HomeFront Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. You’ll find out what they learned today at church, and you can help them prepare for next week by exploring the theme (or Ponder Point) and spending time together in God’s Word.
WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK PONDER POINT: GOD IS THE LIVING GOD Daniel Daniel 6 King Darius makes a decree that no man may pray to anyone but him for 30 days, but Daniel prays to God only. When Daniel is thrown into a lions’ den as punishment, God proves He is the living God by shutting the lions’ mouths.
WHERE WE’RE HEADED NEXT TIME PONDER POINT: GOD SAVES, PART 1 Jonah Jonah 1—4 The prophet Jonah runs from God rather than take God’s offer of mercy to the evil people of Nineveh.
DID YOU KNOW? Share these facts to get the conversation started. • God often sent messages through prophets in order to awaken people and move them to repentance and restoration. • God gave His prophet Jonah a message to take to the Gentile people of Nineveh. But instead, Jonah boarded a boat going to Tarsish—the opposite direction. • When ships headed Tarshish, they weren’t expected to return for three years.
Lesson 3.3
CONNECT AS A FAMILY Read the biblical account of God sending Jonah to Nineveh in Jonah 1:1–6, 11– 12, and 15–17 during your child’s bath time. Allow her to splash and create a “storm” in the bathtub. When you read about Jonah being swallowed by a fish, ask your child to imagine what it must have been like to be inside a giant fish. Talk about how God saved Jonah by sending the giant fish. After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together: • What did Jonah do when God told him to go to Nineveh? • What happened after Jonah was thrown overboard? • What did Jonah say to God inside the fish? These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God Saves into your everyday life as a family.
REMEMBER VERSE The Remember Verse focuses on a character trait of God that’s highlighted in next week’s portion of The Big God Story.
The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. Zephaniah 3:17a
BLESSING Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you always remember you are God’s child. When you call out to God, He will save you.
