JULY 9 - Blackstrap Provincial Park was transformed into a challenging race course as hundreds of athletes hit the trails at the 2015 Dirty Donkey Mud Run on Saturday, July 4. The event is a wild and fun spectacle that combines trail running with unique obstacles and challenges that push participants to their physical and mental limits and assures they cross the finish line wet and muddy. Separate courses were offered for elite athletes and for individuals and groups that were more off-the-couch thrill seekers. WAYNE SHIELS CLARK’S CROSSING GAZETTE

The Clark’s Crossing Gazette welcomes Letters to the Editor regarding topics of interest to our readers. The Gazette reserves the right to edit letters for brevity and clarity. Letters must be accompanied by the author’s name, signature and daytime telephone number for verification purposes (name and daytime telephone number in the case of emailed letters). Letters must be tastefully written and meet the Gazette’s legal standards in order to qualify for publishing. The Clark’s Crossing Gazette does not necessarily support or oppose the opinions, expressed or implied, in this newspaper. The Clark’s Crossing Gazette is independently owned and operated. Any reproduction for non-personal purposes, in whole or in part, without the expressed written permission of the Publisher is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

The Gazette is distributed free of charge to residents in the area. Subscriptions outside the market area within Canada are available at an annual rate of $109.00+GST.

NEWS & PHOTO SUBMISSION TIPS

The Clark’s Crossing Gazette welcomes the submission of news stories, photos, letters or any other information that would be of interest to the readers of this newspaper.

NEWS OR SPORTS STORIES

If you or someone you know has been involved in an event you think is newsworthy, please include your name and contact information (either a daytime telephone number and/or email address). Please send the information in a timely manner following the event and remember to include as much pertinent information as possible, including the following: 1. WHO was involved? 2. WHAT was the event? 3. WHEN and WHERE did the event occur? 4. WHY was the event important?

PHOTO GUIDELINES & TIPS

All the information that goes with a news story should also accompany photo(s) as above. Include the names of all the people in each photo and identify from left to right and from back to front. 1. Set your camera to the highest resolution possible. The more resolution, the better the final outcome of the photo in print. 2. Don’t be shy! Get close to your subject(s). Most photos taken with a built-in zoom lens extended will produce “grainy” images that do not reproduce well. 3. Attempt to get dynamic photos of something happening instead of just a quick snapshot. 4. “Presentation” photos typically don’t work well if there are too many people side-by-side in the frame. If there are many people in the photo, have them as close together as possible and, if needed, have the front row seated and the back row standing. 5. Remember taking a picture facing into the sun or bright light will produce poor quality images.

Issue 1

Dear Residents: The purpose of our newsletter is to provide all residents in Warman & area with information as to what is happening in business, sport and our community. We believe it is important that as a learning and highly-involved community, we share this information with everyone. Please feel free to call Josh (306-933-2133) or Jennifer(306-933-2210) if you have suggestions or information for our newsletter.

Hello from Mayor and Council, On December 19th, the community of Warman paid tribute to Warman Fire Department Chief Gord Thompson for his 35 years of service. At the end of the year, Chief Thompson will officially close one chapter in his life and retire from the Warman Fire Department. The celebration held to honour all of Chief Thompson’s contributions to the community was only a small token of the INSERT PICTURE OF appreciation and thanks for the devotion, GORD THOMPSON dedication and commitment to public safety and community service. In attendance to pay tribute were elected officials, fellow Warman Fire Department members, residents of the community, friends, family and Chief Thompson’s wife Norma who has also been a dedicated resident of the community. Special presentations were also made to Chief Thompson. Member of Parliament, Kelly Block, awarded Chief Thompson with the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal for recognition of 40 years of loyal and exemplary service to public security in Canada. As Mayor, I was also honoured to present Chief Thompson with a “Thompson Road” street sign which will soon adorn one of the future Warman roadways. It was a fantastic evening for the community to thank Chief Gord Thompson for being a true pillar in the community. On behalf of the City of Warman and all of its residents I want to thank Chief Thompson for all he has done to make Warman home. In December, the City of Warman also bestowed the highest honour a resident of the community can receive to Coralie Bueckert. Coralie was awarded with the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for her dedication and commitment to the community. I want to extend my congratulations to Coralie on behalf of all residents of our wonderful community, thank you for spending countless hours to make our community a great place to call home.

Our spring and fall cleanup for 2015 were also a great success. Landfill fees for 2015 were $ 22,065.00 and it is important to note that this number does not include our labour and equipment costs. Again, we want to thank the residents for using this service. Your participation helps make our community a clean and nontoxic for everyone. Lastly, the organics waste depot was well received by our residents. We received little to no complaints this year and had minimal abuse of the depot. The total cost was $18,075.00 but well worth the cost when the residents are using it the way it was designed. Please remember this New Year to watch for our Christmas tree drop off site. These bins will be located in the same spot as the compost bins. As we move into 2016, we are eager to develop our Environment Master Plan. This plan will allow the City of Warman to plan for the future in a way that is sustainable. Thanks again for your concern and participation in making Warman an environmentally concerned community. Respectfully submitted, Councilor Kendall Shram Environment Health Services, Public Health and Welfare Committee Chair Transportation Committee Report The City of Warman has been working with Dillon Consulting to create a guiding document to implement a Transportation Master Plan for the City of Warman. We had our first open house on November 18th and we thank all of the people that made it out on the blizzard like evening. We will be offering another transportation open house on January 13th, 2016 from 2-4pm and 5-7pm at the Brian King Centre. So what are some of the recommendations that council will have to consider and would like to hear your input? 

Reduced School zone areas, based more on the direct frontage of schools, other factors will come into play like type of street, fencing, traffic counts.

Increased speed limits on our arterial roads (standard of 50 km). As well as a review of which roads would warrant a 50km hour speed instead of 40 km. Recommendation is that all roadways become 50km hour except in school zones.

Use of pedestrian cross walks in place of school zones.

Respectfully submitted, Mayor Sheryl Spence Environmental Health Services & Public Health and Welfare Committee Report The Environmental Health Services and Public Health and Welfare Committee would like to thank the residents who participated in our very first Hazardous Waste Day on October 24th, 2015. We had roughly a 100 cars come through our drive- thru event with hazardous waste. The cost of such an event was $15,385.00 and it was well worth it when we are able rid our homes of compressed gases, flammable liquids, toxics, corrosives, batteries, oil, paint, CFL bulbs and

truck traffic to 6th Ave, Industrial Ave, Central Street and 3051 (3051 would be based on when improvements to that roadway were completed in the future as development moves west of 3051).

florescent tubes as well as our old electronics.

More consistent signage and reducing number of signs.

Re-route truck routes with development of future arterial roadways. Eventually move

Policies be put in place that provide warrants to the city to determine when improvements should be made.

Parking along Centennial Blvd and as well along Central Street.

Lights are proposed at 6th and Central Street intersection, Centennial Boulevard and Central Street intersection, and 4th and Central Street intersection. Potential lights are also proposed in future budgets at Clubhouse Boulevard and Centennial Boulevard and into the future stone gate (would be based on growth rates).

The effect of future development on the existing and planned transportation network including the effect of the Highway 305 and Highway 11 interchange arterials and collector roadways.

So please come out January 13th to give your input as the City of Warman Council will start the implementation of the Transportation Master Plan in 2016. For more information go to Warman.ca Respectfully submitted, Councillor Gary Philipchuk, Transportation Committee Chair On behalf of the City of Warman Council and staff, we wish you and yours a happy New Year with hope that you will have many blessings in the year to come.

As always, do not hesitate to call your Mayor or Council if you have questions, suggestions or just want to chat. We always welcome conversation with the residents of this great city. From all of us on Warman City Council

Warman High School Newsletter Dear Parents, Students and Community Members: The purpose of our newsletter is to provide all residents in Warman, Osler & area with information as to what is happening not only in education, but in business, sport and community. We believe it is important that as a learning and highly-involved community we share this information with everyone, not just the parents of students. Please feel free to call us at the school (306-933-2377) or at the town (306-933-2621) if you have suggestions or information for our newsletter. Please check out the WHS website at www.spiritsd.ca/warmanhigh for daily announcements, photos and more!

Bus Lane Parking - We would appreciate it if parents would NOT park in the bus lane when picking up or dropping off your child/children from school. We encourage you to use the south entrance of the school. If you need to pick up your child, please wait until 3:15 to use the bus lane as we have 11 buses that need to be able to access the bus lane. Also, when you are entering the bus lane, please remember that the traffic is ONE WAY and that you MUST enter from Klassen Street. Entering from Central Street causes traffic jams.

Warman Scratch and Claw Wrestling Tournament

Building on the success of hosting SHSAA Regional Wrestling last year, the Wolverine Wrestling team is hosting a tournament at the Legends Center on January 16. It is an all day event starting at 9:00 am. Warman will be sending about 30 wrestlers, boys and girls, grades 9-12. It is guaranteed to be a good time. Teams from 30 schools from Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba will be attending the event. Come out and support the Warman High School Wrestling team.

Senior Girls Basketball

The Sr. Girls Basketball is well under way competing in the Bowlt Tournament in Saskatoon and our co-ed home tournament. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help make the tournament go well. This year the team consists of four grade twelves who work hard on the court and many new players who have shown many positive attributes to making this a competitive team. We have planned one tournament in Prince Albert and a few home games in January. Come out and cheer on the Wolverines!

Wolverine Junior Basketball

The Wolverine Junior Basketball teams are off to another successful season with all four teams with 12- 14 players.

Our next meeting is being held on Wednesday, January 20th at 6:30 p.m. in Rm. 210 at WHS. Everybody is welcome to attend! Please visit www.spiritsd.ca/whs/ for more information on school happenings and the SCC. Please become an involved parent in your child’s education.

The Junior A Girls Basketball is gearing up for a busy month. The Junior Girls enter 2016 undefeated with a record of 7 Wins and 0 Losses. The team won the Langham tournament, and has defeated Dalmeny, Hepburn, and Waldheim in league play. The Junior Girls and Boys will be hosting the 7th Annual Blast Off Junior Tournament at WHS on January 15th and 16th. Local teams as well as teams from Lloyd and Melfort will be in attendance at what is becoming one of the best junior tournaments in the Province. The team will also be travelling to Lloyd for the Hot Hoops tournament, and will finish the regular season at the Kenaston tournament. The Girls are led by the strong trio of returning players Cara Misskey, Paige Pomarenski, and Rebecca Sawatsky. The team is a mix of 7,8,9 players with grade 7’s Taylor Kosmynka and Bailey Coulter making this years squad. Grade 9 point guard Mackenzie Rowan, who played last year for Osler, has been a great addition. The girls are improving every week, and will need to continue to work hard to claim the league title in February. The Jr B Girls welcome Coaches Cody (intern) and Hannah Pat-

terson who are working with them this season with two games with a close game with Hague and a win over Warman Middle School. The Junior A Boys are also enjoying a good season opening with a 3-1 record. The B team won their season opener over Hague with an exciting come from behind win. Our combined A-B boys placed second at the Langham tournament with our only loss this season to Melfort. January will see us resume League play for both teams - plus several tournaments as the B Boys head to Davidson January 9, with both boys teams in our Blastoff Tournament , and the A boys to the Hot Hoops in Lloydminster (Jan 22-23). WHS will host the CVAC A League championships on February 5. The boys would like to thank Coach Dallyn who has returned for his second season as assistant coach and referee during his internship. Wolverine Girls Coaches, Wolverine Boys Coaches: Corey Fast, Russell Dyck, Evan Folden, Guy Farquharson, Daylon Dallyn

played last year and new players - some of whom have never played basketball before, which is great! The girls have been working hard at all practices and their efforts are paying off with improvements showing in everyone. So far the team has only had two games due to a cancellation by CRCEC, which has been rescheduled for the first week back in January. The girls had a very close first game against Hague which they lost by very small margin. Their second game against WCMS they played very well and won handily. They will have busy league play coming up in January and hope to be part of the final playoffs for the league title. Coaches Cody (intern) and Hannah Patterson.

Report from the

Legislature

Nancy Heppner MLA MARTENSVILLE CONSTITUENCY

Provincial Parks Set New Visitation Record in 2015 Saskatchewan’s provincial parks and recreation sites hit a new attendance record of nearly 3.9 million visits in 2015. Strong visitation can be attributed in part to the province continuing to provide excellent visitor services and the enhanced capital infrastructure investment. Our government is committed to investing in park infrastructure to support the current demand and future growth of visitation. Since 2007-08, our government has invested nearly $92 million in upgrades and improvements to provincial park infrastructure. Projects include the development of two new campgrounds, upgrading or replacement of service centres, extensive campsite electrical expansion and upgrading, water and wastewater system upgrades, new and enhanced boat launches, and new campsite furnishings. The opportunity to spend time with family and friends in a beautiful, natural setting is very important to the people of our province, and is only growing in popularity. We are proud to offer high-quality experiences and are always looking at ways that we can enhance our offerings. Provincial Parks Announce Dates for 2016 Seasonal Camping Program If you’re dreaming of summer as the winter weather starts settling in, there are a few dates you may want to circle on the calendar for 2016. Application forms for seasonal campsites will be available online at www.saskparks.net beginning Monday, January 4, 2016. The deadline for applications is Thursday, January 28, 2016 and the draw to award the campsites will be Monday, February 1, 2016. Seasonal camping offers the opportunity to secure a campsite from mid-May to the end of August, or even into September at some of the 20 parks and recreation sites that offer the program. Due to the popularity of seasonal camping, sites are allocated via a lottery system. Due to the spring election, the dates for the nightly camping reservation launch will move to April. It will follow the same format as 2015, utilizing a queuing system and staggering the launch over a 10 day period. More information about the launch will be available early in 2016.

Happy New Year!
