BIG STORY: Read Luke 2:41–52 BIG WORD: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you...” Isaiah 66:13a (NIV) LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of this lesson, children will: • Take time to honor their mother or a woman in their life. • Understand that parents aren’t perfect, but God wants us to honor them. • Discover some great mothers in the Bible.

THE BIG QUESTIONS (to discuss with your kids)

1. What does honor mean? Honor means to have high respect and great esteem. Honor means we give that person an important place in our life. 2. In today’s Bible story, how did Jesus honor his mother? He obeyed her by leaving the temple with her. 3. How can we honor our moms? Ephesians 6:1–2a (NLT) says, “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. Honor your father and mother.” We honor our moms by obeying them, respecting them, helping them, praying for them, doing kind things, and telling them how much we love them. 4. Put it into practice! Kids, go right now and tell your mom three things that you really appreciate about her.
