ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church, or download it at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

1.4 God Is the Lord, Part II Part of The Big God Story Exodus 5—11 Ten Plagues

Younger Kids

Did You Know? • The Israelites needed to learn more about their great God. They needed to trust Him and know that He is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. • God chose specific plagues that corresponded with the deities of the Egyptians.

Your younger child may continue to test boundaries and needs consistent discipline. Set and provide appropriate limits, guidelines, and expectations, and consistently enforce house rules using appropriate consequences.

Older Kids

• When God changed the water to blood, God judged the Nile River itself, which had been deified as a god. When dense swarms of flies poured into every place and throughout Egypt, many assert God was judging the Egyptian god Uaticht. The plague of boils was not only painful but also an embarrassing judgment on the Egyptian obsession with physical cleanliness and beauty.

Your older child may question and criticize those in positions of authority (teachers, parents, coaches, etc.). Teach your child to respect and listen to authority figures in her life by modeling this behavior with the authority figures in your own life.

• Through all of the plagues, God proved He alone had the right to His people. He alone is the Lord.
