COMMITTED TO SUPPORT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS Cleveland College of Art & Design is committed to providing a range of support services to help students. The College recognises that all learners are different, have individual needs and may require help in order for them to take full advantage of their time at college. All students are allocated a Student Support Adviser who will offer support for any nonacademic issues. This can include issues with travelling to College, finding accommodation, financial difficulty, personal issues that might prevent the student from attending or making progress, health, childcare, or identifying learning difficulties or physical disabilities that might need additional support. CCAD will also keep you involved. You can visit us at one of our many open events and speak to the course leader, or contact the personal tutor for a report on your son/daughters progress. We have Information Evenings throughout the academic year to ensure that you are up-to-date on student progress.

10

“You instantly fit in - Sean Vincent, Graphic Design

SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS You will be allocated a Student Support Adviser who is available to provide you with advice and support on any non-academic issues. This can include your finances, your ability to attend or travel to college, discussing problems you might have outside college or any other worries you may have. Your Student Support Adviser is also able to refer you to other agencies outside the college when this is appropriate. If you disclose a learning difficulty, long term health condition, mental health condition or a disability, Student Support will contact you to discuss your support needs. This may include referral to an Additional Support Lecturer or to the college Disability Adviser for a more in depth discussion or assessment of your needs. For full information on disability support, please contact Student Support on (01642) 298821 and ask to speak to the Disability Adviser.

If you have particular personal issues that you want to discuss in depth with someone, the college provides a confidential Counselling Service with a professionally qualified Counsellor. The College has access to the National Residential Bursary Scheme. This award is available to full time FE students who wish to attend Cleveland College of Art & Design but live at a distance that makes daily travel unreasonable and the course is not available nearer to your home address. The award can either help you financially to live in locally rented accommodation or can help towards excess travel costs. The College also has Learner Support Funds, which may help with your ‘on course’ costs if you have evidence of financial difficulty that is impacting on your studies.

FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK & TWITTER WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/WEARECCAD WWW.TWITTER.COM/C_C_A_D

To support your study the college has well equipped Library and Information Technology (IT) areas that provide excellent research, learning and development facilities. These facilities are specifically geared towards art and design subjects and include specialised books, CDs, online resources, DVDs, magazines & periodicals. The College is committed to ensuring that we: - Provide a safe environment for young people to learn in - Identify young people who are suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm, and take appropriate action to see that such young people are kept safe, both at home and at the College. For further information please ask to see our Child Protection Policy. For further information on any of the above please contact Student Support on (01642) 298821 or via studentservices@ccad.ac.uk where someone would be pleased to help.

“the interviews are really relaxed and informal. It ’s a good chance to learn more about the course ” - Kayleigh Webster, Graphic Design

INTERVIEW/PORTFOLIO Interviews normally start in January. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible, in order that you have access to your portfolio. An initial assessment and guidance interview will be arranged for you to have the opportunity to find out which course best suits your needs. We promise to interview any student who applies for one of our courses. At interview you will be asked general questions regarding your application to us, some questions about yourself, your inspirations and aspirations, and we ask students to bring a portfolio of their work to discuss. The most important thing about this interview is to be yourself. The idea behind your interview is to show us the kind of things you are interested in, for us to see how passionately you talk about your work and to help us make sure we find the best course to suit you. A portfolio is individual to every student and it is difficult to tell you exactly what it should consist of, as you will all have individual styles and will have been taught to produce work in different ways.

FEES & CHARGES We encourage you to bring anything that you feel will help your application to the College. A portfolio should be prepared in a logical order. Make note of what you want to say regarding each piece of work. As a basis we would like to see evidence of drawing skills. Everything from a simple still life pencil sketch to hand rendered colour work. Sketchbooks are also welcomed as these give us the opportunity to see how you develop your ideas, and interpret any briefs that you are given. You may also like to bring evidence of design and craftwork you have created.

All full-time FE students under the age of 19 on 31st August will have their tuition fee and examination fee remitted in full for the duration of the course. All FE students under the age of 25 on 31st August who attempt a full level 2 or a full level 3 qualification for the first time will have their fees remitted in full. Students of any age who attempt a full level 2 qualification for the first time will have their full fees remitted.
