THRIVE CONFERENCE 2018 | 2

Welcome to Thrive 2018! I’ve been anticipating this weekend for a long time and I’m thrilled you’ve chosen to be here. No matter your story or background, triumph or struggle, my hope is that you feel welcomed and loved in this place, connect with new and old friends, and experience God in a powerful way. This year’s theme is Take Courage. As women, we all need courage, especially as we face personal challenges, uncertainty in our circumstances, and complexities in our world. I’ve been praying that God would meet each of us in a unique way and empower us to live courageously as we trust Him fully. If there’s anything we can do to enhance your experience this weekend or help you engage in next steps, please don’t hesitate to ask. We want to come alongside you in this journey and help you thrive in every area of your life. So sit back, relax, have fun, and soak in all that God has for you these next couple days. Let’s be courageous together!

THRIVE CONFERENCE 2018 | 4

Table Talk / Session 1 If you had enough courage, what is one thing you could do? René asked us to picture ourselves walking down the road with the bleeding woman who was healed in Luke 8. What question would you like to ask her about herself or about Jesus? How do you connect with Jesus? What does that look like for you? Do you wait until you’re desperate? If you had enough courage, do you think you could connect with Him in a new way? What would that look like? What are some ways you try to help yourself out of tough situations? What can you do differently to reach out to Jesus rather than try to rely on self?

Table Talk / Session 2 David was skilled with a slingshot because he had lots of experience with it. What is one thing you’ve become better at over the years? David faced a literal giant who wanted to kill him. What are some giants we all face in today’s world? What do you usually do when you feel afraid? Do you run? Do you hide? Do you pray? Do you share your fear with someone else, or do you keep it to yourself? Do you shrink back? Have you ever had to deal with discouraging words or criticism when you were trying to boldly (or quietly) take a stand against a giant? How did you handle that? What would it feel like if you stepped forward in courage? Share about a time when you felt strengthened by facing an everyday challenge with courage.

Breakout Sessions Finding Purpose in Pain CHAKA HEINZE / D227

Are you trying to make sense of the pain you’re experiencing? There is only one overarching purpose for pain that doesn’t trivialize our deepest wounds. Come hear how the everyday lessons learned from our struggles can carry us step by step toward God’s great purpose for us and “achieve for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

Restoring Joy to Your True Self KRISTA BORGWARDT / G160

How can we be joyful from the inside out when life is so full of busyness, stress, and anxiety? In this workshop, we will slow down, focus on breathing, and experience guided meditation that enhances mindfulness and self-reflection. We will embrace an inner journey that allows God to restore joy to our true selves.

Influencing a Child’s Faith NANCY DAVIES / C217

How do we know if children are maturing in their faith? While there’s no formula to ensure faith development, we can explore markers of faith that coincide with developmental stages. If you’re a mom, grandmother, or woman who influences children or students, join us as we learn how to create environments that allow the Holy Spirit to work in the heart of a child.

Steadfast Marriage LISA BROWN / C117

It’s wise to stop and evaluate your marriage. In this workshop, Lisa will share practical tools to enhance your relationship, as well as give you insight to help reinforce a marriage that will stand the test of time. More than anything, Lisa hopes to encourage you as a wife. Together, let’s learn what it means to be steadfast.

Women Who Do Hard and Holy Things RUBY CLARK / CHAPEL

How do you find your purpose as a young woman? How do you find the courage to step into your calling? Together we will dive into what the Lord has to say about purpose and calling. Let’s be women who do hard and holy things, not ruled by fear. We will learn how to boldly step into our calling and walk in freedom and victory.

Mondays / 6:30–8 PM / Facilitated by Korey Stading Tuesdays / 9:30–11 AM / Facilitated by Susan Friesen & Jo Bonifant The Letters of 1, 2, and 3 John define love in the person of Jesus and call us to love like He loved. This Kelly Minter video study will help us discover what love truly is.

Cooking with Jesus / 7 Weeks / $15 Tuesdays / 9:30–11 AM / Facilitated by Sonia Salfity & Shirley Alther Join us as we cook together, laugh together, and share each other’s stories around the kitchen table. We will learn to check in with our heavenly Father and ask Him to stir His Spirit in our hearts as we stir the food in our pots. This study will focus on a different Bible story each week as we prepare a dish together. Class size is limited.

Finding I am: How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart 6 Weeks / $20 Tuesdays / 9:30–11 AM / Led by Mykaila Norton What is the deep cry of your heart? The prayer you keep repeating? Through this interactive video study, we will be trading feelings of emptiness for the fullness of knowing Jesus like never before.

Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story 7 Weeks / $21 Tuesdays / 9:30–11 AM / Facilitated by Sherry Martin Thursdays / 6:30–8 PM / Facilitated by Lynda Overman Seamless is a video study by Angie Smith. KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Angie Smith

angiesmithonline.com

Angie is married to Todd Smith, lead singer of the Christian group Selah, and mom to five daughters. In 2008, the Smiths received news that their fourth daughter, Audrey, would not survive, and Angie began blogging as a means of communication with friends and family during those difficult days. Angie now writes Bible studies and books, and teaches around the country, but the heart of her ministry is the same as when her fingers typed the very first words on her blog years ago: Angie’s greatest passion is to make the Bible feel accessible and relevant, and to encourage others in their faith journey. Angie holds a Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology from Vanderbilt University and is a best-selling author of multiple adult and children’s books. She and Todd and their house full of daughters live in Nashville, Tennessee.
