ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES For Sunday, August 28, 2016

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. JESUS IS THE LORD OF LIFE Book of Romans Romans 1—10 Paul’s letter to the Roman church gives a clear picture of how people can find God.

JUST FOR FUN Read Romans 3:21—27. Then, using whatever medium you desire, create a visual “timeline” of your spiritual journey. Include the various people, places, and events God used to bring you into relationship with Him. Encourage your children to do the same.

REMEMBER VERSE But these were written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31

Summer Lesson 10

DID YOU KNOW? • Paul wrote the book of Romans from the city of Corinth during his third missionary journey. • The book of Romans answers the question of why we need Jesus and gives us direction on how to find Him. • We have all sinned, and our sin separates us from God. • Jesus’ death and resurrection provide us with a way to be reunited with God.

YOUNGER KIDS Your child is beginning to reason logically and make right choices. Provide him with some “right choice” and “wrong choice” scenarios, and discuss ways he can rely on God to show him the correct path to take.

OLDER KIDS Your child is capable of complex thought processes. She is able to weigh consequences and foresee possible outcomes of the choices she makes. Discuss with your child the role of faith in the decision-making process and how God’s path may be different from the world’s.

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • Why did Jesus die on the cross? • What must we do to be reunited with God? • Have you made the decision to put your faith in Jesus?

BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), May you know that Jesus is the Lord of life. May you remember that God offers you salvation through Jesus.
