ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES For Sunday, November 8, 2015

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. GOD DELIVERS Part of The Big God Story Judges 3 Ehud

JUST FOR FUN Encourage each family member to write her name with her left hand (or right hand, if she’s left-handed). Discuss this task—was it hard or easy to do? Then tell everyone you’re going to read a part of The Big God Story that describes how God used a left-handed man to deliver His people. Explain to them that in Bible times, left-handedness was considered strange. Then read Judges 3:12–30. Ask your children what part of this passage of Scripture stood out to them. Talk about how God is always faithful to deliver His people.

YOUNGER KIDS Your child may feel self-conscious and may, at times, focus on her weaknesses rather than her strengths. Find opportunities to remind your child that she’s been given special gifts from God and she should use those gifts to serve others.

OLDER KIDS Your child may dream about how he wants to change the world for Christ but may not act on that dream because he feels he’s “only a kid.” Remind him that God often uses unlikely people to change the course of history. Support him in pursuing his God-given passions.

DID YOU KNOW? • When the Israelites entered the Promised Land, they failed to remove all of the pagan altars. This eventually led them away from the one true God. • In Bible times, left-handedness was seen as a curse and was considered unnatural. • God used Ehud’s left-handedness to trick the evil king Eglon and deliver the Israelites.

REMEMBER VERSE Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • What got the Israelites into trouble when they entered the Promised Land? • How did God help them? • How have you seen God as Deliverer in our family?

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you look to God to deliver you. May you trust that He sees you and hears your every cry for help.
