ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES Date:__________________

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. Visit www.HomeFrontMag.com to subscribe to the print edition or to have a digital copy sent directly to your inbox.

DID YOU KNOW? • “Genesis,” which means “origin,” explains how God created everything in the universe. • God gave the first humans the full responsibility over the earth and animals. • Adam and Eve gave up the right to live in perfect harmony with God when they chose to sin. • After Adam and Eve sinned, God immediately showed them His perfect love by promising to send the Redeemer.

REMEMBER VERSE

GOD REDEEMS Part of The Big God Story Genesis 1—3

JUST FOR FUN Read this part of The Big God Story outside, preferably in a park or garden. Take some time to look around at God’s creation—trees, clouds, birds, flowers, insects, and more. Then read Genesis 1—3.

YOUNGER KIDS Your child is growing more skilled at creating her own art. As you read the creation story with your child, allow her to use crayons, markers, or paints to recreate some of what she hears.

OLDER KIDS Your child is developing his own thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics. Take him to a local park or natural setting and talk about creation. Invite your child to share his thoughts on our responsibility to care for the world around us.

1.1

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • If you could have been there on any of the days of creation, which day would you choose? Why? • Talk together about how God “covered” Adam and Eve when they sinned. • Discuss how God, in His perfect love for us, covered our sin by sending His Son as our Redeemer.

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), “the LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
