ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES Date:__________________

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. DID YOU KNOW? • God sent the flood to judge mankind for how wicked they had become. • God protected Noah, his family, and all of the animals in the ark while it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. • Noah’s family stayed in the ark for more than a year before God told them to open the doors and come out. • God promised to never again flood the earth. He gave us the rainbow to remind us He keeps His word.

REMEMBER VERSE

GOD KEEPS HIS WORD Part of The Big God Story Genesis 6:5—9:17

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

JUST FOR FUN Grab some white paper and colored markers and gather your family. Have each family member draw a beautiful rainbow. As you draw, encourage each person to share a story about a time she saw a rainbow. Then read Genesis 7—8 and 9:12–17. Discuss any new things you heard in this part of The Big God Story.

YOUNGER KIDS Your child’s opinions about God are largely influenced by his experiences with the adults in his life. As your child becomes more aware of the inconsistencies between people’s actions and words, be sure you follow through on what you say you’ll do.

1.2

Deuteronomy 7:9

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • How do you think Noah felt when God chose him to build the ark? • Why did God send a rainbow? • What can we be reminded of when we see a rainbow?

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource.

OLDER KIDS Your child understands how her actions reflect her faith to those around her. Explain to your child the importance of keeping her word, and help her understand that her friends’ view of Christ might be influenced by what she says and does.

A blessing to pray over your child:

(Child’s name), may you trust that God will always keep His promises to you. May you know that He will always take care of you and will never, ever leave you.
