ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church, or download it at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Younger Kids

Did You Know? • In Jeremiah 23:1, Jeremiah denounced the leaders of Judah for the evil way they had ruled God’s people. • Jeremiah’s prophecy (Jeremiah 23:5–6) foretold the King of God’s choosing in contrast to the evil kings who had sat upon the throne.

Older Kids Your older child may begin to be more private with her thoughts. Instead of pushing her to speak up, give her space to think things through, and keep open lines of communication so she can share when she feels ready.

• Through Jeremiah, God reminded His people that no matter how dark things became, He would fulfill His promise to David and bring a king who would rule justly and bring peace. • By sending His Son Jesus, God the Father brought from the Davidic family line a King—the righteous Branch, the promised Heir to David’s throne.

Remember Verse

Your younger child needs to feel respected. Be sure to make eye contact with him when you’re talking with him and give him your full attention. Don’t get distracted by electronic devices.

Teachable Moments

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

After reading Jeremiah 23:5–6, discuss the following together: • What prophecy did Jeremiah give to God’s people? • When Jesus came to earth, how was He different from an earthly king? • What does it mean that Jesus is King of Kings?
