Historical Sketch The Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Inc., spoken of by the Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy (1 Tim. 3:15) was revived in these last days by St. Mary Magdalena Tate, who is the First Chief Overseer and Mother in True Holiness and Sanctification, in 1903. St. Mary Magdalena felt moved by the Holy Ghost to go out into the world and preach the Gospel, first at Steel Springs, TN. She chose as her co-laborers in the Gospel, her two little sons, the older one, Walter Curtis Lewis, and the younger one, Felix Early Lewis. In Paducah, KY, Brooklyn, IL, Paris, TN, Greenville, AL and throughout many other cities and states in the United States, St. Mary Magdalena stood up and boldly preached the Gospel in the cleanness of the Word of God of things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. Two of her first converts and recipients of the Holy Ghost were her two sisters at Paducah, KY, Queen Esther Edwards and Dora Louvenia O’Neal, who became ministers and bishops in the Church. By 1908, St. Mary Magdalena had a number of local bands in many places set up and organized. The first great General Assembly of the Church was held in 1908 at Greenville, AL. At this great Pentecostal revival of the Church, over 300 people received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire. “At this assembly much business was transacted for the Church, both spiritually and temporally.” Mother Tate was ordained to the bishopric and appointed First Chief Overseer of the Church by the elders present at the first General Assembly in 1908. The first four state bishops were ordained at Quitman, GA in June 1914. They were Bishops J. D. Pagitt, B. J. Scott, W.C. and F. E. Lewis. 2018 General Assembly Theme July 15-24, 2018

Holy Greetings! We usually have around three “official themes” during each year; (1) Twelve Days Revival: (2) General Assembly: and (3) HYPA. Considering all the evils which continue to plague churches and the saints across the nation and world, I am led to combine all three “official themes” into a single theme for this coming year (2018). Hold On! Hold Up! And Hold Out! Hold On to the things you have learned and been assured of: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” (II Timothy 3:14). “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck.” (I Timothy 1:19); and, “Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain,” (Philippians 2:16). (2) Hold Up for true holiness and sanctification: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession,” (Hebrews 4:14); “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good, (I Thessalonians 5:21); “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness,” (Ephesians 4:24; and, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Hebrews 12:14). (3) Hold Out to the end: “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end [the same] shall be saved,” (Matthew 10:22; 24:13; and Mark 13:13). Yours faithfully, Meharry H. Lewis, Chief Overseer
