ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church or access the app for your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

REMEMBER & CELEBRATE Festival of Jubilee: A Time to Celebrate Freedom, Liberty, and Restoration for All of God’s People

Did You Know? • The Israelites celebrated seven annual feasts and festivals: Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Festival of First Fruits, Feast of Harvest, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths). • During the feasts, the Israelites ate, danced, sang, played instruments, prayed, and offered sacrifices to God. • The Year of Jubilee was a consecrated year set aside to proclaim liberty and restoration. This festival occurred every 50 years after seven sabbatical years. • During Jubilee, debts were forgiven, and those who had sold themselves to settle a debt were set free. Through the Jubilee celebration, God reminds His people that He is their Provider.

Your child is beginning to understand what it means to have a relationship with Christ. As that relationship grows, be sure to take note of the spiritual landmarks in his life. Share your own stories with him and celebrate all that God is doing in the lives of your family!

Older Kids As your child‘s relationship with Christ continues to grow, encourage her to start a written journal. Remind her that journaling is a great way for her to be able to look back and remember and celebrate the many things God is doing in her life.

Teachable Moments After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • What are some of the ways God has provided for our family?

• Remind your child that it is because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross that we have liberty and freedom from sin.
