New Elective Offered at CCA Mrs. Kreamalmeyer is the cooking class teacher for the second and third quarters this year. She teaches during second period every day of the week with only five students this quarter and nine students next quarter. This year is the first time Mrs. Kreamalmeyer has ever taught here. Lead Story Headline

So far, there have been no accidents involving bodily harm, but there were a few spilled pots and dishes. Mrs. Kreamalmeyer grades her students both by their performance or participation and also by giving them

quizzes on food terms. One of the challenges she faces in the class is trying to cook within the time frame she has. She cannot cook food that take a long time, like breads. She gets some of her recipes from cooking shows and online recipes from allrecipes.com. Mrs. Kreamalmeyer likes this school and she says, “I believe the students are enjoying the class so far.” Dyllan Schwend, senior and cooking class student says, “It’s an easy class to take.” She enjoys learning new foods to cook like toffee crescent

A Hunger for God By Destiny Holmes, guest writer

All my life, I have considered myself a Christian. I always understood the Bible, and the gospel and the story of what God did for us. I went to church and knew all the stories, but I never actually pursued God. I thought that as long as I knew I was forgiven and going to heaven, I didn’t need to do anything else or know God as a personal friend. I realized that I didn’t actually have a real love or hunger for God. This disturbed me; I didn’t know where to go from there. I finally found out that if I want a real relationship with Him, I had to pursue Him. You can’t just expect someone to Page 2

Kansas City Basketball Trip By Ryle Caler, junior

On November 10-12, both the Lady Warriors and Warriors basketball teams went to Kansas City, Missouri to compete in a local tournament there. Sixteen teams showed up for this tournament; eight girls’ teams and eight boys’ teams. Everyday, both Warrior teams faced one team. Although the Lady Warriors put up a good fight, they lost all three of their games, coming in 8th. The Warriors had a bit more luck, winning their season opener 64 to 57 against Centerplace. The Warriors, coming off their first game win, played hard against Kansas East 1, but lost the game 73 to 43. The third game came down to a last second three point shot by junior JJ Russell, who celebrated a little bit too hard and gave himself a buttocks contusion and strained groin. Although he won’t be able to play for the next two weeks,

his sacrifice gave his team the 3rd place trophy. When freshman Alyssa Galloway and senior Belle Granados walked onto the court to begin their high school basketball careers, they were very happy to not recognize anyone. For freshman Jerrica Russell and her junior brother JJ, it was just the opposite. However, both Russells put aside their fears for the good of the team. “At first I had a little fear, but I knew that if my team saw me scared, then they would be really terrified. I had to show confidence so we could win,” were JJ’s words on the subject. Off of the court, both basketball teams enjoyed some downtime, a chance to hang out with their teammates, and a chance to enjoy Kansas City. For the boys, there seemed to be too much downtime, but for the girls, there wasn’t enough.

Lady Warriors Basketball By JJ Russell, junior

The CCA Lady Warriors are starting off a new season. In previous seasons the girls have struggled to find success and become a real team. This year they look to turn things around. They have a new coach, new equipment, and new team members. The Lady Warriors’ new coach this year is Randy Roderick. Coach Roderick taught at Plaza Heights Christian Academy in Blue Springs, MO, and coached their girls’ basketball team. The reason he was led to CCA was because his wife got a job offer in St. Louis, so they moved here from Kansas City, MO. He wants his team to be committed to each other. He said his goals for the team are to “get better everyday, beat teams that play like us and surprise the better teams.” The team consists of senior Belle Granados, junior Jessi Roche, sophomores Claire Corpus and Chrissy Woods, freshmen Jerrica Russell, Anna Mitchell, Alyssa Galloway and Leann House, eighth grader Kaitlyn Gibbs, Volume 3, Issue 3

Who is Kent Luster? Most of the students at CCA would answer that question by pointing or shrugging. Does anyone really know Kent? Kent came to CCA five years ago, brought by his parents and Jesus. That moment when he first stepped through the doors has remained in his mind as his favorite memory. Whether in or out of school, Kent’s favorite thing to do is to talk with his friends. When he munches on fried chicken, his favorite food, he likes to listen to his favorite song, “How He Loves” by the David Crowder Band. Kent’s favorite colors are purple, black, and green, and his favorite sports are volleyball and track. Biology is Kent’s favorite subject, so it comes as no surprise that he plans to attend SLU as a pre-med student. He will miss his friends and chapels the most, and to all the students he will be leaving behind, he left this quote: “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Boys’ Basketball By Austin Schwend, sophomore

Tim says “We are gonna be a running team this year, so we work them hard,” so the boys’ team will practice on weekdays for two hours from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., except on Wednesdays for only one hour from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. “The boys will practice on Saturdays, if they don’t work hard The AccLaIM
