brooch Cartier Yellow gold, pink gold, one sapphire cabochon, leather strap with dimensions of the case: 3.42 x 2.48 cm.

Jan 85 STYLES 80

This bold brooch was inspired by the Ballets Russes and illustrates Cartier’s pre-Art Deco design, announcing a modernity that combines the geometry of a simplified form with color. A beautiful example of the Parisian style, mixing the avant-garde with virtuosity and lightness.

Cartier Gold, platinum, rock crystal, rose-cut diamonds black enamel, coral cabochons and onyx.

Cartier Platinum, round old- and singlecut diamonds, leaf-shaped carved sapphires and rubies, emerald beads studded with collet-set diamonds, emerald cabochons, onyx beads for the berries and black enamel.

Tutti Frutti Bracelet Large Portique Mystery Clock with Billiken The mystery clocks illustrate Louis Cartier’s taste and his quest for streamlined design. Born of his collaboration with Maurice Coüet, these instruments of time remain mysterious, as their platinum-and-diamond hands seem to float within the clock’s transparent casing unconnected to any visible mechanism. This clock is the first in a series of six made by Cartier between 1923 and 1925, whose shape was inspired by the gates of Japanese Shinto shrines. Today Cartier has a unique collection of twenty mystery clocks, symbols of Cartier’s style and expertise.

Cartier’s fondness for other cultures is perfectly exemplified in this bracelet. Inspired by Indian jewelry, it is remarkable for its flexibility and the delicacy of its execution. This tree-shaped bracelet displays a color palette of great audacity; the flowers’ exuberance and the fruits of carved gemstones enchanted women of distinct tastes, such as Lady Mountbatten, Mrs. Cole Porter and Daisy Fellowes.

1924

1917

By the 1920s, Jeanne Toussaint, with the help of House designers, oversaw the small leather goods and all objects from her office at 13, rue de la Paix, including the delicate vanity cases. In 1933, Toussaint became official stylistic Director of the entire House and profoundly influenced the Cartier style with her impeccable taste and audacity. It was Toussaint who introduced the panther theme that was first used for objects before becoming the House emblem, a particular favorite of the Duchess of Windsor. Cartier Gold, platinum, black enamel, rose-cut diamonds, one baguette-cut diamond Carved emeralds and green enamel for the cypresses, two square emeralds, rubies for the trunks, calibrécut and faceted rubies for the ground and onyx cabochons for the panther.

1928

Tank Wristwatch Conceived by Louis Cartier, the Tank wristwatch embodies the perfect balance between classicism and modernity. Here, function becomes form. The hours are written in Roman numerals, as in clocks of the 17th century, while the square-shaped dial is thoroughly contemporary. The Tank watch is timeless, and its success constant and universal. The biggest Hollywood stars, such as Rudolph Valentino and Gary Cooper, and the most elegant ones, like Catherine Deneuve, wore it as a statement of style and freedom.

Cartier Platinum, gold, one sapphire cabochon, leather strap with dimensions of the case: 2.96 x 2.30 cm

Trinity Ring Louis Cartier’s idea of creating a ring to wear everyday was yet another brilliant innovation. Using three shades of gold—pink, white and yellow—one for each of the three intertwined bands, Cartier created the most famous ring in the world, which to this day also remains the most modern. Personalities such as Jean Cocteau, the Duke of Windsor and Grace Kelly, before she became Princess of Monaco, adopted the ring. The Trinity ring owes its success to the fluidity of the bands’ movement and the rigor of its lines.

Cartier Pink, white and yellow gold.

The necklace was originally set with 2,930 diamonds for a total weight of 1000 carats.Despite its magnificence, the recently restored collar seems as light as it is elegant and bold. This unique piece is part of a long tradition of ceremonial necklaces, and its cascading composition, with five Art Deco-style platinum chains paved with diamonds, dazzles with the force of its style, celebrating the spirit of Cartier Paris. 1928 Ganna Walska’s Chimera Bangle Derived from both Chinese and Indian influences, this bracelet reflects Cartier’s curiosity about the cultures of the world. Explosion of colors, fluted emeralds, carved corals, and chimera heads are an integral part of Cartier’s vocabulary. Ganna Walska, a beautiful opera singer of Polish origin, commissioned this piece at rue de la Paix in 1928. An influential trendsetter and a faithful client of Cartier, over the years she built a unique collection of jewelry. In the early 1970s, Walska decided to sell her jewelry in order to endow a foundation and create an extraordinary garden in California. Cartier Gold, platinum, cushionshaped, pear-, single- and baguette-cut diamond, two fluted emerald beads, one carved emerald, bufftop emeralds and emerald cabochons, two leafshaped carved sapphires, sapphire cabochons and buff-top sapphires, carved coral, green, blue and black enamel.

Kate Middleton, on the occasion of her marriage to Prince William, on April 29, 2011, gave new life to the Halo tiara. Composed of stylized petals and paved with 739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette-cut diamonds, this head ornament takes its name from its halo shape. The tiara, which can be disassembled into two or three parts, was commissioned in 1936 by the future King George VI, for his wife Elizabeth. As dictated by tradition, the Duchess of Cambridge wore it with femininity and timeless grace at her wedding. 1930 Gloria Swanson’s Rock Crystal Bracelets These rock crystal bracelets were created just after the Wall Street crash. Purchased by Hollywood star Gloria Swanson in 1932 for her marriage to Frenchman Michael Farmer, they glide smoothly onto the wrist and can be worn singly or together. The combination of rock crystal and diamonds makes them modern and light and corresponded to the fashion codes of the day. These two dazzling creations, unforgettable in the history of jewelry, appeared on the silver screen in 1933, in Perfect Understanding, and 1950, in Sunset Boulevard. The Duchess of Windsor’s Flamingo Brooch It is said that a batch of precious stones, dismounted from jewels belonging to the Duchess of Windsor, ended up one day on the table of the rue de la Paix workshop. From this set of sapphires, rubies and emeralds the notion of a bird brooch was born in the mind of Jeanne Toussaint—a flamingo majestic in size and surprising in its multicolored plumage. The brooch immediately charmed the Duchess and illustrates the strong affinity in tastes between Toussaint and the Windsor couple. The House would wait until 2010 to acquire this unique piece for inclusion in the Cartier Collection. The Duchess of Windsor’s Panther Brooch This Panther brooch marks a special milestone in the history of the House. Even the newspapers of the time referred to it as the “atomic bomb of jewelry.” Conceived like a sculpture, this three-dimensional creation, which was not made on commission but intended as a stock piece, is striking for its sophistication and the cat’s naturalness and elegance, and exudes a genuine magnetism. A creation of Jeanne Toussaint’s unerring intuition, it appealed immediately to the Duchess of Windsor—this Panther could only be for her!

Cartier Platinum, white gold, single-cut diamonds, two pear-shaped yellow diamonds for the eyes, one 152.35-carat Kashmir sapphire cabochon and sapphire cabochons for the spots.

1948 Bird Brooch With the return of peace at the end of the war, Paris and Cartier sought to revive their joie de vivre. Jeanne Toussaint offered women jewelry that was comfortable, frank and self-assured. Her creations are audacious and free. With this commanding bird, which displays diamonds of many sizes, she encouraged women to assert themselves. Palm-Tree Brooch

Love Bracelet

Cartier’s palms were designed in the manner of flowering trees, with their nonchalant branches, and articulated leaves holding gleaming ruby fruit. The power of this particular brooch resides in its grace and delicacy, with rubies of a rare brilliant red. The combination of several diamond sizes gives the illusion of supple palms and leaves culminating in a wonderful pliancy. A marvelous illustration of the House’s expertise and floral inspiration.

Aldo Cipullo designed this iconic jewel in 1970, while at Cartier New York. A regular visitor to Studio 54, Cipullo associated with the artists at Andy Warhol’s Factory, and his creations were influenced by Pop Art. Inspired by everyday objects, he furnished this bracelet with a special screwdriver so that this “love handcuff” could only be closed with the help of another person. A symbol of absolute love.

Barbara Hutton’s Tiger Clip Brooch and Pair of Tiger Ear Clips Barbara Hutton, heiress to the Woolworth stores, who inspired the film Poor Little Rich Girl, was one of the wealthiest women in the world. Having lost her parents when she was very young—her mother died when she was six and her father when she was 18—she developed as a teenager a taste for extravagance. Ever loyal to Cartier, she purchased from them the Romanov emeralds and had her Rolls Royce repainted to match the gems. Fond of tigers, she asked Jeanne Toussaint to design a clip brooch and a pair of threedimensional ear clips. The legs and tail of the animals are articulated to move with the body.

Cartier Gold, single and brilliant-cut diamonds ranging from fancy intense yellow to near colorless, marquiseshaped emeralds for the eyes and fancy-shaped onyx for the stripes.

María Félix’s Crocodile Necklace

María Félix’s Crocodile necklace exemplifies the Mexican star—no limits. The woman who played the flamboyant character at the arm of Jean Gabin in French Cancan, loves extravagance. A faithful client of the House, she once visited her official jeweler at rue de la Paix accompanied by a baby crocodile in an aquarium and requested that he reproduce the animal in the form of a necklace. The piece was completed a few months later. Larger than life, the necklace is fully articulated and each crocodile can be worn separately as a brooch.

From 4 December to 16 February 2014, this creative heritage will be on display at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Hermes Arceau Le temps suspendu The Arceau Le temps suspendu watch provides a chance to experience a break, an interlude over which time has no hold. Its 38 mm diameter case features a pushbutton that may be pressed to bring the hour and minute hands to a halt at about 12 o’clock. Time is thus erased from the watch dial and dissociated from standard time that meanwhile pursues its invisible march. Pressing the button once more sets time running again. The gaze is instinctively drawn to the lively hand perpetually whirling backwards on the small subdial with 24 graduations, as if playfully taunting the passing of time. Behind these pirouettes lies a clever mechanism orchestrating a unique horological complication exclusively developed for Hermès. Protected by two patents – one for its architecture and the other for the play-reducing gear teeth – the module is an addition to the Manufacture Calibre H1912. The running time and suspended time phases are coordinated by two synchronised column wheels: one driving the hours and the other the minutes. This 360° retrograde hour and minute mechanism makes time disappear without stopping the movement. Its uninterrupted running is displayed on the movement operating indicator, driven by a fourth wheel turning in the opposite direction.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Bijou Secret Ornamental Stones Sugilite, lapis lazuli, malachite, tiger ‘s eye, aventurine, pink mother-of-pearl and even turquoise, the Tambour Bijou Secret, launched in 2012 in gold and motherof-pearl, is now available in a new colorama of 7 ornamental stones. The white mother-of-pearl dial with thin silver-toned skeleton hour and minute hands is adorned by 9 sparkling diamond markers, silver-toned stick indices at 3 and 9 o’clock, and signature Movado concave dot at 12.

Longines La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds maintains all the characteristics of the original creations of this emblematic collection but now combines the classical elegance of those ultra-slim models with the sparkle of 100 diamonds. A large part of the attraction of La Grande Classique de Longines is the ultra-slim case – only 4.60 mm for the new models. This profile has been achieved through the particular design of the case, which incidentally Longines has patented, whereby the back incorporates the lugs for the bracelet. The glittering timepieces set with 100 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds around the bezel and 12 diamond indices on the dial are made of steel and equipped with a quartz movement. Hours and minutes are indicated on a blue, black or mother-of-pearl dial. La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds has a diameter of 29 mm. The models are fitted either on black alligator straps with buckle or on steel bracelets with folding safety clasp and push-piece opening mechanism. Thanks to the suppleness of its fine links, the bracelet fits snugly on the curve of the wearer’s wrist. Jan 85 STYLES 86

Kimono & Beyond Japan’s Influence on the

Fashion Industry Japan has been one of the capitals we watch when it comes to fashion and trends. How did this happen you might ask? It all started with the simple kimono that until this day remains in the Japanese culture. The first to adapt western clothing were officers and men and also some of the army and navy men after seeing all the English marines who were stationed in Japan.

The Kimono The Kimono is a traditional Japanese garment that is wrapped around the body in several layers and is held in place with sashes. This is a huge part of the Japanese culture and fashion, although they have adapted western fashion. Today, western fashion has reconstructed the Kimono, which we are witnessing all around the runways and streets. For Japanese women, there are six different types of Kimonos. They are the furisode, uchikake, houmongi, yukata, tomesode, and mofuku and it all depends on her marital status and what event she is attending. As with western clothing, the kimono is styled to fit each season. Darker colors and more layers for winter, more vibrant colors and less layers for summer. Kate Blanchett Nov 83 STYLES 90

Japanese Street Fashion

P r ada

P r ada

Street fashion is a very interesting topic to be discussed in every society or country as it differs not only in different countries, but also for different individuals. Street fashion is all about customizing your outfit and making it more “you.” We all wait for those viral photos of fashionistas and bloggers during fashion week more than the actual shows. Why is that? Because their outfits are more personal, they might be dressed head-totoe in Comme des Garcons but it is worn the way the person wants it to be. Since the middle of the 19th century, Japanese people began to wear western attire, and by the start of the 21st century street fashion has emerged. Mixing trends with traditions has become a very interesting aspect of fashion that even designers have been using it. As far as we know, Furstenberg is not Japanese but somehow she still offers DVF kimonos and we love them! Tokyo’s club scene has been influenced strongly by the fashion industries. People wait all week to go out and show off their planned outfits on that Saturday night. Music has also influenced Japanese street fashion in a huge way, from hip-hop music videos to rap; it all has been a major aspect in the change of Japanese street fashion. It happens in every society, don’t you remember in the late ‘90s when all the guys were showing off their boxers under their low-rise jeans with multiple chains and walking all funny thinking they’re 50 cent or something? Yup, it’s sort of the same thing.

The Japanese Fashion industry The Japanese have always been known for their different taste of clothes and how they loved to mix and match various colors and genres of clothing. Nowadays you see Japanese fashion all around the streets in the fashion capitals of the world. New York, Milan, Paris, London, you name it! The three designers that have helped with the evolution of Japanese fashion influenced by western society are Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe, and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons. They were said to be the three cornerstone brands of Japanese fashion. Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer who is known for his designs that are influenced by technology. He had studied in both Paris and New York but returned to Tokyo in 1970 to open up Miyake Design Studio, which produces high-end women’s fashion. He was known in the late 1980s for his new methods of pleating which allowed the wearers more flexibility and ease of movement. It was also easier to produce. This resulted in a new technique, which helped Issey produce his line “Pleats Please” in 1993. Remember the black turtleneck Steve Jobs was always seen in? Well there is an actual story behind that. He and Issey were close friends so one day Steve asked him to make him some black turtlenecks, Issey made hundreds! I guess he never ran out. The name Issey Miyake is a big one in the fashion world, his designs are all around the world and people recognize them as Miyake’s designs. Let’s start about with his first collection by the name “Issey Miyake” which is his main collection for both men and women. The second was Issey Miyake Fete which was a colorful line for women which is influenced by Pleats Please. The third was “Pleats Please Issey Miyake” which started in the year 1989. “HaaT” was also a women’s line designed by Issey’s former textile designer. There are many other collaborations and projects that have made his name a big one in the fashion world. Miyake has won countless awards; one of them is the Kyoto Prize for Arts and Philosophy which is a big deal. Issey Miyake is definitely not your typical designer! Another Japanese designer that everyone is constantly raving about is Junya Watanabe. Junya originally worked with designer Rei Kawakubo who mentored him. He was born in Japan in the year 1961 which makes him 52 years old. He had attended the Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. Junya started at Comme des Garcons as a patternmaker and then he was promoted to chief designer for the “homme” line for men. He launched his own line in 2001 with the help of Comme des Garcons after working under Rei for 10 years. Junya Watanabe is known for his innovative designs and clothes. In the year 2007, he was asked to design shoes for All-Star Converse. Loewe’s capsule collection in collaboration with Junya Watanabe was displayed in both London and New York. It had a bit of each brand’s personality in each handbag. For example, there were leather-denim types and also some tartan and polka dots too. This collaboration had marked 400 years since Japan established trade. Nov 83 STYLES 91

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo has seen many great Japanese designers that people are flying all the way to Japan to witness it. Harajuku Style Harajuku originated among the Japanese teens that always used to hang out near Harajuku Station in Shibuya, Japan. You might be familiar with this type of fashion because of Gwen Stefani who gets her influence from it. Some people even think she started it, but it didn’t start with her and it is definitely not going to end with her. Harajuku is a type of street fashion that is a bit out of the ordinary. It is all about mixing and mismatching different items of clothing and trends. There came a time when all the Japanese wore was western clothing, but Harajuku was all about bringing traditions back such as the kimono and sandals.

Dynamic Dazzlers From the Streets of L.A.

This month in Los Angeles has been so fun! I started out the month attending an amazing event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for Joanna Krupa’s charity for animals. It was a star studded event held at the Jason of Beverly Hills jewelry store, and was so extravagant that paparazzi was swarming the lobby! The charity even arranged for cute little puppies to come and be shown around in hopes of being adopted. I won’t lie; I contemplated adopting one but thought my dog Dolce might get jealous! So after a few hours of people donating money to the foundation and a couple of puppies getting adopted, I decided to head to the next event.

Yalda wears: Top hand: Antelope, eagle head, and double tail silver cuffs by Kathy Rose. Black onyx bullet cuff by Zoe Chicco. Index and middle finger rings by One Jewelry Los Angeles. Knuckle “V” ring by Jacquie Aiche. Bottom hand: Snake cuffs by Kathy Rose. Finger bracelet by Zoe Chicco. Rings by One Jewelry Los Angeles. Evil eye knuckle ring by Jacquie Aiche.

The next stop was French Tuesday, a monthly event that changes location and is attended by only the chic and elite of Los Angeles. This past month the event was held at Les Noces du Figaro, an upscale trendy French bistro in downtown Los Angeles. Aside from the normal cuisine of the restaurant, the organizer of the event brought models to show off elegant arrays of 1920s dresses, while the bakery of the restaurant was turned into a creperie! Not only did I get to enjoy delicious French specialties such as onion soup and boeuf bourguignon, but I also enjoyed the ambiance so much that at one point I almost felt like I was in Paris on the Champs-Elysees. A couple of days later, I went to Palos Verdes with my friends and family to have a fun filled day, or Sunday Funday, as we like to call it. Anyway, we started out the day at beautiful Terranea Resort for brunch. We sat outside at the restaurant and ate a delicious meal while enjoying the sound of the ocean and the light breeze. This hotel is literally like a little piece of heaven! The view is so breathtaking, the ocean looks so blue and magnificent, and best of all it is literally in the middle of nowhere. I mean you would never expect to find something like this in the Los Angeles area. You almost feel like you’re in Hawaii when you go here. The vibe is so laid back and the waves are unlike anything you have seen in Santa Monica or Malibu. The great thing about Los Angeles is that even in the wintertime we have sunshine. All you ever need is a light jacket, and a pair of sunglasses, and you’re set for any season in LA. After brunch, we decided to walk off some of those pancakes by taking a hike down one of the cliffs. We wore our Uggs and made our way down the steep, sandy path. Once we reached the bottom we saw a lot of surfers in the ocean, and tons of marine life in the water. The great part about PV is that the ocean is very protected. You cannot remove anything from the beach or contaminate it with litter or other harmful objects. That’s probably why the water looks so clean compared to the rest of LA! The view was so remarkable that we decided to stay there till sunset before making our way back to the top. And I have to say that this was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. With the ocean, the cliffside, and the multi-colored sky behind the descending sun, I felt like I was in the middle of a portrait. It could not have been more exceptionally magnificent! Finally we made our way back home, but the whole ride back I kept thinking how gorgeous LA truly is, and finally understood why so many claim that the city of angels is truly the best in the world.

Elle L’aime with Sasha Pivovarova

Elle L’aime, the newest fragrance from Lolita Lempicka, embodies the divine state of love and passion that transports you to a dreamlike world. It is the perfect fragrance for a woman in love, reminding her of the thrill of this powerful and dazzling emotion. The fragrance is an incandescent harmony, ignited by rare and natural ingredients, that casts an irresistible fragrance trail. Elle L’aime’s top notes create a vibrant and luxurious combination with coconut flower and lime, while sensuous jasmine and bewitching myrrh merge in the heart of the fragrance. Every aspect of this fragrance simply radiates with the glow of a woman in love. Russian supermodel Sasha Pivovarova is the face of the new fragrance. She’s a woman that relates to every aspect of this fragrance that simply radiates with the glow of a woman in love.

Styles: What’s the significance of a scent in a beauty regimen?

S: What are your favorite scents in a perfume?

Sasha Pivovarova: I believe your scent completes your look, so I always use perfume before I leave the house. A women’s scent is her deadliest weapon.

SP: My favorite scents would have to be the subtle smell of jasmine; the delicious coconut flower, the clean smell of lime and aromatic notes of myrrh.

S: What do you envisage when you smell Elle L’aime?

S: You have beautiful skin, can share your must have skincare products?

SP: Whenever I smell Ell L’aime, I imagine a carnal bouquet of white flowers. It’s such a beautifully light and natural scent, so it is perfect for the daytime to brighten up your day. S: What kind of woman are Lolita Lempicka perfumes perfect for? SP: Lolita Lempicka’s fragrances are created to celebrate femininity and love. They’re perfect scents for beautiful, happy women, who love their lives and what they do. S: Most women have a strong connection to the first fragrance they used, what’s your first resounding memory of a scent? SP: I think most girls would agree their first memories of a fragrance relate back to their mothers, that scent will always be special to you. Discovering a new perfume is almost like discovering a delicious new desert that immediately becomes your new favorite thing. S: What’s been one of the biggest highlights of your career? SP: Every day is a highlight of my career. Every time I open a magazine and I see new editorials or adverts I get a sense of pride. Modeling, much like acting, is a provisional profession and many aren’t lucky enough to make it as far as I have, and for that I am sincerely grateful. It’s a satisfying feeling to see all your determination, dedication and ambition result in success. I’m truly blessed. Jan 85 STYLES 100

SP: I have so many products my bathroom cabinet is overflowing, some of my must haves are; coconut oil, Embryollisse cream, Shu Uemura moisturizing masks, lip balm, Chanel makeup remover and Bioderma. S: When it comes to makeup, what are your essentials? SP: I’m not really big on using a lot of makeup, so I tend to only carry a few essentials. In my line of work, I constantly have make up on, so I like to keep it light and natural for my off-duty look. My essentials are; YSL Touché Éclat, Lancôme Mascara, Chanel and Armani base and lip balm. S: What’s an average 24 hours in your life look like? SP: An average day for me starts fairly early as I like to get in my workout and morning shower before I have breakfast with my daughter Mia. I then usually head to work, which would consist of a few hours of preparation for hair and make up, and then shooting would take place over lunch with the team and carry on for the rest of the day. I always try to keep a healthy balance between my work and my family life, as I’m a working mum. So after my shoots I spent my evenings playing with Mia, then I either read a book or work on my art.

The Health Tip List

Well-Being

Health

1

How many times do you eat a day? It might seem like the less we eat the thinner we become. This is not the case, eating 3 times a day or less is so last year. We now know better, eating 5-6 times a day is key. Eating snacks in between meals (considering they are healthy snacks) will do wonders to your body. Avoiding any form of deprivation or absence of nutrition as well as speeding up your metabolism. Many diets do recommend 6 smaller meals as oppose to 3 main ones. Try it out for a day, try eating every three hours and see the benefits you will gain.

2

Never be hungry and never be full. Hunger is not a good sign, it means your body is deprived from energy and is sending a warning call or an S.O.S signal. This means you have waited too long to eat. Eating when hungry also increases chances of overeating and over indulgence in food. Causing you to eat more and eat faster. If you were eating in a comfortable state chances are you are most likely to be very conscious while eating out of desperation.

Follow our previous tips and you will find it easier to make this one a habit. Eat slower! eating slowly gives your brain time to realize when it has had enough. Research says that it takes 20 minutes for signals to reach the brain indicating that you are full. That is why competitive eaters eat as quickly as possible. Well, you are no competitive eater so take your time and savor each bite. By eating slower you will not only digest better but you will also end up eating much less and being truly satisfied with only the essential amount of food needed.

Regulate water consumption. There has always been much dispute over how to consume water with food. Many people suggest its unhealthy and other recommend it saying it helps you consume less food. You must have also heard of the diet that encourages two glasses of water before each meal to reduce intake. The truth is your body is not that easily tricked, follow our previous tips and you will not need to worry about overeating. To regulate your water consumption drink a glass of water half an hour before a meal and another half an hour after. This way you get the maximum hydration with your meal without diluting the nutrients and effecting your appetite and consumption levels.

5

Moving during the day, whether it’s a 5 minute exercise when waking up or a scheduled 15 minute walk every day. Exercise no matter how little will always help promote a healthy metabolism rate and regulate food consumption. Eating well is never enough, there is no emotion without motion. Moving has many benefits and compliment any eating plan you ever have in mind

Power of the Plus

Before meeting anyone, take a few moments to run in your mind how much you appreciate this person. Either remembering something that they have done that has positively affected your life or even a way that knowing them has made you stronger. (In the case that you don’t particularly like them) whatever it is find something you appreciate about them being in your life. You will find that when you meet them with an underlying appreciation for them, you will have a very positive time with them. With such busy minds we never appreciate the people around us and are not present with them. Use this trick to add some love in your every interaction.

4

3

2

Before any business meeting. Run through your mind the best possible outcome, envision yourself at your best performance and anticipate the best results. This will reduce the levels of stress that burden us on the day to day basis surrounding our performance and raise the standards of your professional interactions. It is a way of training your mind to perform best, any shortcomings will be obvious when compared to the perfect scenario made in your mind, that way you would know just what to improve in the future. Do this until your ultimate vision of yourself matches your reality.

Whenever an encounter goes worse than expected or you find yourself feeling down because you didn’t do your best. Whether you followed our first two tips or not. Never allow yourself to be defeated. Run through everything that happened but this time with the best possible outcomes. Imagine it had gone really well and you being in the most perfect state. What you end up doing is rewinding the tape and filling in the gaps of what happened to what you needed to happen. This soothes the feeling of failure and bridges the gaps of negative with positive feelings. Letting you take things easier and training your mind to work better for the future. Eliminating any fear of future failures or trying to avoid similar situations in the future.

Do you run through your goals daily? Make it a habit to read all your goals every morning before starting your day. It will give you direction for your day and programs your mind to do everything in its power to achieve them. How can you get what you want when you don’t even define it? It doesn’t matter whether you have already written them down anywhere. You must remind yourself daily. Feel the feelings you would feel when you achieve them, remind yourself the reasons you do what you do and what really motivates you to do them.

5

When your own motivation is not dong the trick. Look to others, as they say, success leaves clues. You can research a figure you find interesting and accomplished and find their rituals. Remind yourself what you want is possible and has been achieved. Also, the rituals your role model is adopting to get there. Chances are when you develop the same rituals you will achieve the same results. Article by Yalda Golsharifi Jan 85 STYLES 111

Hokkaido I f you love nature, you won’t want to skip Hokkaido! Daisetsu-zan National Park is a hikers dream, with many trails to choose from including ones over the mountain peaks or through the soaring rock gorges. The most historic city in the area is Hakodate. This lovely quaint town has 19th century wooden houses and churches built by expat traders, and literally resembles a scene out of a Disney movie! Sapporo is the modern capital of the area and is home to the nightlife center of Suskino. Sapporo also has some amazing snow festivals in the winter- time and is a great place to go skiing. One of Japan’s top resorts includes Niseko, a small ski resort town in Hokkaido, boasting powdery snow and gorgeous slopes. In addition to skiing, there is ice climbing, telemark skiing, and boarding through untouched snow. In the summer, the area is perfect for whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and kayaking. Niseko also has a mineral rich hot spring, which is perfect for after-ski soreness. In fact, the Japanese have been using these hot springs, or onsen as it is commonly referred to, for centuries. The earliest mention was more than a 1,000 years ago in Dogo. That city remains one of the most famous onsen resorts and actually has a 3-story onsen in the center of the 19th century resort.

Step Out in Style or in Fur! Clean, Renovate and Store your furs at Delicates

I

t’s that time of the year again! For Eggnog? Nope. For hot chocolate or spiced Latté? Maybe. For roasted chestnuts? Ummm... Yes, but no. IT’S FUR TIME!!! Fur coats are a staple piece this season, and can transform your outfit from passable to posh! Trendsetters are embracing the fabulous and the fluffy this winter. While a designer fur coat can be expensive, it serves well in keeping you adequately warm during cold weather spells and winter cold. Besides, it is the sort of clothing item that makes heads turn when you wear it. It is well worth the special care that you should give it; you should be able to maintain it so that it lasts several years. And keeping fur beautiful however requires its own easy, yet unique, brand of care. For fur coat connoisseurs who wish to clean their suitably stylish Christian Dior, Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, or Versace fur coats or fur vests, use this one tip to restore your designer furs to their original soft and fluffy texture: have them cleaned at Delicates Fix and Clean. “A fur coat is no impulse purchase. It is also not a wash and wear garment that you can clean quickly at the neighborhood dry cleaner”, explains Delicates Fix and Clean General Manager Yorgo Dabaj. “Fur coats are decadent and expensive luxury fabrics that have specific instructions for their meticulous cleaning and maintenance regimen. Our furriers have extensive process knowledge and skills not possessed by people or businesses that do not specialize in furs,” he adds. Jan 85 STYLES 120

Fur cleaning is indeed like no other cleaning process. It is highly advisable not take them to a drycleaner. Too many times people end up with a destroyed fur coat and in a legal dispute with a business that was unqualified to service their fur to begin with. Delicates fur-care specialists use equipment and materials specifically designed for fur. Besides, you do not clean a fur coat just because it gets dirty. The number one concern with fur material is that the natural oils in the pelts will dry out. Once this happens the pelts become so brittle or tender that they will tear with incredible ease, rendering the garment useless. That’s why you need a furrier’s intervention. Delicates offers cleaning your furs and storing them when the cold is over, so that you can rock that chic and elegant look just like your favorite stars. Celebrities aren’t the only ones who can look fab in the cold!

Free pick-up and delivery services. For more info, call the Salmiya branch: 25721110/5 or the Al-Rai branch: 24747413/5.

Triwa

Yacob Behbehani Sons Co. is proud to have officially launched Swedish watch brand Triwa in Kuwait. The collection of Triwa watches and shades was presented at Q Café at The Yard in Kuwait City on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013. Media representatives of Kuwait enjoyed a breakfast together before having the chance to take photos and view the latest releases by the brand. Triwa was created in 2007 when four friends decided to quit their jobs to follow a long-held dream. Without any formal watch background the four of them set out to create unconventional watches, thus choosing the Triwa acronym, which stands for Transforming the Industry of Watches. For their Spring/Summer 2014 collection Triwa focused on extending their assortment of stainless steel watches, by adding two new Lansen watches in shiny gold and brushed gun metal. They also felt that the Lansen needed a sibling, so they created the LansenChrono to keep it company. LansenChrono is neat, sophisticated chronograph, with signature round hour indexes and date fiction at 4h. It comes in four colors, all with radially brushed dials and sub dials, and a large variety of straps ranging from dressier link bracelet to a sporty canvas strap. But Triwa wouldn’t be Triwa without some colorful additions to the collection. The brightest shining star might be a golden Niben with bright purple detailing and a double wrap strap in vibrant purple canvas and organic tan leather. It’s joined by a more subdued stainless steel Niben with a sky-blue canvas strap. It’s a diverse selection of timepieces, with a deep spectrum of colors, materials, textures and detailing, playful yet sensible. This is the third season of Triwa’s making sunglasses and their collection is growing. They proudly present precious newcomers ready to adorn your face. Meet Grace, Olivia, Nicki and Miles who are waiting to become the unprotected eyes new best friend, accompanied by some bright new additions of old favorites. Triwa have played around with vibrant colors, steel, transparencies, heavy material thicknesses and bold shares to add little attitude to your summer disguise. As usual the Triwa sunglasses have classic silhouettes, beautifully handcrafted in acetate, with contemporary detailing and contrasting temple tips. Each frame is carefully polished and fitted with lenses from Carl Zeiss Vision, optical Class I, and a guarantee of full protection of your eyes.

Hermes Launches Epice Marine The eleventh fragrance in the Hermessence collection, Épice Marine takes its place in a field of expression that Jean-Claude Ellena has been exploring since 2004, but also outlines new shores for this collection. Épice Marine tells the story of a meeting between two men: JeanClaude Ellena and Olivier Roellinger. A meeting between the perfumer from the south and the “cuisinier corsaire” (the pirate chef). From smells to tastes, connections were established and they sustained the creative process of these two lovers of spices. Inspired by this long term meeting of minds, Jean-Claude Ellena brings us Épice Marine, an accord of spices, sea spray and ocean waters. Épice Marine is a wave of spices in northern seas. A blast of air that is as brisk as it is warm, that is stimulating and exhilarating. An incisive poem, a messenger of sea spray but also of feverish heat. A bottle and “saddle stitched” leather: every fragrance in the Hermessence collection has its own corresponding livery drawn from the infinite variety of in-house leathers. For Epice Marine the spirit of the open seas lends its color to the bottle and the case thanks to a new combination: on the outside Thalassa blue swift calfskin, evoking the North Sea; on the inside slate Mysore goatskin, an echo of mist and wet pebbles.

We have put in a great deal towards maintain the spice levels of dishes and not using any preservatives or coloring. The new menu reveals an unmatched level of creativity and imagination as we have put together various recipes and ingredients to offer an unforgettable dining experience to our guests. We use a simplistic cooking approach treating ingredients with care and use the best-suited cooking techniques. Ensuring the taste of each dish is kept clean and simple, our ground rule is to ensure the spices used are maintained to a level where they can be distinctly identified and enjoyed, and are not over-empowering.” Among the new appetizers are the ‘double mushroom’ (batter fried mushrooms with vegetables and cheese), ‘aloo tikki’ (fried potato cakes with cumin and green peas) and ‘lamb shammi kebab’ (lamb patties with mint and caramelized onion). New additions also include a sizzling platter for kebabs – choice of vegetarian, non-vegetarian and seafood designed for family dinners. The main dishes have additional choices of biryani’s including the fish biryani and shrimp biryani. New tandoor items include ‘chicken malai tikka’ , ‘lamb seekh kebab’ and ‘tandoori prawns to name a few. Curries are the most important form of main courses in Indian cuisine and customers can expect some surprise element with the new ‘prawn coconut curry’ (Bengali style shrimp curry with mustard and coconut) and ‘chicken tikka masala’ (tandoori chicken tikka with tomato and fenugreek) The offer of a new beverage menu compliments the food as well and has varied choices from a ‘lassi’ to the refreshing ‘citrus splash’. A new dimension has been given to the Indian tea known as ‘chai frappe’ which is served cold and is as interesting as cold coffee. The restaurant has also enhanced the menu by adding a large selection of vegetarian dishes. The exhaustive menu offers as many as four vegetarian kebabs and eight main course dishes to choose from. The feast is not complete unless you enjoy the best in-house dessert ‘saffron and pista kulfi with rabri. Zafran, located in Salmiya (Salem Al Mubarak Street), is known for its vibrant and modern setting, and is a warm and welcoming retreat for friends and family who wish to relax and enjoy good high quality food at purse-friendly prices.

Tanagra Unveils ‘At Home with Tanagra’ at Grand Avenues Tanagra commemorates its position at the helm of art de vivre with an exhibition of the famous French photographer Thierry Bouët. Held under the patronage of the French Embassy and Institut Français, ‘At Home with Tanagra’ was unveiled during an intimate cocktail reception at Tanagra’s new concept store in Grand Avenues, The Avenues. The unveiling was held in the presence of Sheikha alRajaan, Anthony Chalhoub, Edith Chalhoub, his Excellency Christian Nakhlé the Ambassador of the French Embassy in Kuwait and the Kuwaiti artist Amira Behbehani. Earlier this year, Bouët was invited to Kuwait to capture the interiors of 6 houses, resulting in a collection of artistic photographs. The exhibition not only showcased some of the region’s most beautiful interiors, it also challenged any pre-conceived notions of good taste. Guests were invited to view the exhibition against the backdrop of Tanagra’s carefully curated selection of Art de Vivre pieces. The inspired quality that resonates throughout Tanagra allowed for the perfect venue to showcase an exhibition that celebrates exceptional art and interiors. “We are delighted to have collaborated with Mr. Bouët to highlight the distinctive style and taste of Middle Eastern Homes. Tanagra’s concept has actively served as a base of inspiration for luxury interiors throughout the region. It is and will always be an inspiring, refined and edited array of unique lifestyle gifts and art de vivre under one roof.” concluded Anthony Chalhoub.
