This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource
This magazine gives families ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in their homes—setting aside a sacred space for family in the midst of their active, everyday lives! As the new issue becomes available each month, you may choose to print it for families, or you may encourage them to visit www.HomeFrontMag.com where they can subscribe to the print edition or have a digital copy sent directly to their inboxes.

GOD IS CREATOR Part of The Big God Story Genesis 1—2:3

1.1

DID YOU KNOW? • The book of Genesis, which means “origin” explains how God created everything in the universe and the world. • God ordered, formed, and spoke everything into existence. • God gave the first humans beings full responsibility over the earth and animals.

REMEMBER VERSE “The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:11

TEACHABLE MOMENTS JUST FOR FUN Grab a flashlight and read this part of The Big God Story outside at night. Before reading, take a few moments to look at the heavens. Talk about the differences between day and night, and light and dark. Then read Genesis 1—2:3.

After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • If it were possible for you to have been there on one of the days of creation, which day would you choose and why? • Parents, be sure to share too! • Pray together, thanking God that He created us and made our world. Ask Him to show you ways to take care of the world He created.

DEVELOPMENTALLY SPEAKING Many children at this age enjoy playing with play dough. As you read through the creation story, encourage your child to use play dough to form some of the things you’re reading about. As he does, remind him it’s God who made everything in our world.

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), God is the Creator and has made you with lots of love and joy. May you grow to know His love more and more. As you do, may you share His love and care with others.
