ARLÉSIENNE EAU DE TOILETTE

In her wake, this woman leaves a distinct trace of her presence. You can still hear the whisper of fabrics, still smell the lingering trail of a new fragrance. Three floral notes, each one like a trait of her character, fuse together: the fiery temperament of saffron, the grace of rose, the mystery of violet. The head notes bring bursts of colour and joie de vivre. Radiant and precious, the saffron flower in full bloom introduces its sensual, peppery and spicy notes. Elegant and difficult to subdue, the Grasse rose at the heart of the scent is enhanced by a few sprigs of lily of the valley. While violet goes slightly astray, settling into enveloping, sensorial white wood.

ARLÉSIENNE

THE WOMAN OF ARLES

There is so much more to this woman from the South than the ties she shares with L’OCCITANE. Her very character, rooted in the ground, in the stonework of Arles, is what spurred the desire of L’OCCITANE and the creation of this fragrance – The Arlésienne is like no other. She arouses creativity signature of the perfumer in Provence. and inspires artists (Van Gogh, Picasso, Léo Lelée, Mistral, Bizet...). She is the silent, markedly absent heroine of a play by Daudet in three acts, in which she is constantly referred to, yet TO CONJURE UP THE FRAGRANCE never appears. OF A L’OCCITANE WOMAN, WE TOOK THE UNIQUE NOTES OF THREE FLOWERS THAT REFLECT THE STORY OF THE ARLÉSIENNE – THIS MUSE FROM THE LANDS OF THE SOUTH WHO INSPIRES THE PERFUMER IN PROVENCE.

To satisfy all your desires, L’OCCITANE imagined a woman who has everything of the Arlésienne: beautiful, satiny, powdered skin; velvet-soft, perfumed hands; irresistible lips… LIMITED EDITIONS

Editor’s Tip & Pick

Tired of your foundation looking cakey and not so natural? Here’s a tip for you! Apply foundation all over your face and then wipe your cheeks with tissue, this makes it easier for you to layer your blush naturally.

Drop Off You don’t have to wait for the next event to try Chef Adoola’s mean lasagna. Our favorite chef has a new concept for us and we couldn’t be happier! “Drop Off” is a unique way to experience her creations at home outside the catering venues. Using only the freshest of ingredients, you can try anything off Chef Adoola’s catering menu “dropped off” at your doorstep. Behind every collection is an inspiration, and that includes a collection of food choices or a menu. Adoola’s inspiration came from her travelling. Her love for Asia and Asian cuisine has allowed her to be diverse with dishes and flavors. Have you ever sat on a table and was satisfied with just one choice available to you? Of course not, we here in our society to love variety whether it’s shoes or dishes. The Drop Off concept allows you to be diverse and allow you as a hostess or someone who is just really hungry, to have a variety of choices and cuisine types. There are two different portion sizes available: 1) Regular size (up to 6 guests) 2) Large size (up to 10 guests). Again, these portion sizes allow us to be flexible with choices whilst ordering.

Naturally Playful / Naturally Kenzo This year evian® and French fashion house Kenzo, partnered up to create a pure bottle, driven by a playful yet distinctly mysterious spirit. Kenzo’s Creative Directors, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have united with evian® to convey their graphic, intimate vision for a unique, one-ofa-kind bottle. The mysterious and strange œuvre of artist and director David Lynch influenced the Kenzo Fall-Winter 2014 collections for men and women and it is in this vein that the bottle’s motif features a broken floor pattern, toying with the idea of shifting the elements. Offering a magnifying glass effect when full, the bottle’s purple fragmented pattern is penetrated by a sole lime zig-zag, giving the holder a distorted and skewed view of its ultra-pure contents. Born in the purity of the Alps, dressed with a twisted spirit, the bottle embodies a naturally playful energy: a theme that unites the two brands.

Trends We Love

From the streets of London to the streets of Kuwait a few trends have spread this month that we simply can not get over. From fur trimmed beauties to star-filled accessories. Now how about that union jack McQueen clutch? Mix and match different trends to fit your personal style.

MARKUS LUPFER Jolly Wool Striped Lara Lip Jumper [thouqi.com]

XOXO this lip print is taking over! Isn’t the Lulu Guinness coin purse just adorable? Or maybe go all out if you’re opting for a fun look and carry the clutch with huge red lip coin purse! Since sweater weather is back we think a Markus Lupfer lip jumper with a pair of leggings is the go-to outfit when you’re in a hurry.

Shoulder dresses and beautiful printed Tory Burch fur muffs both fur trimmed in style. Styling these items is easy but don’t go too overboard, let the attention be on the main attraction. We can’t wait show off in our MSGM faux fur trim dress with nude booties and an updo to complete the look.

Star-struck Whilst on the topic of prints, aren’t these star-struck clutches the cutest? We especially love the Edie Parker acrylic box clutch. Wear with a simple evening gown or maybe an LBD for a night out. A more casual option would be the Stella McCartney clutch.

Cha-chinnnnnggggg… Jackpot! We just found the perfect color to go with all the black we have in our wardrobe. We all hate to admit it, but we love how black slims us down a few inches, but it’s a bit too much sometimes. Adding some silver in the mix will definitely rock your look. A pair of House of Ronald pencil cut silver trousers would look beautiful with a basic black top and killer high heels. Don’t want to attract the eyes? Let’s Talk Tiaras The Persian Crown Jewels

Noor-ol-Ain Crown Coronation Crown

The National Treasury of Iran has established the Treasury of National Jewels, which is home to some of the most beautiful jewels in the world, the Persian Crown Jewels. The Crown Jewels of Iran are by far the largest and most extravagant of any collection in the world. The jewels even act as a reserve in the national currency of Iran, Yasmin Tavakoli writes. One of the most intricate and famous pieces is the globe created by order of Nasir Al Din Shah of the Qajar Dynasty. The globe is made of 35kg pure gold and more than 51,000 pieces of emerald, rubies, and diamonds, each representing the sea, land mass and specifically Iran, Britain, France, and parts of Asia. Daryayeh-E-Noor which translates to sea of light is the sister diamond to the worlds largest uncut diamond called Kooh-ENoor which translates to mountain of light. Ahmed Beg stole these diamonds originally made for Nader Shah, upon his assassination in 1747. The larger of the two diamonds was taken to England and presented to Queen Victoria as a gift in 1850. Presently, it rests on one of the British Crowns and is kept in the Tower of London. The smaller of the two remains in Iran.

One of the most historic moments of Persian history is the coronation of Pahlavi, which took place on the Nader Shah throne, set in 23k gold and studded with 26,700 rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. The Crown itself, which was inspired by the Sassassian Dynasty of Iran, is part of the Crown Jewels and has 3,380 diamonds, including a 60 carat yellow diamond center piece. There are also 369 pearls, 5 emeralds, one of which totals 100 carats, and numerous sapphires.

The Coronation of Pahlavi

The Imperial Sword is one of the most precious of the jewels as it measure 103cm and has 3000 emeralds, rubies, diamonds just on the handle! Farah Diba has been known to the world as one of the most elegant and graceful Queens of all time. Her collection of necklaces and royal jewels is befitting to the Empress and is so exquisite some have their own names. In 1959, as she married into the royal family, Farah wore the Noor-ol-Ain crown. The crown holds one of the largest pink diamonds in the world as a centerpiece measuring at 60 carats! There are numerous Tiaras included in the collection. The Taj Kiani was the Crown of Fath Ali Shah and is one of the most beautiful. There are several tiaras as well that were used by Nader Shah Afshar at the base of his crowns as an extra embellishment. One of the most exquisite pieces worn by him is the Nader Aigrette, composed of 781 carats of emerald, and diamonds. This dates back to 1688! The oldest daughter of the last Shah, Shahnaz, also had a beautiful tiara made of emerald and pink diamonds. Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, Princess Fatemeh and Princess Shams also have tiaras displayed among the crown jewels. Some of these tiaras date back to the Qajar Dynasty and were favored among the princesses.

The Tommy Hilfiger Fall Winter 2014 Womenswear collection, The New England, embarks on a coast to coast voyage from the United States to the United Kingdom. The collection celebrates Tommy Hilfiger’s signature all-American aesthetic mixed with hints of quintessential English charm. Classic Brit statements – heritage prints, sartorial sophistication and Savile Row tailoring – are given a heavy dose of Americana spirit, fusing UK tradition with east coast prep for a result that embraces The “New” England in every sense. Featured in this editorial is the first fashion group from the collection, Boston, where inspiration takes from sartorial, collegiate style. Traditional menswear patterns – houndstooth, chalk stripes and glen plaids – are reinterpreted with a feminine twist, from statement blazers to lightweight down jackets. AllAmerican shades of apple red, snow white and midnight blue are offset with modern pops of camel, gray and cabernet. The aesthetic is minimal chic, the silhouette is tailored, and fabrics feature texture-on-texture. YOUR WARDROBE

Chronicles of a Part-Time Styler By Rawan Qabazard

W

hat happens when you cross a punctual engineering student with a fashion obsessed editor who can never make decisions regarding her shoes before 12 p.m.? This happens: Oh god not the shoes again. Having pre-planned my outfit a couple of months in a advance was no help whatsoever. When my mom mentioned we were going to London again at the end of our summer vacation (oh what a surprise mom…) I had an idea to enroll in a couple of summer courses at UAL:LCF a.k.a University of the Arts, London College of Fashion. The first class that caught my attention was “Media & Fashion Styling” and at the end if I passed the test I would become an official stylist! So that was the class I chose for that summer. Now back to my outfit, I ended up wearing black leather leggings from Joseph and a loose gray top from Max&Co, with a leather jacket also from Joseph and my beloved Isabel Marant wedge sneakers. These can automatically pump up a casual outfit by giving you a few extra inches of height. When I looked at the clock I immediately panicked! It was 7:45 a.m. and I had to be at Shepherds Bush by 8:45 a.m. and I don’t think “fashionably late” would be accepted even though it’s a fashion school. I ran out of the hotel room, got in the taxi and said “Good Morning, LCF Shepherds Bush please, I kind of need to be there by 8:45 a.m., can we also stop by a Starbucks on the way?” his face automatically went all red “oh god” I thought. “Get on the tube then I’m not a helicopter I’m just a taxi!” Sorry sir, but what is the tube…? “The SUBWAY” he screamed out. Ok, ok, I get it, someone needs to take a chill pill. I sorted my transportation issue and arrived at Shepherds Bush at 8:30 a.m. Oooh a Starbucks finally! Got my Skinny Vanilla Latte and was off to class. As soon as I entered I was in shock, I thought a fashion school was supposed to be all colorful with models and couture everywhere. I guess not. Our professor (without mentioning names) was an amazing one that knows a lot about fashion and styling. However, with all due respect, this woman doesn’t know how to Nov 94 STYLES 50

about how we were going to set up the studio for the shoot and suddenly this tall skinny girl asks us “excuse me, where is class 104, is it on the 10th floor?” Umm… there are only 5 floors in this building but we neglected to mention that and lead her to the classroom. How ditzy is this person? Well, it turns out she’s our model, go figure.

dress herself! She was in a grungy loose maxi skirt and a loose cardigan with an accessory that seemed like it was stolen from from her grandchild. Anyways, we started talking about storyboards and mood boards etc. Class was interesting lots of people from different places around the world. Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, oh wait that’s all South America. Anyways, as the hours passed I started daydreaming while she went on and on about her experiences but I suddenly heard the words “model”, “photographer”, “photo shoot”. Now that’s interesting! For our final project we were supposed to shoot three different looks for three different projects. An editorial shot for i-D Magazine, a cover for Glamour Magazine, and lastly an Ad for any brand we liked. We were sorted into groups I was placed with two girls, one Mexican, and one from Argentina and they both have a hard time speaking English. Oh my, how are we ever going to communicate… The next few days were filled with planning and directing. Then came the day we were going to meet the model, hair and make-up artists, and our photographer who had worked for British Vogue. How excited were we? We went into class each of us with her latte talking

Now let’s start with the photo shoots. I thought it was all fun and a bit of hard work, it turns out that the models are whiny, the hair and make-up staff have attitude issues, and the photographer thinks she’s God. For the first shoot we needed her hair down and a bit messy, but the hair technician thought that a bouffant would look “classy” it’s i-D Magazine! Classy who? Next, was our cover shoot for Glamour? Cute and sassy was what we were aiming for. A “cute red lipstick” turned into a gothic dark lip that took ages to alter. Last but not least, was our Chanel pearl necklace and earrings set advertisement. We wanted a close-up shot of the model wearing the earrings and I got the idea of transforming the necklace into a headpiece like the ones Mira Duma always wears. All through the 3-hour shoot the model keeps complaining that the headpiece is hurting her head, the photographer isn’t pleased with the lighting, the make-up artist keeps running to the model and powdering her nose, and we were being timed and evaluated all at the same time! God help me, this was supposed to be a fun summer course not a stressful one. In the end, all went well and it was time for our evaluation and guess who got an A and a certificate to prove that… yours truly! I walked out of there happy and proud of myself for getting through this week and actually gaining some experience that will be of use to me in the coming years, but in the meantime… take me shopping please! Until next time… R xx PS: If you’re ever in London, don’t ever ask the taxi driver to stop at the nearest Starbucks on your way, they take it offensively.

F

ounder of Enti Hannah Al-Delaimi, is a Kuwaiti/British designer and fashion blogger that has a passionate drive for fashion. Her love for structure, textures and textiles helped begin her journey to create Enti, Nouriah AlShatti writes. When I first met Hannah, she had an aura about her. Her unique yet understated style was like a breath of fresh London air. She was wearing her signature Enti scarf top paired with denims, patent leather brogues and a wool fedora. Her personality, like her style, was so down to earth you can tell she was comfortable in her own skin. She’s a true reflection of her own brand Enti. Enti came into existence out of the idea of making women feel confident and comfortable in what they are wearing. Hannah explained, “Nowadays, women are very body conscious and sometimes have to deal with their weight constantly fluctuating. The issue of what to wear while getting ready to go out or attending an event can be a bit frustrating when you still want to look effortlessly glamorous, without drawing the wrong attention to your shapely physique. After all, what is life if you can’t enjoy all its aspects?” That’s how she got inspired to create her own line. She wanted to create something that beautifully flows on the female figure, yet still looks chic for today’s woman who’s always on the go. “I wanted to create garments that hang and accentuate in all the right places. So I came up with Enti.” Hannah added. Enti is versatile and functional with a modern fresh look. The brand includes pieces that are practical for everyday wear. Combined with unique designs, Enti pieces are crafted to flatter the female figure. Colorful yet refined, Enti is practical and comfortable yet suitable for all occasions. Women can dress up an Enti piece with killer heels, jewelry and a clutch and are ready for a fab dinner, or dressed down with flats and denim for running errands around town. You can even take Enti into an office environment and pull together a semi-formal look gracefully. Enti understands the needs of the fashionable mother, the stylish daughter, the workaholic and the jetsetter. “In a modern day society, the majority of women are super women. What’s more, she does it all looking fabulous! The nicest feeling is to be able to get everything done without having to change outfits three times a day, with Enti every woman can have the feeling of twenty four hours just zipped by in a blink of an eye.” The Founder said.

Hanna’s love for fashion has been flowing through her heart long before she started her brand Enti. She graduated from the UK with a Diploma in Art & Design followed by a BA in Interior Design. During her foundation year in Art & Design she gained the skills that allowed her to tap into her creative mind and produce a number of designs. One of which was showcased during the College fashion show. After graduating, she began her journey into the fashion industry as the first official Personal Shopper for Topshop Kuwait. During this period she was introduced to Alanoud AlBadr- Founder of Lady Fozazawhere she worked on styling the designer’s Fall/ Winter 2012 campaign. Although, she graduated with a Degree in Interior Design, her relationship with fashion grew to become somewhat of an obsession. “My love for design and creativity combined with fashion is what urged me. One of my favourite designers is Hussein Chalayan. I see him as a legend. His focus on structure and individuality is what caught my eye.” said the designer. Her knowledge of interior design and experience in the fashion industry gave her the tools to start and grow her brand, “Interior design can be similar to fashion design in the sense that they both follow the same seasonal trends, and at the end of the day it’s all about inspiration and structure.” Hannah added. Since the launch, Enti has been gaining tremendous attention and returning customers. As for the future of Enti, she explained that it will continue to serve its successful purpose. Hannah talked briefly about future projects of Enti which might include something for the guys “There are plans of starting a male collection, but I can’t say when yet, stay tuned and hope you like it.” Credits: Photographer: Alexander Qabazard Make-up: Mona Delaimi

Fall Winter 2014 Trends by Ben Matthews, Buying Manager The Buying Process

The buying process begins at fashion weeks where we visit showrooms, book appointments with designers and then place our orders. The runway shows, Instagram and street style play a huge part in our buy and we always consider the customer first and what women actually want to wear. For fall, we tend to consider outerwear, knitwear and boots, which this season had in abundance. Coats ranged from maxi, tailored, belted, blanket, quilted and robed. Chunky winter warmers were also key – there was a real focus on texture, thickness and comfortability, which our customers will love. When it comes to boots, the block heel and knee-high versions were our favourites.

Ben’s 5 Main Trends of Fall Winter 2014 Fairy Tale “I love all of the interweaving themes; from the fantastical and ethereal to the gothic villain in lace and sumptuous velvet. My favourite is Saint Laurent’s little red riding hood look.”

Stellar Designs As usual, Stella McCartney has managed to balance the fine line between trendy and elegance. Her Fall Winter 2014 collection blends between the classic with the modern. While many of the silhouettes were decidedly classic, they were streamlined to fit contemporary styles. Silken corded dresses, shibori tie-and-dye techniques, and digital prints stood out from the collection. The designer also introduced new shapes to her range of arm candy, which had all the makings of an ‘It’ bag.

United Nude was founded by famed Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and seventh generation English shoemaker Galahad Clark, of Clark’s heritage. In 2003, the duo launched their first shoe – the Mobius – and the rest as they say, is history. Koolhaas was inspired to create an architectural tribute to a woman’s foot aided by a broken heart. This single romantic gesture was responsible for the conception of the brand as we know it today. The brand’s signature style is of course inspired by architecture, and its uniquely creative designs set it apart from other designer shoe brands. Fall Winter 2014 Collection ‘A Breath of Fresh Air…’ Mulberry returned to its roots in the British countryside with a blast of fresh air to invigorate the brand’s new and very British Fall Winter 2014 collection with a campaign shot by Tim Walker and starring Cara Delevingne. Mulberry has designed a beautifully classic and very elegant collection for Autumn Winter 2014 with argyle and arran-inspired knitwear and iconic Houndstooth and check, all influenced by traditional British tailoring, textures and prints. Even the footwear references two key British styles – the all-purpose Rain Boot, beloved by country-dwellers and city-commuters alike, and the quintessential lace-up brogue. Fall Winter 2014 bags were inspired by the brand’s interpretation of how to make everyday life feel more beautiful, and how to make beautiful things practical. The new Tessie embodies the mood of simple, unfussy elegance and the Bayswater Buckle evokes memories of Mulberry bags past, as if resurrected from the archives. The Cara Delevingne Collection, infused with Cara’s own cool style, was designed to fit in with whatever the day brings, whether that day is spent in town or country. In fact, Cara and her eponymous bag look as completely at home in a countryside campaign as they did at the London launch at Claridge’s.

Essentials

Wang’s debut performance wear pieces include quick-dry black running tops and perforated laser-cut shorts, each bonded and branded with Alexander Wang in silver mesh. Seamless performance T-shirts, tank tops and crop tops are knitted in a pointelle pattern with a hidden tongue-in-cheek message that becomes visible when worn. Sports bras also feature the Alexander Wang logo on the back or on the wide bands of elastic, while compression crop tops, tights, dresses and bra tops play with logos of different scales.

Performance details are used to create fashion pieces, such as the scuba dress with interwoven layers and a cut-out at the waist with mixed fabrics, or the paneled leggings that create a dynamic patchwork from a technical hounds tooth jacquard and stretch silver reflective. Alexander Wang’s signature experimentation with fabric innovation is seen throughout the collection, especially with the black foaminjected crocodile-patterned sweatshirt, and the scuba sweatshirt embossed with Alexander Wang branding in black and grey mélange. Wang’s understanding of the urban uniform is found in black scuba motorbike sweats and black leather track pants with tear-away press-studs down the sides.

Sport, Performance and Style The Women’s Collection Alexander Wang X H&M for women captures the speed of the city, mixing sports and performance for everyday life. Technical details and fabrics are used for both function and fashion, including Wang’s first ever versatile performance wear wardrobe. The women’s collection includes 38 exclusively designed garments, as well as accessories and a playful take on everyday objects. The result is a collection to be worn on the street and at the gym, the way women live their lives today.

Outerwear Technical outerwear offers utilitarian protection, such as a black seamless welded water-repellent parka with a molded hood curved like a baseball cap. A grey jacquard scuba coat is a winter essential, while black motorcycle jackets come both oversized in scuba wool and as a quilted leather puffer.

Accessories Long scuba gloves, stamped with a reflective logo, jacquard beanies and compression socks with graphic logo treatment complete the outerwear look. Shoes include a high heel of folded down rubberized leather with a scuba sock, a box heel leather boot, or a high-top scuba sneaker. A leather backpack comes with a hidden branded rain cover in reflective silver and a padded drawstring satchel in rubberized leather.

Objects To represent the scale of the Alexander Wang lifestyle and inject a sense of humor, the collection also includes a range of objects, including a yoga mat, a water bottle, towels, sunglasses with an oversized head strap and swim goggles. There are both actual size boxing gloves and those as a mini key ring, a whistle on a two-finger ring, and for the victor, a magnetized Alexander Wang trophy cup. IWC Schaffhausen The Portofino Collection

The Portofino Collection from IWC Schaffhausen has been an expression of understatement and good taste for 30 years. The new Midsize collection now makes the Portofino line from IWC Schaffhausen attractive to watch lovers who prefer a slightly smaller timepiece. With the Portofino Midsize Automatic Moon Phase and the Portofino Midsize Automatic Day and Night, two radiant 37-millimetre beauties available in seven different versions designed to reflect the timeless elegance of the Italian coastal resort join the Swiss company’s watch family. The flagship of the new Midsize collection is the Portofino Midsize Automatic Moon Phase in white gold .The dial; bezel and horns are decorated with a total of 174 pure white diamonds. The jet-black dial has several meticulously applied coats of lacquer and is the perfect backdrop to truly bring out the sparkle of the pre¬cious stones. For the first time ever, the designers have depicted the entire moon phase display as a star-studded night sky, with the moon and stars appearing to float in infinite space. For the dials of the red-gold and stainless-steel versions of the Portofino Midsize Automatic Moon Phase, flawless, gently shimmering motherof-pearl in white and black.

Omega De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” The new Omega De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” is inspired by the beauty found in nature and is an enchanting addition to the Prestige collection. The exquisite butterfly motif on the dial is inspired by Chinese popular culture, which associates the delicate being with love and longevity. The watches in the De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” collection are distinguished by elegant and understated design. These are timeless classics destined to be cherished by the women who wear them. The De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” is available with three dials with exquisite detailing. A selection of models is presented with a mother-of-pearl dial with a diamond-paved butterfly between 7 and 8 o’clock. Other timepieces in this collection are decorated with transferred butterflies with a matt outline against a mother-of-pearl background while a third design found only on the models powered by a quartz calibre - makes use of a silvery or champagne dial whose unique butterfly pattern is achieved using ramolayage, a mechanical guillochage technique that creates a circular brushed finish. All three dial designs are complemented with eight or nine diamond indexes. J/A 91 STYLES 88

Piaget

Extremely Piaget: Dreams in color, woven in gold Out of its legendary period, color-especially when combined with gold-evolved as a design touchstone at Piaget. Pushing the boundaries of jewelry craftsmanship and watchmaking, Piaget introduced new colors and style, and more importantly, perfected the ultra-thin movement, which enabled the use of hard stone dials on watches without compromising the slimness of the cases. Now, the turquoise, opal, heart of ruby, onyx and lapis lazuli of it High Jewelry creations also graced the dials of exquisite Piaget watches. And gold, a House signature, lent a distinctive shimmer to the precious and hard stones across Piaget collections. Using Techniques similar to those used in Haute Couture, Piaget forges gold into shimmering chain mail or iridescent mesh, showcasing its unique goldsmithing know-how. Several machette watches presented in this collection feature hammered gold techniques that give the metal a very powerful presence. Certain High Jewelry models were created using a base of gold worked to the chain mail technique, which gives the metal look of a precious, sparkling fabric. “Piaget time… measured in gold!” This advertising slogan from the late 1970s is as current today as ever.

Longines

Conquest Classic If there is one thing that can make a bride’ special day even more memorable, it is the perfect gift. Sophisticated and refined, the Conquest Classic watches are the most apt and graceful adornments for the wrist of the bride. The Conquest Classic line boasts of the brand’s values of elegance, tradition and performance with all models from this collection being fitted with self-winding calibers, thus making it totally contemporary and perfectly timeless at the same time. Conquest Classic is available in three sizes. The ladies’ models have a diameter of 29.50 mm and show the hours, minutes and seconds as well as the date; they are available in steel, rose gold or in a combination of steel and rose gold. The black or silvered dial has applied 12, 6 and 9 numerals, lending this model a truly sporty look. The various versions are also available with a diameter of 40.00 mm with an extra touch of elegance being added owing to the mother-of-pearl dial set with 12 diamonds. In some models the bezel is also set with 30 diamonds and these models are fitted on black alligator straps or steel or steel and rose gold bracelets, each to match the dial. All straps and bracelets have a folding safety clasp. April 88 STYLES 89

Blancpain

Women Heure Décentrée Seconde Retrograde A true anthem to femininity, this new creation is lit up with the fire of 152 diamonds. Its 36.8 mm- diameter red gold case is exalted by 108 diamonds totaling one carat. This original gem setting composed of two interwoven rows of diamonds in various sizes echoes the emblematic double-stepped case design of the brand, while the diamond adorning the crown lends the ultimate touch of refinement. The white mother-of-pearl dial sprinkled with facetted diamonds features an off-centered hours and minutes sub-dial at 12 o’clock graced with 4 Arabic numerals and drop-shaped cut-out hands, while the Blancpain signature at 6 o’clock delicately highlights the retrograde 30-second indication. A wave set with subtly graded diamonds undulates on either side to ensure a perfect balance.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater The Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater, the first minute repeater watch in a feminine Jaeger-LeCoultre collection. Equipped with a silent regulator to reduce any peripheral sound disturbance of the mechanism, the Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater watch is fitted with two patented trebuchet hammers which strike two crystal gongs connected to the sapphire crystal harder and just once, producing a loudspeaker effect. The Minute Repeater is operated by a single pushbutton replacing the traditional repeater slide system and equipped with a security system which ensures that even if the pushbutton is pressed again while the minute repeater is already in action, the mechanism does not start working again – thereby preventing any damage to the movement. On the white gold dial – designed with a sunburst guilloché motif – the master enameller delicately uses a brush to apply pigments in the form of metal oxides. Several firings in an oven at extreme temperatures are required in order to reveal the delicate blue that perfectly reproduces the night sky above the Vallée de Joux, bathed in moonlight. The master gem setter adorns the ivy leaves with a snow setting – a technique invented by the Grande Maison. Different size diamonds are placed one after another, side by side, completely covering the gold surface. Thus huddled together next to each other as if under a freezing north wind, the gems stud the delicate plant motif with their luminous imprint. Two rows of diamonds on the bezel and push piece echo this precious jewelry craftsmanship. J/A 91 STYLES 90

Hermes

Medor Rose Gold First created in 1993, the Médor watch originated from one of the first objects produced by Hermès alongside the harness: the dog collar. For while a dog is a man’s best friend, it has also always – just like horses – been a source of inspiration for the venerable House. From there it was but a short step from the waists of elegant women to their wrists, which Médor thus adorned in the form of a bracelet. Since one creative idea often leads to another, the leather strap with its iconic “Clous de Paris” pyramid-shaped studs was then transformed into a ‘secret’ watch. The ingenious and slightly mischievous Médor watch has fun with the passing of time by alternately concealing it under a domed cover or discreetly revealing it. This inspired creation comes in several colorful versions. Available in two sizes and graced with gold or steel pyramid studs, the Médor watch may be gem-set along its edges or entirely paved with diamonds, further underscoring the precious nature of this jealously safeguarded time.

Givenchy

Seventeen Watch by Riccardo Tisci Riccardo Tisci presents Givenchy Seventeen: the first in an upcoming series of new Givenchy watches. Each style in the timepiece collection is named after a prime number. Mysterious yet powerful, prime numbers reflect the aesthetic of the Givenchy world. Available in six colour combinations of various cases and dials including black, anthracite, red, green, steel and gold, the Givenchy Seventeen is exclusively available at Paris Gallery and Watch Gallery stores in the UAE. The first watch to be introduced refers to Riccardo Tisci’s lucky number. Givenchy Seventeen shows bold architectural lines with strong graphic elements. But its sophisticated details and soft structure make it a unisex watch playing with the masculine and the feminine. The duality of soft and hard elements and the contrast of a curved edge create a dynamic balance and a unique design. April 88 STYLES 91

Calling

The Influence of British Fashion on the Fashion Industry When working and reading about fashion and what’s trending we come across a term that we think we know the meaning of but we actually don’t. A simple term such as Fashion Capital can mean a lot of things. The definition of the term is “A fashion capital is a city which has a major influence on international fashion trends and in which the design, production and retailing of fashion products- plus events such as fashion weeks, awards and trade fairs- generate significant economic output.” We’ve already come across three other major capitals, which are Milan, New York, and Paris. It’s time to dig deep into British fashion. London, here we come.

J/A 91 STYLES 93

Cover Story

HOLLYWOOD

In the late 16th century, the influence Britain had on fashion was extreme. Starting with the English Royal Court. It chilled for a bit while Spain was shining under the spotlight until the 19th Century when Queen Victoria ascended the throne. Having a young stylish queen has its perks you see! Speaking of royalty, what’s with the “Kate Middleton” effect? And yes that’s an actual term used! The Duchess of Cambridge has been influencing fashion since the day her engagement was announced. From jeans to Jenny Packham dresses, everything she wears seems to have a waiting list after her appearance in it. According to statistics, the Duchess and her “effect” on fashion is worth approximately 1 billion pounds to the UK fashion industry! You know there’s an app you can download called “Kate’s Style List”, yup this is legit. British Fashion Council is a non-profit organization for promoting British fashion worldwide. The chairperson for this organization is Natalie Massenet; their job is to organize London Fashion Week and also the British Fashion Awards. London Fashion Week starts right after New York, before Milan and Paris. Press, editors, and special guests travel across the Atlantic to see these shows having high expectations. It’s up to the British folks to wow the crowd!

J/A 91 STYLES 94

Speaking of Natalie Massenet, how can we not mention her? This name has been heard several times and is quickly associated with the websites Net-A-Porter, Mr Porter, The Outnet, and the most recent net-a-sporter. Nat is an American entrepreneur whose dad was a journalist and then later on became a film publicist, and her mom was a British model for Chanel. Massenet founded net-a-porter at first in London in the year 2000, the concept she was aiming for was a shopping website that was in a magazine format. Easy access for us right? The company was a huge success, as you can see yourself, open any girl’s closet and you’ll find the black boxes stacked! She later sold the company for 50 million pounds to a Swiss luxury goods company but she still has shares and remained involved. A fashion capital isn’t just made of high-end and highstreet designers. It’s what’s going on behind the scenes too. Britain is known for its different styles for different parts of the city. For example, you have the Chelsea girl, London girl, Notting Hill girl, Camden girl etc. Each part of the city has a distinct atmosphere and vibe, which is reflected in its inhabitant style. London is a melting pot of all these different styles and it’s absolutely delightful.

Review of the latest Fall Winter 2014 collections: Sophia Webster Fluffy mules and bejeweled clogs are what Sophia had for us this season. Velvet twinkling sandals that are just beautiful to look at and wear! And what about those phone cases? Just simply glittery!

Vivienne Westwood Definitely inspired by the V&A costumes she had up there; her fall collection was one of our favorites. Westwood turned history into fashion statements with tailcoats and fullskirted tulle.

J/A 91 STYLES 96

Giles From baroque gowns to lugsoled men shoes. We loved the color blocking and the sudden appearance of oversized knits and bird embroidery. After this show we saw a lot of high street stores getting “inspired” by the trends shown.

House of Holland When designer Henry Holland mentioned that he had designed an LBD for the first time, we expected a sort of classic approach to this collection. Forget classic, the opening was a coat trimmed with fur, metallic lime pants and a T-shirt with “Riche Bish” on it! Classic who?

J W Anderson Shapes, silhouettes, and random proportions is what Jonathon Anderson likes to show. Rather than emphasizing the female body, the collection is more about the geometry of the clothes. Sculpted sleeves and built in bustiers seemed to be in and we’re hoping it’ll compliment the wearer. J/A 91 STYLES 97

Cover Story

HOLLYWOOD

Peter Pilotto Prints, prints and more prints! That’s what this brand represents. Coordination is also big when it comes to readyto-wear collections such as tops and skirts with embellishments.

Burberry Prorsum Suddenly everything on the runway looks very bohemian and art-inspired. We love the artsy and relaxed feel that is shown through the clothes and atmosphere. Enough with structure, this winter we’re on “chillax” mode even with fashion.

J/A 91 STYLES 98

Issa

Here we see more modern and sophisticated rather than chaotic and funky. Designer Farrier had paid attention to the types of fabric as well as the silhouette and that’s what we love. From knitwear to statementshoulders and kimono sleeves we love Issa this season!

Preen Frothy print dresses and fur hoods are making a comeback with lame shirt dresses too. We loved the knit skirts and can’t wait to style them this coming winter.

Temperley London Flouncy skirts and blanket-size scarves draped around the models as if it is a cold winter day. We see a lot of Byzantine mosaic patterns which we love because we really do need a bit of color for winter.

Mary Katranzou Shying away from digital prints for now, Katranzou’s collection was more of signs, symbols, and symmetry this season. We loved how some of the pieces were sweeping behind the models, there was something holy about it.

Matthew Williamson

Retiring his boho-inspired style, Williamson wanted something that working women can see themselves wearing. First came the baby blue coat, then a black and white suit, followed by glitter, crystals and prints. We loved how both themes flowed together.

Osman This Moroccan inspired theme was over the top and we loved it. From ornamented tile-pattern brocade to jacquard sweaters, and a few asymmetrical skirts and well-cut pieces too.

NOV 94 STYLES 100

Erdem

The choices of fabric and attention to detail was spectacular, although we didn’t quite love the whole collection. This specific show got a lot of bad reviews but overall we believe that fashion is what you make it to be, you can grab any piece and style it any way you want to.

Mulberry Functional and stylish at the same time, Mulberry has a way of blending those two aspects together. We see the usual structured shirts and suits, with a few pieces that are-oh-so elegant but not so “in your face” which is just what you need when working in a conservative environment.

Joseph Known for their leather and motorcycle jackets, this brand is always one we like to check out especially for winter. This fashion show was a first for this brand as it marks the 25th anniversary of its store’s opening.

While most of us are probably familiar with Celine’s other outrageously popular styles like the Celine Luggage Tote and the Celine Phantom bag, some prefer to collect pieces that aren’t being spotted everywhere. This beauty has the added allure of being one of those exclusive bags with only four pieces available worldwide, all currently found in Celine Mall of The Emirates boutique. This metallic-gold bag is seriously making a statement. We love how its brightness can spark up a basic look. La Plus Belle Salon & Institute

Reinventing Style W

e as women are constantly on the hunt for finding the best hair stylist. In a country where there’s a salon around every corner, it’s a needle in a hay stack trying to find one that you can fully trust. From experience, it’s always a hit or miss when it comes to landing the perfect person that understands your hair and what you want. Many agree that hair plays a big role in how we look. Having a great hairstyle goes a long way in making us feel good, look great and on trend. So when I was invited to discover La Plus Belle Salon and Institute, it was like finding buried treasure that long needed to be discovered, Nouriah AlShatti writes. Le Plus Belle, owned by Suhaila Beiruti, has been specialized in delivering the highest standard in beauty for over fourteen years. Currently located in Miadan Hawalli, they are the only salon/spa in Kuwait with an academic background and international standards when it comes to the services that are delivered to their clients. That’s why La Plus Belle are the pioneers in launching new colors and hairstyles in Kuwait, by offering the best hair trends every season under the professional training of L’Oreal. Mrs. Suhaila is a hero in Kuwait’s beauty industry, where she positions her highly trained stylists as not just merely hairdressers, but image consultants. Under her direction she aims at providing beauty services at the highest standards by customizing each client’s needs for them to achieve the best results. When I asked her the benefits for seeking professional advice from a salon as opposed to using at-home treatments, Suhaila explained “It is very important to have the right hair prescription for your hair type! Many people are using the wrong hair care products, which they purchase at supermarkets or pharmacies. By doing so, one can cause serious damage to the hair, especially when coloring the hair at home. Each hair type varies from woman to woman, which requires different procedures to achieve the desired color. Not only are the chemicals harsh and severe on the hair, the time process to develop color differs for each hair type, and if not done correctly, it can lead to drastic damage. That’s why it’s essential to seek a professional.” For that reason La Plus Belle has a reputation for working with the best products and brands in the market. La Plus Belle’s main focus doesn’t just end at hairstyling and coloring, they pride themselves in being a full fledged beauty center that offers services such as face radiating facials, full body treatments, make-up specialists, picture perfect bridal services for your special day and trained nail technicians. During our chat, Mrs. Suhaila mentioned some exciting news; by the first quarter of 2015 they will be expanding

to the Boulevard, Salmiya at a 3000sqm location. Making it the largest salon/spa in Kuwait. As L’Oreal is the product of choice at La Plus Belle, the new fall winter 2014 collection of cuts and colors were exclusively photographed at Le Plus Belle’s studio by David Arraez, L’Oreal Paris’ main professional photographer. I had the chance to have a chat about the new collection with Veronique Dumaget, Head Hair Stylist for L’Oreal Paris while she was in Kuwait to introduce the new trends in hair colors and hairstyles at La Plus Belle. First, she gave me an overview of the colors that are trending at the moment, which are ash blonde, golden blonde and copper. She mentions that ash blonde can range from light to dark. Those with light blonde hair can get that icy cooled down effect with light ash blonde, while brunettes can try the technique of lightening with dark ash blonde. The result, a subtle cool brown which resembles a beautiful brown sugar shade that’s both beautiful and on trend. Next, is golden blonde. Golden tones are still strong this season, these can also range from light to dark. Clients on the lighter end of the spectrum can go a light caramel gold that beautifully catches the light and bring out a client’s natural glow. While women with darker hair that want to start “going blonde” can ask for a rich caramel gold, which results in a color that serves as a middle ground between brown and blonde called ‘bronde’. The third trending color that Veronique discussed that’s making a hot statement is copper. Yes, copper! Don’t be surprised if you start seeing red this winter. A lot women might shy away from this bold color but with all the variations out there, there’s no reason not to try it out. Women have the option to go subtle with a light copper which results in a warm apricot hue. While on the other side a rich copper color will give you rich deep auburn color that will definitely turn heads this season. Ombre. Over the past years this hair color technique has been on the hot hair trend list. This season ombre is making a soft transition into a more modern on trend look called ‘colored sombre’. Colored sombre as Veronique describes it, is about having depth at the root that gradually goes into lighter tips. Sombre focuses on color gradiation with natural contrast from root to tip, unlike its cousin ombre where the contrast is highly visible. Sombre can be achieved with natural or colored roots with a maximum of three tone-differences on the tips. Every new hair color needs a new hair style and Veronique is not only training La Plus Belle on cutting edge colors but also on dynamic hairstyles that brings out your best features and the best out of your hair color. Top trending cuts and styles are; bangs with natural waves, the lob and the pixie cut. Bangs with long natural waves brings out the best in golden or ash blonde hair colors. The natural light that reflects off the lightened strands gives a natural effect while the bangs give the look a modern edge. The lob, which is a personal

favorite for the fall winter 2014, is a cross between a short bob and mid length hair, hence the name ‘lob’ i.e long-bob. Like the previous style, this look is best worn with loose waves. This hair length will have you reaching great heights with volume like you’ve never seen before. Last but not least, the pixie cut. The pretty pixie can be styled asymmetric if you’re looking for a dramatic update to your look or it can go short and shaggy, to soften up your features. Whether you’re looking to refresh your look or want to go for a total change, it’s time to book your appointment at La Plus Belle to get this season’s most reinvented looks that will have you turning heads all winter long. I’m personally loving the extra mile La Plus Belle has put into making us picture perfect time and time again.

BEAUTY REPORT Get ready, set, moisturize!

1

As the weather is getting cooler, our skin tends to get drier. Flaky, pale skin is a big no-no, especially when rocking the latest Fendi boots. Before heading to the dermatologist, we suggest you try changing up your routine for flawless skin. Just as with clothes, you need to change your beauty routine too as the seasons change. Stay beautiful and hydrated in the cold weather with these simple make-up and cleansing tips.

CLARINS Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster

2

Don’t skip primer, we repeat, do NOT skip priming your skin. Priming seals your pores, softens skin, smooths makeup, and helps make-up stay on longer.

3

Don’t skip sunblock! Even if the sun isn’t out you still need to protect your skin from UV rays. That will decrease your chances of getting wrinkles! Bonus points for not having to save up for early Botox treatments.

J/A 91 STYLES 112

Exfoliate and moisturize regularly. If you are used to exfoliating once a week, increase to two or three times a week especially if you apply make-up on a daily basis. That will leave your skin glowing. Apply moisturizer throughout the day to keep the moisture locked.

Switch from powder to cream or liquid foundation. Again, it’s all about moisture moisture and more moisture! Powders can make the appearance of your face too dull, liquid or cream foundations give your face a certain radiance that we love.

5

The same idea as foundation, switch from powder eye shadows to cream eye shadow to make it last longer and hydrate at the same time.

Hydrating lipsticks, we don’t want to see any chapped lips ruining the look! A number of brands have specific lipsticks that hydrate but if you want a specific color that you didn’t find, apply a moisturizing lip balm 15 minutes before applying your lipstick. Keep applying it every few hours.

Yasmin Othman: Growing up in Melbourne, Australia, I used to spend a lot of time in the city, so I remember spotting a few people walking by with what we call “street” style. They would really stand out and their style was definitely not influenced by the trends at that period of time, but true personal style. I think nowadays, it’s hard to find true “street “style, most people are influenced by/or imitate trends that they see on the runways, blogs or on celebrities, more than their individual style.

I sure don’t. New products and techniques are always popping up making it effortless for women to be comfortable in their own skin and feel beautiful. The Search for the Best Anti-Aging Product Ends Here! Introducing the new No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serums

The most coveted anti-aging cream on the market just got even more powerful. This month, Boots will be launching their new and reengineered No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serums. We had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Mike Bell, Boots Skincare Scientific Advisor on the new developments and advancements of our long-time favorite anti-aging products, Nouriah AlShatti writes. Styles: Talk to us about the new no7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serums. Dr. Mike Bell: We will be launching our new innovation in wrinkle technology, which is two new serums; Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum and Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum. The first serum Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum is for fine lines and the early signs of aging for women between the ages 25-35 years old. The second serum, Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum which is for deeper lines and wrinkles is ideal for women between the ages of 35-45 years old. The original serum has been on the market for a number of years but we’ve reengineered them, to make them more powerful than ever before and more effective in terms of improving appearance of lines and wrinkles. Styles: How long until we see results? Dr. Mike Bell: You’ll start seeing the benefits of using our new serums very quickly. In just mere weeks you’ll notice improvements in general skin aging concerns such as lines and wrinkles, evenness of skin texture, evenness of skin tone, skin smoothness and skin radiance. In terms of proper deep repair of the skin structure, this does take a few months to change because it requires biological processes. The longer you use the product the better the results. Our clinical studies have shown that over a six month period of using the serums, wrinkle improvements get better and better with time. Styles: What are the new developments and advancements in the new serums? Dr. Mike Bell: There are a number of areas that we’ve improved on; first, we’ve increased the concentration of our active with a powerful peptide blend that includes greater quantities of Matrixyl 3000. A blend with more than 30 times more peptide than the original serums. This is important because the peptides are the driving force behind the repair of skin structure that’s been damaged through the aging process. The second improvement is that we’ve boosted the protection. The products are called Protect & Perfect Advanced, therefore we’ve boosted the protection with a patented antioxidant complex to help protect the skin from unstable free radical molecules combined with inhibitors of enzymes that cause break down of structural proteins in ageing skin. The third area, we’ve optimized the delivery system. It’s not all about the actives; it’s also about the delivery system that they are in. We’ve optimized the delivery system to allow the actives to penetrate into the skin more affectively. The fourth improvement for Protect & Perfect Advanced is we’ve included salicylic acid (an ingredient for the younger consumer product, Protect & Perfect Advanced) to help with fighting blemishes and achieving clearer skin. We know the younger consumer still worries about blemishes; we don’t want them to have to compromise between using an anti-spot product and an anti-aging product. As for Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced, instead of the salicylic acid ingredient we’ve included hyaluronic acid for its extra firming properties.

Dr. Mike Bell Styles: What sets No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serums apart from other anti-aging brands in the market? Dr. Mike Bell: Boots, our own retail store allows us to understand what people are buying. I really believe that we understand the consumer better than anyone else. I’m a scientist, but I don’t spend all my time in a laboratory looking under a microscope, I’m out there with the consumers as well trying to understand what their needs are. We have many research programs around the world and it is all about the rigor we put into our testing to prove that our products really do work. Consumer understanding and rigor sets us apart from the rest. There’s a perception that the more you pay, the better the product will be, and it’s just simply not true. For us, we believe you don’t have to pay a lot of money to get great results. I want all women to afford the technology in our products. Styles: What skincare advice would you recommend for women that live in a dry and hot climate like Kuwait? Dr. Mike Bell: I’m not an expert on Kuwait’s climate but I can imagine from where it’s positioned it can get very dry, especially with the desert conditions. Using a good moisturizer is really important. Also, I’ve noticed that people often neglect the body, especially the hands. I’ve come across a number of people with beautifully conditioned faces but completely disregard the hands. I think it’s really important that whatever regimen you do with your face, make sure to apply the same on the hands and body.

Styles: What’s the best regimen for using the serums? Dr. Mike Bell: After cleansing, apply the serum before your preferred day cream. Then at night, apply your serum again before your night cream. And that’s for the best results; serum, day cream, then serum, night cream. Oct 93 STYLES 122

Arlesienne L’Occitane Presents its New Fragrance The Arlesienne, this radiant woman from the South of France, has inspired the painter Vincent Van Gogh, the poet Frédéric Mistral and the fashion designer Christian Lacroix. It’s time for L’Occitane to honor this unique and beautiful woman, in a new fragrance with a unique floral bouquet. Saffron flower, rose, violet... The new fragrance is the synthesis of three floral notes that here reveal unexpected facets: temperament, grace and mystery. Its secret? The subtle combination of saffron and mandarin top notes, the freshness of rose and lily of the valley in heart notes, and sensual sandalwood, violet and tonka bean for base notes. The bottle, engraved with flowers, and colorful case are inspired by the lively dance of the Arlesienne. To complete your wish list, L’Occitane has also created a complementary collection of products echoing the original fragrance. Body oil, beautifying powder. shower cream, hand cream, scented soap... sign your skin with this superbly feminine perfume.

The Fragrance In her wake, this woman leaves a distinct trace of her presence. you can still hear the whisper of fabrics; still smell the lingering trail of a new fragrance. three floral notes, each one like a trait of her character, fuse together: the fiery temperament of saffron, the grace of rose, and the mystery of violet.

Permanent Products To satisfy all your desires, L’Occitane imagined a woman who has everything of the Arlesienne. Beautiful, satiny, velvet soft powdered skin, perfumed hands, irresistible lips; and created this collection for you. Sweet aura that seems to fuse with the warmth of her skin.

he English capital is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Whether for shopping, exploration, business, or cultural curiosity, this city attracts millions each year. What is great about the city is that there are so many monuments around that it is unavoidable. Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the Queen, is in the middle of the city and is great to see even if you don’t feel like going in. The London Eye is great for those wanting to see all of what London has to offer by taking in the city views; including Houses of Parliament, London Bridge, and Big Ben. Most important on the list of site seeing is Westminster Abbey, which is home to one of London’s most famous landmarks. The intersection of Oxford Street and Park Lane hold the famous Marble Arch, designed by John Nash. Just a few minutes up, you can find great shopping or head the other direction towards some of London’s most famous hotels and teatime spots. I personally love the Dorchester and the Wolseley for afternoon tea. Walton Street just behind Harrods has some great restaurants and is a great place to meet before dinner. Or for more shopping choose from Bond Street, New Bond Street, Regent Street, Oxford Street, Soho, or Covent Garden. Whatever you’re looking for you can certainly find between all these areas. If you have some time to venture out of the city, head to Wimbledon, which is host to the world’s oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament.

he city of castles is the capital of Wales, and is known to have the most-green space per person in the United Kingdom. With 5 different castles within the city’s boundary, Cardiff is a wonderful place to experience some history and culture. Castell Coch is one of the most beautiful castles in the region, resembling a fairytale castle nestled on the hill overlooking the valley. Cathays Park has been said to be the world’s most beautiful civic center, as it is comprised of a series of white stone buildings in the middle of the luscious Alexandra Gardens. The Cosmeston Medieval Village is a real medieval village that still functions just outside of Cardiff. It is something quite rare and beautiful and definitely worth seeing. The most grandiose castle is by far Cardiff Castle. The foundations of the Castle are based upon a Roman Fort, and the castle remained to be the home of the Marquis of Bute in the 1800s. The Point, once a church, is now the main music venue in the bay and overlooks the old merchant’s quarter. The most interesting part about the city is that there are 8 Victorian arcades in the city center, all of which are comprised of shops, cafes, and souvenir boutiques. One of the most beautiful of the arcades is the Morgan Arcade, which is quite ancient while exuding a modern feel. Queen Street on the other hand has some popular name brands and is a bit more contemporary.

he Scottish capital commonly referred to as Auld Reekie, is a city that uses its ancient backdrop as a canvas for the modern. The most famous landmark in the city is Edinburgh Castle, which serves as a royal fortress in the highest point of the city for the past 1000 years! The ruins of the Craigmillar Castle are also a gorgeous site to see and are not far from the Holyrood Park. Because it is quite east of the city center, be sure to take a car or arrange for a taxi beforehand to pick you up. Additionally, the Abbey and Palace of Holyroodhouse is a wonderful royal residence that contains a royal collection of art. A tourist favorite is Mary’s King’s Close in Old Town. This vastly shows off the medieval history and is said to be haunted since its closing in the 1700s! If you don’t mind taking a walk, the hike along Calton Hill is a great idea to see some of the most famous landmarks while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Arthur’s seat, an extinct volcano, is also a great place to walk around and take in views of the city. For some souvenirs you might want to go to the Royal mile, where you can pick up some traditional Scottish kilts. The Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle is home to various sacred manuscripts and early texts. The oldest building in the city is the Christ Church Cathedral, which was built in the 11th century. The cathedral even has a crypt, which is said to predate the construction of the cathedral. To get away from some of the hustle and bustle of the city, check out Merrion Square. This square is one of the largest in Dublin and is lushly green. It even has a statue of the famous Oscar Wilde, including several of his most famous quotes. If you enjoy the theater then the Gaiety Theatre is a must while visiting. This theatre is the oldest in Dublin and hosts operas, ballets, dance, and drama. For sports lovers, Croke Park and Aviva Stadium are a great place to watch a match between March and November. You can also watch rugby matches at the RDS arena and then pass through one of Dublin’s various arts museums. For shoe lovers, you can find a wide array of shoe stores on Grafton Street. The whole area was recently named an ‘Architectural Conservation Zone,’ so you will be sure to find some beautiful architecture while you shop.

Keep the Bond Strong Relationship Tips for Him and Her by Yalda Golsharifi

Tips For Her

1

Support his dream. Find out what he loves, men are motivated by passion towards what they want to buy. Whether it’s a house, a car or an ultimate goal. Chances are you already know what his goals are. Go online and find something related to his ultimate vision and buy it for him. If he loves cars, buy him a model car of the one he likes, if it’s a house he is aiming for, customize a key for him with a tag in the location he loves. This simple gesture will tell him that you support his dream and you are his partner towards achieving his

2

desires. Men have a much bigger ego than women, although it may not seem this way nowadays but they do. They identify themselves with the things they own, believe it or not, in his mind, you are also his property. Compliment his belongings and you are directly complimenting him. This doesn’t mean you should compliment yourself! But if he likes the way he dresses compliment his clothes, watches or anything he is looking to buy. It will mean more to him than you think.

3

Let him own a piece of his passion. If he has a birthday coming up, buy him a stock in a company he loves. If he rides bikes, maybe a share in Harley Davidson. Speak directly to your bank and they can help you arrange it. It wont cost a thing, $100 dollars tops but you are giving him ownership of a brand he loves, what better way to show him how much you care about the things he cares about.

Tips For Him 1

Release your stress on her. Unlike men, women are able to handle your complaining without getting too effected. This is why they complain so much, in her point of view its harmless. If you are having a hard day at work you will be surprised how well she will listen if you call and vent for a while. It could be a big stress reliever for you and knowing that she is an essential part of your day will make her feel closer to you than ever.

2

Subscribe to a flower service. We know how busy you are, we never understand why but we have come to expect less from men these days. You will find that many flower shops have a monthly service. Choose random days of the month and have something symbolic delivered to her. It will save you a lot of time and headache but you are paying for a headache free way to remind her how much you love her all month. For an A+ husband score, add a different note to the flowers which you can give them beforehand for the whole month.

3

Go for a drive to nowhere. There is great symbolism in driving by each other’s side, take a random cruise once a week where you talk about your goals as a couple. Don’t tell her why it’s being done in a car, but subconsciously you will both feel like you are on the same journey in your life. A beautiful way to get back in touch with your lifelong partnership once a week. Try to have a romantic music collection to set a romantic mood to make you feel more connected.
