To provide specialist further and higher education programmes in Art & Design and related areas as a centre for creative excellence. CCAD Mission Statement

Welcome Welcome to Cleveland College of Art & Design (CCAD) – the only learning establishment of its kind in the North East and the perfect setting from which to launch any number of exciting careers in design and the arts. We have been the top performing College in the North East at Level 3 (‘A’ Levels and equivalent) for the last four years running. That’s not because we take the most able students. Our contextual value added results, showing the progress that our students make after GCSEs, placed us in the top twenty schools and colleges out of more than 2,600 in the country - for the third year running. More than nine out of every ten students who complete a Level 3 qualification with us will go on to study at degree level. It’s no surprise that our most recent Ofsted inspection, which judged the College to be outstanding, praised many aspects of our work from the quality of student support and the variety of our curriculum to the high standard of our specialist teaching. At degree level we were rated fourth for overall student satisfaction out of 290 colleges and universities in the latest National Student Survey – and our response rate was over 80%. In the last year we have bought and refurbished two superb listed buildings in Hartlepool for our degree programmes and have expanded our student social space with a new refectory due to open this month. We also plan to build new space at our Middlesbrough campus in 2011 to significantly enhance student social space and facilities, including an enlarged and refurbished learning resource centre and the creation of additional studio areas. Despite these improvements, and the provision of industry standard equipment, what’s really important to us is that our students enjoy their time with us and are supported to achieve the very best results that they are capable of. We expect that they will look back on their time with us fondly and we are sure that the skills that they gain will stand them in good stead throughout their careers. This brochure shows some of the exceptional achievements that our students have recorded, as well as including case studies that spotlight some of our successful students of recent years. I hope you enjoy finding out about their stories.

KEY for league tables (a) Value added uses a benchmark score of 1000 to measure how well students have progressed from GCSE to A-level or their equivalent. For schools and colleges who achieve 1000, this shows that the value they add to a student is in line with their expectations and that such students have realised their potential. Scores above this figure mean students, on average, have overachieved, scores below 1000 have underachieved. (b) Average point score per student means the total grades each student achieved in total. The higher the points, the better the student did across every qualification taken. (c) Average point score per exam means the average grade students achieved for each exam. The higher the points, the higher the grade
