NEW SOFTWARE COULD AUTOMATE APPROVAL OF 6,000 CONNECTICUT SOLAR PERMIT APPLICATIONS FILED EACH YEAR. The solar permitting software officials in Arizona and California recently tested and determined will free up building department staff time for more complicated applications is being introduced to municipal officials in Connecticut starting with a pilot program in May. The SolarAPP+ is a free web-based platform for automatic approval of standard residential solar permits that meet local requirements. The U.S. Department of Energy provided development funding and partnered with national code and standard organizations - IAEI, NFPA, and ICC who contributed to SolarAPP+ to verify code compliance for common home PV system designs. SolarAPP+ integrates with other permitting software. SolarAPP+ saved local officials in Arizona and California 236 hours on permit review during the pilot and cut permit approval times to less than one day on average. The nearly 50,000 Connecticut home solar permits approved to date have been performed by hand. State officials estimate 30,000 home solar permit applications could be filed with local municipalities over the next five years the bulk of which could be processed instantly using SolarAPP+. The Connecticut Office of the State Building Inspector has authorized SolarAPP+ pilot municipalities to permit home solar applications using electrical codes scheduled to take effect later this year.

and natural environments. Forward-thinking solutions must address the current and future effects of climate change. The effects of climate change are broad, with implications for infrastructure, ecosystems, and human health. Understanding these implications and developing strategies to address them are the foundation of Fuss & O’Neill’s approach to climate resiliency. We work with clients to design improvements that are specific for their needs. Some projects utilize a natural approach, in which our engineers and scientists work to mimic or restore the resiliency of natural systems. Natural systems adjust to changes in conditions, require less maintenance, and provide a number of indirect impacts such as improving shade and habitat. Some projects use hybrid techniques to make infrastructure and development more resilient, which can significantly reduce capital and maintenance costs. Your solution will be tailored to your concern and will help your community now and for many years to come.

Nearly 300 employees strong, our size is part of our strength. While we have the experience and resources of a larger firm, we maintain the responsiveness and flexibility of a smaller service provider. This uncommon blend of expertise and personal attention gives us our competitive edge. Our service areas include site/civil engineering; traffic engineering; Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology; utility engineering; environmental engineering including water, stormwater, wastewater, coastal and marine; structural engineering; and construction management and administration services.
