At CCAD we have a BTEC Diploma to suit all levels of ability allowing students the opportunity to progress to university or into industry. Our BTEC Level 1 Diploma lasts for one year and offers students with no prior academic qualifications the opportunity to achieve the equivalent grades to progress to Level 2. Our BTEC Level 2 Diploma also lasts for one year and requires entry levels of 3 GCSEs at grade D-G or above (or equivalent). This course results in the equivalent grades required to progress onto Level 3 (if the required Maths and English grades have also been achieved). Our Level 3 Extended Diplomas are two year courses requiring entry levels of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent, including Maths and English) and a portfolio of work. These courses allow students to gain in-depth knowledge of their chosen creative pathway. Successful completion of a Level 3 course will give the skills and qualifications to progress onto a range of degree courses or to go directly into industry. 15

Successful completion of Level 1 will allow progression onto Level 2. Successful completion of Level 2 may allow progression onto a specialist BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma within the College (depending on completion of Level 2 course AND necessary Maths and English qualifications) or entry into employment.

Graphic Design

This course offers students the opportunity to become commercial and highly employable ‘creative problem solvers’ in graphics, illustration or associated industries.

In 2012/13 industry clients set over 30 live briefs and students also enjoyed the benefits of educational visits and successfully taking part in industry led competitions.

The course teaches what the design industry needs, not what education thinks it needs, yet still maintains the very highest educational standards. We are a grade one course producing grade one students.

Students discover how to turn hand-rendered experiments into professional outcomes using dedicated, state of the art, Apple Mac computer equipment inline with industry standards.

What do you enjoy most about your course? I think being on the A-Level pathway allows you to develop a really broad and diverse range of skills, you get to focus on a variety of creative projects led by experienced lecturers who are very supportive and friendly. Having a range of lessons also allows you to cross skills from one course to another, for example I have used graphic design skills within textiles by creating kaleidoscope like patterns on Photoshop.
