News & Notes From

DR. CLARK BECKLEY

ello, everyone. Dr. Cleveland III and I have been very busy these last few months visiting with alumni in various parts of the Midwest. It’s always great to see old friends and “catch up” on what’s been going on in their lives and careers. On Feb. 22, 2013, the College hosted a brunch at the Missouri State Chiropractors Association (MSCA) District II meeting in Kansas City. February 23 found me in Oklahoma City for the Oklahoma State Chiropractic Independent Physicians Association’s (OSCIPA) “Spring Renewal” seminar, where the College hosted a luncheon for CCC alumni. Finally, on March 15, I was in Omaha for the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association’s (NCPA) spring convention, where the College hosted a social hour at the end of the day’s events on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who took the time to attend. I learned so much about what’s going on in the lives and practices of our grads, and I will be sharing tidbits from a lot of the doctors I met with on the pages of this newsletter and future issues. Check the events calendar at cleveland.edu for future events! On another topic, I want to tell you about an event that the College has coming up this summer. On June 13, CCC will celebrate “Founder’s Day.” This event was celebrated annually by our brothers and sisters on our Los Angeles campus for years. Last year, we brought that tradition to Kansas City, and it was such a success that we have decided to make it an annual event here. “Founder’s Day” is one day of specialized education for students designed to give them an aerial view of the profession — from its humble history to its limitless future. In lieu of classes, we have invited D.C.’s to come and share their knowledge and experience with our current students. Do you have a lesson you’d like to share with your future colleagues? Is there something special about your practice or your experience that would benefit a just-starting out doctor? Let us know if you’d like to be a part of this program, and we will send you the details. q

elping athletes improve their performance and avoid injuries is the forté of Dr. Patrick Hammond ’97. He has been the exclusive chiropractor for the Kansas City Royals since 2002. His treatment of athletes — from semi-pro hockey and football to professional soccer and baseball teams — has been an integral part of his evolution as a chiropractic practitioner. In all of his experiences with professional athletes, Hammond has succeeded in promoting the natural healing properties of chiropractic. This has its roots in the aforementioned passion that was ignited for him as a teenage chiropractic patient. “I was awed by the doctor’s ability to fix my back with his hands,” he said. “It was truly a life-altering experience for me.” Fast-forward to the present, where Hammond is the one changing people’s lives. “I believe the chiropractic adjustment is very powerful, and the most important part of a patient’s care,” Hammond said. Send email to Hammond at doc@hammondchiro.com or give him a call at (913) 248-9500. q

r. Candice Hayes, a 2010 Cleveland graduate, is embracing life as a young practitioner still early in her career. Her path changed from medicine after both of her parents found relief through chiropractic. “Outrageous medical bills began to accrue, but with no pain relief,” Hayes said. “Finally, they decided to try chiropractic and it worked! After just a couple of visits they were pain free and able to live their lives even better than before. Since that moment, I knew chiropractic was for me.” Hayes continues to marvel at the power of the body to heal itself. By utilizing chiropractic, relief can not only be achieved without medical care, but expedited. “Educate the patient, empower the body, remove the nerve interference, and then let innate intelligence take over,” Hayes said. “I absolutely love that!” Putting herself in her patients’ shoes allows Hayes to become more connected with their needs. “Treat honestly. Treat confidently. Every patient deserves the best me every time.” This is a good practice, for all practitioners. q
