Did You Know?

date:

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church or download at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Younger Kids

Your child may still have temper tantrums when feeling emotional. Encouraging your child to talk to you and be open about his feelings may help him learn to better cope with difficult situations.

• Jacob wrestled all night long with God, who came to him in the form of a man. • Jacob refused to let go of God until God blessed him. • God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, which means “one who strives after God.”

Older Kids

• From that point forward, Jacob had a permanent limp—a physical reminder of his encounter with God.

As your child gets older, she may struggle with the tension between being a child and being a young adult. She may need to be reminded that even though she is older now, she still needs to listen to and respect authority figures in her life.

God Is Faithful Part of The Big God Story Genesis 27:41—28:17; 32—33

Teachable Moments

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:1–3

After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • How did God meet with Jacob? • What did Jacob ask for? • How does God meet with us today?
