Did You Know?

date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church or download at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Younger Kids

• When God called Abraham, he followed— despite the fact that he didn’t know where he was going. • It was 25 years after God’s first promise to Abraham that He fulfilled it.

1.3

• Sarah was 90 years old when she gave birth to her first son, Isaac. • God promised to bless all people on earth through Abraham. This promise was ultimately fulfilled when Christ came to earth as a descendant of Abraham.

God Is a Covenant Keeper (Part 2) Part of The Big God Story Genesis 12; 15—16

God makes a covenant with Abraham. God promises Abraham that he will be the father of many nations and that his descendants will be so numerous that trying to count them would be like trying to count the stars!

Older Kids Your child is able to apply lessons learned from Scripture to his own life. As you read the Bible, encourage him to think about what the various people in this passage of Scripture may have been seeing, hearing, and feeling. Give opportunities for him to draw out personal applications.

Teachable Moments

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2)

After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • What was God’s promise to Abraham? • Do you think it was hard for Abraham to believe God’s promise? • Whom did God say would be one of Abraham’s descendants?

Just for Fun

Encourage them to look up Take your children outside at night. they think there are. The idea of millions may be a numerical concept difficult for your child to grasp. To help her understand the vastness of this number, ask her to count as high as she can. Then talk about how many hundreds (thousands, etc.) there are in a million.
