Shetland weaving workshops and classes 2016 Events for beginners and more advanced weavers Yell, Shetland Isles

Sunday 27th March 2016 - starting out in weaving. One day workshop. £45. Suitable for absolute beginners. This workshop will teach you the basics of weave structures using pre-warped looms. Ideal for people who want to give weaving a try but do not have the time to make a warp and thread up a loom, the class is relaxed and easy-going. You will learn how a handloom works and how to create different patterns based on traditional Shetland tweeds. The class size is small - up to five - so you will quickly develop confidence and will know by the end of the session if you want to continue exploring weaving.

Saturday and Sunday 30th and 31st July 2016 beginners workshops. One or two days. £60 per day Suitable for absolute beginners or for those with very litte experience. Can be taken as one day or both days. First day - learn the basics of weaving. Second day patterns. This duo of workshops is for those who know they would like to learn more about weave but do not have the knowledge or confidence to do more by themselves. It is a little more advanced than the starting out in weaving workshop and will teach you the ideas behind making warps and designing patterns, in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. You will learn how to create patterns and choose colours in this series. By the end of the second day you should have a short length of cloth that you will have created yourself. If you do not have time for a two day class, each day is designed as a stand-alone event. In the first day, you will learn about warping up while in the second you will learn about patterns and sampling. This makes the individual sessions ideal for people who simply want a refresher. Wool Week 2016 - 24th September to 2nd October beginners and intermediate workshops - three days. £65. Please see the Wool Week website for details. These workshops can be taken separately or together. The workshops are for absolute beginners with no knowledge through to weavers who have experience and want to weave cloths based on Shetland tweed. To book any of these workshops, please contact Kirsty Jean or Andy.
