ABOUT BARBERING
Do you desire to work in a field that values both artistic expression and skilled execution? Consider barbering, a rapidly growing field that combines modern cutting, styling and shaving techniques with a longstanding tradition of precision and craftmanship. Oklahoma Technical College gives its students access to the best equipment and training available. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to take the Oklahoma State Department of Health Barber Exam to become a licensed barber in Oklahoma.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The diploma program takes 53 weeks to complete (or 78 weeks if taking evening classes.) The degree program is 90 weeks (or 115 weeks if taking evening classes.) Barber classes meet from 8:00am to 2:00pm M-F (day) or from 5:30pm to 10:30pm M-Th (evening). A high school diploma or GED and admissions essay is required for application.
JOB OUTLOOK
Employment of barbers is expected to grow 7% by 2020. Demand for hair coloring, straightening, and other advanced hair treatment has increased in recent years, a trend that is likely to continue over the coming decade.
