Why would you consider an art and design course anywhere else when you can attend a specialist art and design college like us? Our studios are equipped with the very latest, professional standard resources from state of the art Apple Macs to laser cutters and stop-motion animation cameras. Alongside our course specific facilities, we have a range of other areas on campus, which enhance the learning and overall college experience. These areas include: IT Facilities Our IT facilities are excellent with cutting edge operating systems and software. We have expert technicians and on course technician demonstrators on hand to answer student questions. Library We have an outstanding Library containing 25,000 books, dozens of specialist contemporary magazines and a wide range of art and design DVDs. The Library is constantly evolving and currently offers a growing array of online resources accessed via our virtual learning environment (Moodle). These include ebook platforms, databases, images and journals/magazines.
The Library boasts its own open access computer suite with scanning, printing and photocopying facilities and a team of knowledgeable staff who help students to find the right information and references to aid their studies. Art Café Students can enjoy breaks and lunchtimes in our Art Café, which offers a variety of food from early morning cooked breakfasts to hot lunches. Hot and cold snacks and drinks are available throughout the day and all prices are subsidised to ensure you get value for money. The Art Café also has vending machines placed around the College for students’ convenience. Art Box We also have an on-site shop called the Art Box which sells a wide range of art and design materials at discounted prices. If this isn’t enough, every student coming to CCAD receives a student welcome pack containing course specific art equipment. This is incredibly popular with students as we pass on the savings from buying supplied in bulk, making it cheaper to buy the best paper, brushes, pencils and other materials.

We offer students the opportunity to study in ways which are complementary to their learning style. If you prefer to be assessed through coursework, we have a range of BTEC diplomas. If you prefer a study route which involves examinations, we offer the A-Level route for students. We also allow you to keep your options open as you can study a mixture of art and non-art subjects.

STUDENT LIFE Our students have the opportunity to get involved with a number of activities and events including trips, visits and leisure activities, all designed to fit around their studies. Recently these have included: Trips to London, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Disneyland Paris and Harrogate Fun sports events and running club Visits to the cinema, parties etc. Students can also get involved in our CCAD Radio Station. This is broadcast throughout the College and gives students the chance to present their own shows.

LEVEL 1 & 2 At CCAD we have a BTEC Diploma to suit all levels of student allowing them the opportunity to progress to university or employment. Our BTEC Level 1 Diploma lasts for one year and offers students with no prior academic qualifications the opportunity to achieve the equivalent grades to progress to Level 2. Our BTEC Level 2 Diplomas also last for one year and require entry levels of GCSE Maths and English minimum grade E or Functional Skills Entry 3. This course may result in the equivalent grades required to progress onto Level 3.
LEVEL 3 Our Level 3 Extended Diplomas are two year courses requiring entry levels of 4 GCSEs A*-C including maths and English minimum D and a portfolio of work. These courses allow students to gain in depth knowledge of their chosen creative pathway. Successful completion of a Level 3 course will give the skills and qualifications to progress onto a range of degree courses or to go directly into industry.

BTEC Edexcel Diploma Level 1 / BTEC Edexcel Diploma Level 2
ART & DESIGN These courses offer students who have not yet achieved or need to build on their academic qualifications the chance to gain the equivalent of four GCSEs through an exciting and creative range of 2D and 3D art and design subjects such as painting, drawing, sculpture, making, graphic design, surface design, fashion and 3D design. Students will be shown how they can express individual ideas and thoughts through a wide range of art and design skills and techniques. They will create a portfolio of work that will reflect their unique potential within art and design and enable them to study further or gain employment. Students will also explore the work of other artists and designers and learn how they have made a career in art and design. This work is supported by educational visits to galleries and cultural centres such as London. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in industrial led projects and competitions. All of this is managed by highly creative and experienced tutors who will support and help students to develop their skills in art and design as well as helping them to gain confidence on both a personal and creative level. Tutors will also ensure that students receive the right support and guidance to progress to further courses or employment Our studios are creative and stimulating places to

work. We have excellent resources and space that ensures each student can develop their skills and talent to create original pieces of art and design in a safe, comfortable and spacious environment. Both Level 1 and Level 2 are established and outstanding courses. Duration: Level 1 – One Year Level 2 – One Year Entry requirements: Level 1 – no formal entry requirements Level 2 - Students will need an E or above in maths and English. For both courses students are required to have an interest in art and design and will be given the opportunity to show any existing work at interview. Successful completion of Level 1 may allow progression onto Level 2. Successful completion of Level 2 may allow progression onto a specialist BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma within the College depending on completion of Level 2 course AND necessary maths and English qualifications or entry into employment. BTEC Edexcel Diploma Level 2
WORK PREPARATION This course offers students the opportunity to develop employability skills through a range of work related and enterprising projects. The course will enable students to continue to develop their skills and qualifications in Maths, English and ICT all of which are essential for future employment, Enterprise and training. The course will also support students in developing personal skills such as independence and managing personal budgets as well as confidence in communication and travel which will help students increase their employability. In addition students will sample what it is like to work within the real work place and gain valuable experience and references that will help them secure future employment or training. The course seeks to provide students with a broad range of opportunities for employment that cover both the service industries and some areas of art and design, a range of units such as Digital Imaging and Printing as well as Building a Personal Career Portfolio and Enterprise Skills will support individual progression towards employment and further training.

ART & DESIGN This course offers students wide ranging opportunities to explore a diverse range of career options within the creative industries. It is best suited to students who are still unsure of a specific area of study. It encourages individuality to allow the student to explore a wide range of artistic skills and experiences allowing students more time to experiment and consider their creative career options. Current students are encouraged to take an individual approach towards their assignments which are designed to challenge their creative thinking and uniqueness. Students explore 2D, 3D, textiles, ceramics, digital art and mixed media approaches, promoting individual growth as well as collaborative working practices which will result in a professional portfolio of work. Live projects allow students to experience potential professional careers. Projects have included ‘Circus’ with outcomes ranging from performance art, costume design, illustration and 3D installation for an exhibition, ‘Graffiti’ projects resulting in a spray painted skate park and designing children’s toys which were sold in Topshop, Metrocentre.
In addition to this, students will learn how to use computers as design and drawing tools, explore working in the community and art education and experiment with both 2D and 3D outcomes. Students benefit from a number of educational visits to explore local and regional artistic talent, meet clients who provide live briefs, work closely with schools and the community on projects and enjoy working in a creatively charged studio with likeminded people. BTEC Edexcel Extended Diploma Level 3 Art & Design
COSTUME, JEWELLERY & INTERIOR ACCESSORIES (DESIGN CRAFTS) This course offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways including costume, jewellery, theatrical props and accessories, textiles, interior pieces and handmade bespoke work.
Students are also encouraged to find ways of selling their work and developing business skills invaluable for their future careers.
Students learn how to generate, develop and create contemporary ideas in response to challenging briefs and gain invaluable knowledge and skills in how to become designer/makers through promotion, function and saleability of work. Students receive a broad experience and knowledge in year one, including extensive drawing and manipulation of digital imagery for design, this then becomes focused throughout year two, and is designed to enhance career specialisms within the design and craft industries.

Dedicated tutors, professional in areas of design making, guide students through investigations that develop and extend practical 2D and 3D skills within projects and assignments enabling students to create, promote and sell work. FASHION & TEXTILES Tutors who are industry professionals give students the technical training, design understanding and realisation techniques essential for a career in the textile or fashion industries. The course allows students to develop their understanding of the design process in both a fashion and textiles context before choosing which pathway they would like to explore further. (Students opt to study a fashion or textiles pathway after exploring both areas to make an informed decision at the end of the first semester). FASHION PATHWAY The fashion pathway gives students an excellent understanding of the whole design process from pattern cutting and garment production through to historical and contextual referencing, fashion illustration skills, presentation techniques and portfolio building. Emphasis is placed on professional practice as students work in a studio full of industry standard equipment and benefit from regular live projects set by practising fashion designers. There is also the opportunity to take part in educational visits to centres of fashion excellence such as Paris and London. Students are also entered into a wide range of industry led competitions with great success. In 2012 one of our students beat off competition from 50,000 other entrants to win the Clothes Show Young Designer of the Year Award.

TEXTILES PATHWAY The textiles pathway looks at textile design and manipulation. It allows students the opportunity to focus on a wide range of applications including textiles for fashion, for interior design or as fine art and crafts, opening a range of career options. Students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of conventional and non-traditional materials, techniques and processes including fabric manipulation, printing and embroidery. Tutors are practising textile professionals who guide students to their individual career pathway and are successful in doing so. Students also experience live briefs and competitions and some have the opportunity to exhibit their work in Paris at the International Trade Show, Premiere Vision.

BTEC Edexcel Extended Diploma Level 3 Art & Design
FINE ART This course gives students the opportunity to build an extensive and diverse portfolio of practical work demonstrating their individual talents in drawing, painting, sculpture and multidisciplinary areas of art and design.
Duration: Two years
Students develop skills in experimentation with a wide range of materials, techniques and processes, generating ideas through visual research and creative exploration. They take a very personal and highly rewarding journey, developing their individual style through a range of stimulating and thought provoking assignments.
You can also study an A-Level in Photography, English Language or Psychology alongside this course.**
Tutors, all fine artists in their own right, help students to explore the work of others through educational visits to local and national galleries. There are also opportunities for students to participate in residential visits to international art galleries in places such as Barcelona or Madrid. This is an exceptional experience for students and aims to direct them to career pathways that suit their individual talents and passions.

GRAPHIC DESIGN This course offers students the opportunity to become commercial and highly employable ‘creative problem solvers’ in graphics, illustration or associated industries.

Students discover how to turn hand-rendered experiments into professional outcomes using dedicated, state of the art, Apple computers in line with industry standards. Their on course experience is far more in-depth than that offered by other courses and apprenticeships.

At the beginning of the second year of study, students opt to study a graphic design or illustration pathway after exploring both areas for the first year of the course. INTERACTIVE MEDIA If you are excited by computer animation, games design, or film making then this is certainly the right course for you. We offer students the opportunity to explore new media techniques and experiment with interactive design, illustration, comic book art and concept art in a custom built environment with extensive state of the art technologies. Students develop their drawing and design skills to create 2D and 3D computer, as well as, traditional animation techniques. They create their own sets, develop their own characters and storyboards and even learn how to design and implement their games concepts. The course also offers an enhancement in radio production. INTERIOR, ARCHITECTURE & PRODUCT (3D DESIGN) This course offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and interests into lucrative career pathways like interior design, architecture, product design or transport design, exhibition design, theatre and TV props design and furniture design. A-LEVEL A-LEVEL WITH FASHION TEXTILES TEXTILES WITH FASHION This course is aimed at students who are interested in a career in textile and fashion design. This gives them the opportunity to express themselves through functional or decorative manipulation of materials and fabrics. Students will learn from the work of practising textile and fashion designers, exploring textile and fashion specialisms such as print, knit, weave, macramé, embroidery, embellishment and moulage. Students can then develop these techniques into either textile installation, constructed textiles, product or develop a fashion outcome. Tutors are fully qualified practitioners and will help students to experiment with textile and fashion techniques. Each assignment theme is open to allow each individual student to develop a unique and personal response to each project with either a textile or a fashion outcome. From how to respond to a client’s brief, through the research, experimentation and development of a concept to producing design solutions that communicate to a chosen target audience in order to inform, promote and persuade. It explores how the English Language works, how it originated and how it can be used to best effect in a changing world. A-LEVEL SOCIOLOGY This course offers students the opportunity to develop the essential knowledge and understanding of central aspects of sociological thought and methods. It allows us to understand individual problems in their proper social context and reflect upon the ways in which everyday life, such as family relationships, education, and work, are conditioned by forms of social organisation and social systems. A-LEVEL HISTORY OF ART This course offers students the opportunity to explore the very real influence art and design and the growth of society have had on each other throughout history.
Duration: Two years
Students will examine meanings conveyed through art and design from the Italian Renaissance to the contemporary works of today and how these have influenced and been influenced by changing social, political, cultural and economic factors.
Course content: A fascinating insight into the history of art through a range of delivery approaches including educational visits and guest speakers combined with personal interpretations and explorations.
Students studies are further enhanced by museum and gallery visits as well as talks given by visiting lecturers and practitioners from industry. This will enable students to develop their skills in observing and interpreting artworks through a theoretical approach to study.

FOUNDATION DIPLOMA IN ART & DESIGN
This course is designed for post A-Level students preparing them not only to progress to top universities but to do so with an informed confidence. The aim of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is to create an exciting and meaningful experience through which students develop awareness of their individual creative identity. The course immerses students in a range of exploratory creative activities which develop skills and introduce new techniques, approaches and, most importantly, new ways of seeing the world. Students develop high levels of critical thinking and creative interpretation. Initially, students explore the main approaches and processes intrinsic to all three areas of Art, Design and Communication (including fine art, fashion, textiles, graphics, illustration, photography, video and 3D among many others) alongside a programme of drawing and investigation of contemporary art and design. This is followed by a period of focused work where students are supported to specialise in and pursue their own particular individual interest. During the specialist stage students are thoroughly supported and guided through their UCAS applications by experienced, dedicated tutors.

The course, which is free to those aged under 19 years old*, helps students avoid costly mistakes by enabling them to be sure of their subject choice at degree level. This is a long established course with excellent rates of progression to our own university level campus and other top universities across the country. ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION The course is designed to give opportunities for those returning to education or mature (19+) students, to achieve a higher education qualification.
Successful completion gives students a qualification and the skills to progress to a wide range of degrees or MAs (if you already have a degree).
Students will cover on the course a wide range of disciplines whilst gaining a strong understanding of the design process such as, ‘drawing’, textiles, 2D and 3D communication, digital arts and art history. Students will be given support with research, essay writing, UCAS applications and create a progression portfolio.
Duration: One year - 2 ½ days a week.
Throughout the course professional expertise will guide students through the portfolio building processes essential for university interviews. The whole course will culminate in a final public exhibition of work. Although there are no formal entry requirements, students will be required to provide evidence of their commitment, motivation and life skills to cope with the level of the course by providing such things as: drawings, photographs, ideas development, concept art, embroidery, craft items and evidence of written work.

Claire Barrow Claire is a renowned fashion designer and known for her luxury hand-painted leather – she even created a leather jacket for Rihanna! Claire studied BTEC Fashion at CCAD and since then has enjoyed a fantastic fashion career – she made her debut at London Fashion Week in 2013 and has been named in Vogue USA as one of the UK based designers to watch!
Domareen Fox James Silvester James is currently the Head of Architecture at SSH Architects in Oman, leading some of the most prestigious projects in the Middle East. He left CCAD and went on to achieve a double first in architecture winning the RIBA White rose award. He now has over ten years at the cutting edge of the profession working with international companies in UK, China and Middle East.
Domareen, who specialises in visual development for animation is currently working as a designer on show for Disney XD. Domareen was offered the job straight after finishing her character animation university studies.
Luke Dixon Luke is a freelance graphic artist who has had amazing success with thebearhug.com which stocks his unique range of prints, t-shirts, sweatshirts and accessories. Billy Cessford
Curtis Jobling Curtis is a successful illustrator, animator and author. He is probably best known for his work as production designer on ‘Bob the Builder’. He is also the creator of ‘Ra Ra the Noisy Lion’ on CBeebies and “Frankenstein’s Cat”, which is also a series of books.
Billy is a successful prop and scenery maker. He has worked on projects such as props for Madame Tussauds waxworks such as Captain America, opening ceremony props for Paralympic games in Sochi, Russia, props more many CBBC productions and costume/prop maker on theatre productions such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert and The Book of Mormon. Amanda Bradley Amanda is a graphic designer/illustrator whose work is inspired by people, places and culture and uses illustration as a form of message and information sharing. FEES & CHARGES All FE students under the age of 19 on 31st August will have their fees remitted in full. All FE students under the age of 24 on 31st August attempting a full level 2 qualification for the first time will have their fees remitted in full. All FE students over the age of 24 on the 31st August attempting a full level 2 will be eligible for fee remission if they are in receipt of JSA or ESA (WRAG), or are in receipt of an income based benefit and wish to enter full time employment; signed declaration and proof of benefit required. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible. An initial assessment and guidance interview will be arranged for you to have the opportunity to find out which course best suits your needs. We promise to interview any student who applies to one of our courses. At interview you will be asked general questions regarding your application to us, some questions about yourself, your inspirations and aspirations and we ask students to bring a portfolio of their work to discuss. The most important thing about this interview is to be yourself. The idea behind your interview is to show us the kind of things you are interested in, for us to see how passionately you talk about your work and to help us make sure we find the best course to suit you. A portfolio is individual to every student and it is difficult to say exactly what it should consist of. As students will all have individual styles and will have been taught to produce work in different ways. We encourage students to bring anything that they feel will help support their application to the College. A portfolio should be prepared in a logical order.
