Letter from the President Hello and welcome to Cotuit Center for the Arts! If this is your first time, I hope you enjoy yourself and will make plans for many more visits in the future. Do take some time to look around and experience the best arts center on all of Cape Cod. If you are one of our returning patrons, members, sponsors, thank you for your ongoing support. You and your support are crucial — we can’t Do It At Cotuit without your help. There is a quote I usually have in the back of my mind when planning, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” It reminds me that no matter the thought, energy, and contingencies put into a plan, something unexpected can usually be counted upon to occur. Well, we found ourselves in an extraordinarily surprising situation in October of last year. The gas station and bakery properties adjacent to the Center came up for auction, and we had two weeks to act. David and the Board quickly came up with a plan and, with the involvement of several supporters, were successful in purchasing these two important properties. It never seemed possible that we could own the gas station and bakery parcels (or even the iconic LowLowLow sign!), so imagining and planning our future campus never included those lots. Our best-laid plans have been upended with this exciting addition, and we are thrilled. But, more than ever before, we need your help! Remember the strategic plan we developed in the Fall of 2016? It now needs major revisions! We are accelerating the campus design aspect of the plan and the fundraising needed to support the expansion. We want to hear your thoughts on what should be included in our plan as we move forward — how do you imagine the Center in the future? We are dreaming big and dreaming bold. We want the Center to fully embody our mission statement as a welcoming arts and community hub for all. We need your vision. Imagine with us. You are already a vital part of the Center’s present — please dream with us and be a part of the Center’s future. Best always, Kathie Lynch Nutting

Greetings!

Welcome to Cotuit Center for the Arts! March 2018, marks the beginning of my 9th year at the helm of this incredible cultural community organization. I remember it like it was yesterday, meeting Jim Hoeck, our President Emeritus, at the old Naked Oyster where the interview focused much more on what value arts and culture can and should have in a community than the day-to-day challenges of running a non-profit organization in a place like Cape Cod. We dreamed big that day. Talked about the possibilities of truly developing a resource for our entire community. Where all residents participated. Where kids thrived. Where seniors connected. Where the highest possible quality of local, regional, national, and international arts and culture would be presented in 6 | Do it at Cotuit

our beautiful space. We talked about growth. When? How? Then in March of 2010, I joined a small staff, a few volunteers, and a group of local residents that would blossom and flourish, taking pride in and ownership of our community arts center. We started to dream, and then we grew. Our membership base swelled from less than 200 to more than 1500. We increased the gallery exhibition space. We renovated the Black Box. We opened a bar. We tripled our programming and presented worldfamous artists in addition to our local talented actors, singers, artists, and poets. We increased our parking. We adopted a 5-year strategic plan. And we put our noses to the grindstone. Then something unexpected happened. The gas station and

falling-down former bakery adjacent to our property went on the auction block. We had two weeks to make a decision, and in that time, our board of directors, staff, and several very generous donors came together because we knew this was an opportunity that we could not pass up. So we went to the auction and acquired the properties at a good price. We were able to do this because a few people stepped up in a significant way. We are currently in the process of raising the rest of the funding for this purchase and appreciate all donations. Back to that first meeting with Jim — since then we always dreamed we could expand our campus, but

the idea of taking ownership of the gas station/bakery seemed out of the realm of possibility. Sometimes when you least expect it, you have to act boldly. That’s what our Board of Directors did at the end of last year. And now, it’s time to IMAGINE. We now have a 71/2 acre campus loaded with possibilities. We will be imagining a new future where our mission of the welcoming hub where the arts are accessible, nurturing, and thrilling to all is more robustly realized. Just imagine. Let us know what you imagine. We want you to be involved in our future for generations to come. Thanks for supporting us. Enjoy your time here, and IMAGINE. - David Kuehn, Executive Director

We are now a Points of Light Service Enterprise! Cotuit Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that we have been certified by Points of Light as a Service Enterprise! A Service Enterprise is an organization that fundamentally leverages volunteers and their skills throughout their organization to successfully deliver on its social mission. Research conducted by the TCC Group, a national program and evaluation firm, found that organizations operating as Service Enterprises outperform peer organizations on all aspects of organizational effectiveness and are more adaptable, sustainable, and capable of scaling their work. Cotuit Center for the Arts completed an extensive assessment, over 20 hours of training and consulting and extensive internal planning and change to better integrate volunteers in our day-to-day operations. By achieving this level of excellence and certification, Cotuit Center for the Arts is now better equipped to leverage the time and talent of volunteers and better meet our mission. For more information regarding volunteer opportunities with our organization, please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page. Fantastic Painted Furniture Is it a class? Or a paint party? Nancy Frary’s Fantastic Painted Furniture class is both! With humor and charm and an ever-expanding palette of color and pattern, Nancy will help you turn Nancy Frary that ugly old side table you found at the dump into a family heirloom your descendants will be fighting over for generations to come. Part DIY, part instruction, part awesome club, Nancy’s fun and inspiring class will have you hooked — on painting furniture and on the unique community her class fosters. Nancy comes to the Center with 20 years experience in decorative painting and studied under her mentor and notable national artist, the late Ginny Boylan of Cummaquid and Marblehead. Prior to moving to Cape Cod, Nancy owned Yellow Dog Designs and created custom painted furniture and floorcloths for Northshore clients. Currently, Nancy paints for pleasure and for the Portland non-profit Painting for a Purpose and their annual Artful Auction benefiting local schools. We are thrilled she is happy teaching here at the Center and look forward to her furniture painting and floorcloth (new!) classes this year! A Pep Talk

from the Director of Education: Hello, potential students! Are you stuck? Whether you realize it or not, you spend the majority of your day doing things you’ve already done hundreds or thousands of times before. To wit: what are you wearing right now? What did you eat for breakfast? What time will you go to bed tonight? How old are those shoes, anyway? Might be time to shake things up, perhaps? What if you made it a point to try new things for the purpose of engaging in a unique and new experience? Pry yourself from the boring old jaws of your everyday same-old same-old and, I don’t know, maybe, asking for a friend here, what if you decided to, sort of, kind of, well, see…..*gasp* TAKE A CLASS here at the Center? Yes, actually, sign up and TAKE A CLASS. Live the life you

54 | Do it at Cotuit

were meant to live! Imagine astounding your friends and loved ones — “I’m sorry, I can’t because I’m too busy TAKING A CLASS!” Explode notions of what you might be capable of! Reinvigorate that lousy hum-drum with energy and excitement! Yeah, that’s right! I’m talking to YOU! Yes, YOU! A class! Imagine YOU taking a CLASS! YOU learning a thrilling NEW SKILL! Awesome and Brave YOU! Now — all cheerleading hyperbole aside — there are some bona fide and serious benefits to taking a class, such as:

1. OVERCOMING FEAR

In most cases, plain old fear (AKA uncertainty, worry, procrastination) keeps us from trying new things. We’re afraid of the investment — or the consequences — or the worst-case scenario: WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE IT???

Once you commit to try something new, fear gets right-sized, and challenges that seemed like mountains become totally doable (practically inconsequential) molehills.

2. GETTING TO KNOW YOURSELF BETTER

So we think we know ourselves, but then we try something new and discover skills and talents and likes (and dislikes!) and other surprising information about ourselves that we had not known before — learning new stuff will do that. Trying something new helps you learn a lot about yourself — who you thought you always were (oatmeal for breakfast again?) and who you are becoming (whoa, asparagus omelet, please!).

floorcloth painting, poetry, writing, lecture, improv, scene study, performance, ukulele, tapdancing, yoga, clay handbuilding, printmaking, sword swallowing, and drumming! Well, okay, not sword swallowing, but ALL the rest — and more. Check out our new and improved website and sign up today — really, it’s time — c’mon, see number 1 above — overcome that fear, get over here, Awesome and Brave YOU!

3. STIMULATING CREATIVITY

Ask any highly creative person how they continue to innovate and express themselves in new ways – they’ll tell you that they keep trying new things. Michelangelo famously scribbled “ancora imparo” in the margin of a sketch in 1562 — “I am still learning.” He was 87! When you try new things, you keep your brain nimble — and you start to think about everything in a new light. 2018 is packed with programming and some nifty new classes here at the Center. Hmmmmm…. drawing, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, oils, sculpting, mixed media, photography, furniture and

entertain What began as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar morphed into an international sensation. Over fifty years later, the musical still excites audiences and actors alike with its challenging vocals and powerful story. Based loosely on the Gospels’ account of the final days of Jesus Christ, the musical is as much a retelling of these last days as it is an examination of the character of Judas, the dangers of celebrity, and the pitfalls of fame. We are thrilled to present Jesus Christ Superstar as our Spring musical, running March 9-31. The show will be produced and directed by Rebecca Riley and Stephen Colella, both longtime fans of Superstar. We spoke with Rebecca about their vison for the producion.

Why did you choose the show? How is it a good fit for the Center this season? Why did you and Stephen Colella decide to collaborate together? Stephen and I met three years ago in CCftA’s production of Annie. We were reunited two years later in Scrooge the Musical where we played the Ghost of Christmas Past and Jacob Marley’s Ghost, respectively. Our characters in Scrooge were featured at the beginning of the show, so we spent a lot of time backstage chatting about theater during our downtime. Being the end of the season, the discussion often turned to what shows may be coming up for the following year. This is when we discovered a mutual love for Jesus Christ Superstar. We found ourselves watching YouTube clips, singing the songs and coming back to it every weekend. Our Scrooge castmates also got excited and became part of the conversation. This is when we decided to put it out there and see if we could make this show happen. We put together a proposal and were thrilled when David Kuehn said yes! I grew up listening to Superstar on my parents’ record player and would sing and dance for hours in our kitchen. The music has always had a special place in my heart. Because I was so infatuated with the show, my mom even took

my siblings and me to see Ted Neeley perform as Jesus of Nazareth when I was in high school... a performance I will never forget! I am absolutely thrilled to have been given the opportunity to bring this show to Cotuit Center for the Arts and to work with the incredible production team and cast that Stephen and I have assembled. The level of talent that came forth is amazing, and Cotuit will ROCK this March! Tell us about your cast/team. Malcolm Granger, who recently appeared in and led the band of One Man, Two Guvnors, is the Music director of our cast and all-star band. Choreographer and Cotuit audience favorite, Laura Shea, brings years of dance experience to our show. Can you tell us anything about your vision for the production? Style? Designed by Emily Holmgren and Ashley Heaton (set), Greg Hamm (lighting), and Tami Trask (costumes), the show will have a modern style and an industrial look. The ensemble for Jesus Christ Superstar is the backbone of the show, and we have been gifted with an incredible troupe of more than 30 actors, dancers, and vocalists. We hope to fill every inch of the performance space with emotion and exhilarating sound and action.

MEET JESUS OF NAZARETH The role of Jesus of Nazareth will be played by Sean Potter. Sean is a Massachusetts-based actor, native of Cape Cod, and graduate of Drew University. He recently performed as an Educator in Portland, Maine’s Speak About It tour of the United States & Canada. Locally he starred as Count Dracula in Dracula for Dummies, and performed in Oscar Wilde’s Salomé, and Amadeus at The Provincetown Theater. Sean is beyond excited to be Jesus of Nazareth in Jesus Christ Superstar at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Do it at Cotuit | 59

BOX OFFICE NEWS! by JASON MELLIN

We are proud to announce our new partnership with OvationTix! OvationTix is a leader in ticketing systems for performance spaces across the country, including many fellow venues here on Cape Cod! We’ve heard many of the requests and suggestions from our patrons regarding our previous ticketing software, and we’re confident that the features and services offered by OvationTix will better allow us to provide a reliable and comprehensive ticket purchase and class registration process. For example: when you log on to purchase tickets, you will now be able to see your ticket history, your membership level, and time until renewal. You’ll also be able to simply set up yearly

62 | Do it at Cotuit

or monthly recurring payments! Gone will be the days of missed notices to renew and wondering when your membership expires. In addition, we will be able to add new types of memberships and subscriptions in the future. Love the edgy and experimental shows over in the Black Box? Or perhaps coming to concerts on the main stage? Or are you one of our opening night devotees who knows exactly how you want to spend six Thursdays out of the year? We will have the ability to offer discounted rates on specific types of productions. Let us know what kind of packages you would be interested in! We also will be partnering the OvationTix Call Center. They can book your tickets and answer

most questions at times when the Box Office is busy or closed. That means you no longer have to hope our lone Box Office Manager (yours truly) is available when you call for tickets. The Call Center gets their information directly from us, so you can trust that anything you ask of them will be up to date and accurate. Most importantly, our move to OvationTix will allow us to offer one of the most-requested features to all of our patrons: the ability to choose your own seat! No more arriving early to claim your favorite seat, instead you’ll pick your seats from a map online, or request them from the Box Office. Preferred seating will still be available to our Center Circle members, but now

anybody can pick seats and have their row and seat number on their ticket. This will speed up the will-call process and give everyone the professional experience you expect at a modern theater with the familiar and personal service you expect here at Cotuit Center for the Arts. As we move ahead with this transition, we of course are doing what we can to expect the unexpected. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please contact me at 508-428-0669 ex. 120 or jason@cotuitcenterforthearts.org. This change is going to help us as we move to an even bigger campus and run more and more programming, and I hope you all are as excited as we are!

DRAWING LINES FROM COTUIT, DUBLIN, NEW YORK, to Take a Play on AND BACK How the Road, Win Awards, by JIM DALGLISH

and Not Lose Your Mind

(The following is an excerpt from a blog Jim Dalglish wrote about his exploits producing “Lines in the Sand” at CCftA and taking it to Dublin and New York City.) Where would I find a 15-year-old who had the acting chops to pull it off? I got lucky when Nick Bucchianeri came to auditions. Jim Dalglish, playwright

The goal is to make it look easy. That’s what good productions of good plays do — make their creation look effortless. So easy, in fact, that the audience completely loses themselves in the action and forgets they’re watching actors onstage. But making something look easy can be extremely difficult. When I wrote Lines in the Sand, I knew it would be a challenge to pull off. The play follows a 15-year-old boy after he is rescued from being raped. The boy is gay and his rescuer is an ex-con who has been stalking him. Not easy material — especially because it requires actors to be completely believable in their roles. 66 | Do it at Cotuit

TALKING NICK AND PAULA AND BOB INTO IT A few years back Nick appeared in my play Unsafe and he was terrific. I suggested that he might be intrigued by Lines in the Sand, hoping he might show up at auditions. Nick and his parents — Bob and Paula — had read the play and decided that Nick should go for it. I don’t think this was an easy decision. Anyone who has seen the play knows that it explores some of the most distressing ordeals an adolescent could experience. Before I cast him, I told Nick’s parents that his well-being was more important to me than my play. With this assurance, we were able to build the trust we needed for Nick to pull the role off in such spectacular fashion. The journey he and his acting partner Tony Travostino, a

terrific actor from New York who, appearing with Nick in Unsafe, took every night onstage was thrilling. They made it look so easy … every line so ineffably right. Their work was acknowledged in Ireland when together they won the Best Actor Award at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. In order to make it easy to take the show to Dublin and NYC, we had to limit the set pieces and props as much as possible. We decided one way to immerse the audience in the play’s settings would be to rely on evocative sound effects.

TALKING ANNA INTO IT In order to evoke an important plot point that happens offstage, my co-director Ian Ryan and I lured the incredibly talented Anna Botsford to lend us her voice. All we needed was a song by Kid Rock, a multi-directional microphone, a bag of silverware, some blocks of wood, and Anna, Ian, and me acting a little crazy and we were able to conjure an off-stage drug party out of thin air.

created by an incredibly talented 15-year-old boy who draws like a young Egon Schiele, she said, “I know what that looks like.” And she did. Her work was so extraordinarily good and the projections so compelling that she was nominated for the Hilton Edwards Award for Best Aspect of Production at the Dublin festival.

TALKING SAM INTO IT An important monologue in the play makes a few references to how men may not have evolved much past their caveman past. When I was writing these passages, I heard primal drums in my head. I decided that was just what the show needed. I was grateful that Sam Holmstock — a program coordinator at CCftA who specializes in drum strategies for healing — decided to help me out. Sam teaches drumming at CCftA, but also leads wonderful programs for incarcerated teens, PTSD Vets, and autistic (cont.)

An important element of the story line also helped us convey the setting of the play. Nick’s character is a promising artist who sketches the things he sees, the places he visits, and the people he meets. He keeps them all in a sketchbook that Tony’s character rifles through early in the play. Why not project Billy’s sketches on the back wall of the stage so that the audience can see the settings through Billy’s eyes? The only problem was to find someone to create the illustrations.

TALKING JACKIE INTO IT Jackie Reeves is an incredibly talented artist who teaches at Cotuit Center for the Arts. When I called her and told her I needed 20 sketches that looked as though they were

Nick Bucchianeri and Tony Travostino Do it at Cotuit | 67

inspire DRAWING LINES FROM COTUIT, DUBLIN, NEW YORK, AND BACK (cont.) adults. The drum rhythms he composed and recorded were perfect for the play. One of the amazing things about modern technology is that I did not meet Jackie or Sam in person until after the show opened. Our phone conversations, emails, and texts were enough to collaborate efficiently and effectively. We are living in connected/ disconnected times.

ERIN AND A BUNCH OF PAPER CLIPS The Black Box at the CCftA is a great space for small, intimate plays. And the refurbished Black Box Theater is terrific, with two minor quibbles — acoustics and lights. We were fortunate to have Bruce Allen install a bunch of sound baffles before the play premiered but

the lights were a little more challenging. Erin Trainor — our intrepid technical director and stage manager — managed to work miracles with a few theatrical lights and a bunch of clamp lights like the ones you can buy at Home Depot for 20 bucks. All we needed were paper clips to attach colored gels to the aluminum reflectors on the clamp lights to convince the audience they were seated in a men’s bathroom, a diner booth, a clearing in a forest, a car, and a cheap motel room. Making a show look simple is damn hard. But with the talents of a lovely group of dedicated and talented people working as a team, you can create theatrical magic practically out of thin air. But then again, this is a common occurrence at Cotuit Center for Arts.

To find out how the CCftA team took the show on the road to Dublin and New York City, read the rest of the blog at: www.jimdalglish.com/news/.

Robert Bucchianeri & Paula Schnepp Article by NICK BUCCHIANERI

Robert Bucchianeri and Paula Schnepp live a short five minutes away from Cotuit Center for the Arts, just over the Cotuit line in Marstons Mills. Having moved to the Cape over 21 years ago by way of California and Texas, Bob’s biggest adjustment has been winter. Fortunately, he frequently warms himself within the four walls of the Center’s two theaters and in the welcoming embrace of the wonderful community he finds there. After a career in real estate, he made the transition to full-time writer, and now spends his days making up stories for lots of fun and a little profit. He writes mysteries and thrillers and you can find his work by going to Amazon’s website and typing in his name. Bob also loves to cook and boasts of a particularly wicked pasta puttanesca.

Center and was thrilled to meet one of his absolute favorites, Steve Earle, and chat with him about his album, Transcendental Blues. In Bob’s opinion, TB is one of the best rock & roll albums ever recorded.

Bob’s favorite shows at the Center include Company, Sunday in the Park with George, and Side by Side by Sondheim (if you’re thinking that maybe he has a thing for Stephen Sondheim, you’d be right). It must be mentioned, though, that he attended Lines in the Sand at least a dozen times. He has also enjoyed many concerts at the

Paula’s been very active in the Center’s community and was thrilled to make her acting debut in the Center’s production of Oklahoma!, playing Aunt Eller. When she can clear time on her schedule, she hopes to return to the stage. In the meantime, she satisfies her urge to croon as a member of the Falmouth Chorale.

Bob’s wife, Paula Schnepp, is a Wisconsin native who attended Carleton College in Minnesota and then worked with the federal government in Washington D.C. and Dallas (where she and Bob met) before moving to the Cape. She is a multifaceted woman with her fingers in too many pies to mention here. She is active in politics – after the results of a recent election, Bob is required to refer to her as Madame Councilor – and, when she isn’t rowing the bays of Cape Cod, you’re likely to find her at the Sandwich Housing Authority where she is the Executive Director.

Above: Robert, Nick, & Paula

Nick, Bob and Paula’s son, has made the Center his home away from home for four years now. He stage-crewed his first show at the Center, Grey Gardens, in August 2014. Since then, he has participated and worked backstage on over ten mainstage productions including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, 33 Variations, and Annie! and numerous special events. In the past couple of years, he’s indulged his interest in acting and appeared in the Center’s

productions of Oklahoma!, Unsafe, and most prominently as one of the stars of Lines in the Sand in the Black Box. You may also run into him in the Box Office where he sometimes works on the weekends. Since Nick’s in his senior year at Sturgis Charter Public School, expect to see Bob and Paula around the Center even more as they adjust to an empty nest very soon!

Board Member Spotlight

Susan Andersen

When Bill retired in 2010, he and Sue decided to move full-time to the Cape, where they settled in their current home located in Sandwich. When Sue’s job ended the following year, she decided to become involved in volunteer work to fill the time, at least until Article by DALE SILVA the next work opportunity presented itself. Fortunately for us, she chose Cotuit Center for the Arts. As with many of us, she began by serving as an usher at theater events, but it wasn’t long before she began to apply her professional skills to the key activities of the Marketing and Development Committee roles. One of the most important of these has been taking on the position of co-chairperson of the Center’s major annual fundraising event, Entertainment Tonight (ET), a role she has fulfilled for the last three years.

Above: Bill Fleming & Susan Andersen

For the past two years, we have had the very good fortune to include Susan Andersen as a member of our Board. She brings to Cotuit over 25 years of marketing and business development experience, skills that are so valuable to our organization as we continue our future growth. She continues to expand on those skills in her own career while sharing them with us going forward. Sue grew up in Springfield, MA and earned her B.S. degree in Business Administration from Providence College. She later graduated from Boston University School of Management with an M.S. in Management Information Systems. Eventually, Sue settled down in nearby Smithfield, RI, where she and husband Bill Fleming worked and raised their family of three sons over a period of 25 years. It was during this time that Sue began her professional marketing career in the high-tech environment, ultimately achieving a title of Director of Product Marketing.

All of this “temporary” volunteer work has not prevented Sue from finding continuing opportunities in her professional career. Since 2013, she has been associated with NYCbased ShoreGroup, an organization that uses technology solutions to help clients solve business challenges. Sue holds the title of Director of Marketing, a function that allows her to complete a major portion of her contributions from her home office environment. Fortunately, this arrangement ensures that Sue can continue her rewarding efforts in support of Cotuit Center for the Arts. As busy as Sue is, she still finds some time to enjoy living on the Cape, volunteering for local Sandwich activities, becoming a yoga instructor, and most importantly, spending valuable play time with her three grandchildren. She even has managed to spend six weeks in Spain to take an emergent Spanish language course. So, if you happen to see this incredibly active woman at Cotuit, be sure to say, “thank you” (or maybe “gracias”) for all that she does! Do it at Cotuit | 83

Back Stage Spotlight

Cristina Reverdy

Scenic Painter extraordinaire! Tell us a little about yourself: I grew up in Canton, MA and am the eldest of seven children. I’m the only one of my siblings who didn’t go to college. I was very fortunate to attend Canton High in the late 70s and credit my art teacher Donald Quincy for giving me the confidence to follow my creative instincts. I don’t believe I chose to be an artist. It’s just who and what I am. I suppose I could have chosen any other profession, but I’m glad I didn’t. When you aren’t creating sets, what kind of art do you create? All kinds. I’ve always made my living through art. As a result, there’s the commercial side to what I do, mostly marketable seashore-related paintings (mermaids, shells, beaches etc). I painted murals for almost 20 years, and most were scenic and realistic in style, depicting what is familiar, natural, comforting. When painting, and because I have a tendency to be impatient, I work mostly in acrylics. The majority of my work is on commission, mostly portraits, both of people and pets, nature, and architectural themes. Because I tend to crave change, and I love discovering new materials, I often take detours from painting. I enjoy sculpting with a variety of materials, and I work on very small to very large projects. If I had to sum up my life as an artist, I would say this: Art is a journey, with so many possible routes. If I seem to be running in circles, it’s because I’m not sure of my final destination, but I trust I will get there eventually. In the meantime, I don’t want to miss anything along the way! Do you have any favorite projects you’ve

done at CCftA? What made them special?: Annie was definitely my favorite project at the Center. Although I’ve enjoyed many aspects of other set projects, I feel that Annie was a true collaborative effort. Guy Trudeau had brilliantly designed the comics page-themed interactive revolving panels. When he asked me to create the imagery for the set, I was happy to accept. Having been a trompe l’oeil muralist for so many years, the greatest challenge for me was to simplify and eliminate details to stay consistent with an outlined comic strip look. I believe we all – artists, producers, directors, actors – have a unique perspective. It’s really the ability to listen and communicate, brainstorm, take risks, and above all, work within a team that determines how successful a set is. I hope the future will bing many more opportunities for set design collaborations at the Center. Do you have anything coming up at CCftA? Elsewhere?: In addition to six tabletops for a local restaurant and a large 3’x4’ portrait, I’m working on an annual ornament project for the Dorchester running club. This is the 3rd year in a row I have designed, cast, and finished 500 ornaments for their 50K holiday event. This winter I hope to finish a 10-foot-tall sculpture for CapeCodCAN’s Animal Companions mosaic project. The animal totem is scheduled to be installed at the new MSPCA building in Centerville sometime in the summer of 2018. I suppose multitasking is one of my greatest skills! Do it at Cotuit | 85
