Graphic Design is an exciting and dynamic degree course driven by its links to cutting-edge industry. The programme focuses on visual communication at its core, through branding, typography, print making, advertising, social media and motion graphics. From the moment you arrive, you are part of a design studio, immersed in the creative and experimental practices of design.

Collaborative projects, placements, live projects and opportunities to participate in international visits are central to your creative development during your studies as an emerging graphic designer. You will have opportunities to incorporate photography, print, illustration and animation skills as you develop your personal voice as a designer and your creative practice. You will be part of our design community, working with like-minded creatives on exciting and innovative briefs, all of which will help you become a diverse, visual communicator.

During the programme you will be encouraged to submit to national and international competition briefs, working with sponsored clients such as Nike, Teen Vogue, Giffgaff and Google. Regular industry projects and guest speakers will enhance your portfolio and learning. For example, our graphic design students recently completed a large-scale mural for the BBC 1’s Big Weekend with graphic artist Jimmy Turrell.

Developed directly with the industry to ignite the mind of the true creative thinker, this course will develop and refine your skills as a digital designer through branding, digital advertising, campaign and social media design, animation and motion graphics, app development and brand communication.

With problem solving, consumer- driven strategy, digital campaigns and social media, you will explore the full life-cycle of a product or service from concept though to market. As a graduate, you leave us primed for your exciting life as an innovative digital designer, adept in leading valuable design and digital practices. Developed in close conjunction with our BA (Hons) course in Graphic Design, the BA (Hons) Digital Design course offers digital campaign and commercially focused briefs through shared modules. Throughout your three years of study, you have access to a wide range of industrystandard equipment, software and iMacs in our large design studio.

During the programme, you are be encouraged to submit to national and international competition briefs, such as those set by Design & Art Direction (D&AD), Young Creatives Network and You Can Now (YCN).

Regular live projects and guest speakers from the industry will enhance your portfolio and learning. Collaborative projects and placement opportunities are encouraged during your study to establish yourself as an emerging designer within this growing and fast-paced industry. You have the opportunity to learn about and incorporate other subjects into digital design such as photography and 3D design.

There is the creative freedom to experiment with exhibition design and collaborate with other programmes to enhance your portfolio, as well as engage in live project work from leading international design and advertising agencies, which have included, Visualsoft Ecommerce, Luxxlabs, LSM, 88 Design, Boho Zone & Narrative. Once you have developed your base knowledge within graphic design, you can build your own direction as you begin to specialise in your chosen field.

Your final year will be more industry-focused as you begin independent and self-directed projects, developing your individual style as a designer.

The Interior Decoration & Styling programme will immerse you in the stylish world of interior design with an emphasis on aesthetic and ambient design, for a range of interior, private and public environments.

Progressing within our visual arts department, you will study a range of specialist modules from style curation, technical drawing and 3D software to product development and surface design.

We are very excited to introduce this new course where you will develop your distinctive design style and specialist portfolio while exploring a range of interior challenges from residential to commercial designs. Embracing consumer trends and exploration of various materials for decorative interior environments, you will gain experience in a variety of settings from domestic, retail, exhibition, hospitality and public spaces.

Work in dedicated studios with industry specialists and creative technicians to develop your understanding of trend, interior textiles, finishing and style curation.

Room Design Artist Impression

As an interior stylist and decorative designer you’ll have have opportunities to become involved in other programmes to develop your creative ambition, enabling you to develop your expertise in a range of disciplines such as upholstery, textiles, product and spatial composition.

Throughout the programme, working closely with industry to hone your skills and your ambitions, you can create a portfolio that is individual to your specialism. There will be opportunities to explore the future of interiors, historical contexts, manufacturing processes, material exploration and interior decoration – communicating culturally, socially and ethically with an audience. Students are encouraged to collaborate and engage in work placements and competition opportunities to develop a distinctive portfolio and self-promotion.

Using our specialist well-equipped studios and workshops, you will develop design and technical skills in screen-printing, dyeing, hand and machine embroidery, digital print, laser-cutting, fabric manipulation and making skills while working on live and collaborative projects.

This inspirational, innovative and vibrant degree offers exceptional studios, workshops and resources – including your very own individual studio bay – which will allow you to surround yourself with inspiration. You’ll develop design and making skills to equip you for a role within this dynamic industry, whether you choose to follow a path into employment or self-employment. Design opportunities include interiors, fashion, gifts, stationery, table-top and bedding. This course offers a range of niche skills that will be transferable to a wide range of creative industries, such as teaching, community arts, buying, styling and visual merchandising.
