It’s crunch time for the annual Recycled Art for Cowra (RAFCA) awards with hundreds of entries from local students on display from next Wednesday. With a theme this year of “Song Titles” there’s bound to be much creativity in the entries on display at Cowra Aquatic Centre on Wednesday, August 31 until Friday, September 2, and on Monday, September 5 and Tuesday, September 6, between 10–3.30pm. Judging for this year’s RAFCA will be on Friday, September 9 with the awards presented on Sunday, September 11. “We’re expecting hundreds of entries, so we are urging everyone to put the finishing touches to their creations and ‘get’em in’ — you’ve got to be in it to win it!” Tidy Towns Chairperson, Cr Judi Smith said. “Make sure you attach a note saying what your song title is, prizes are up to $500 for ‘Best in Show’, with heaps of other great prizes for first, second, third and highly-commended. Winners will also be exhibited in the pavilion at the Show.”

Looking to adopt? Save a Pound pet! Looking for a dog or cat? Consider Cowra Council’s “Adopt a Pound Pet” Program which offers a great chance to offer a loving home to pets currently placed at the Cowra Pound.

“The program aims to reduce the euthanasia of dogs that are brought to the Pound with no identification; Pound animals that are adopted are micro-chipped by Council to reduce the cost of registration by the new owner,” Director — Environmental Services, Kate Alberry said. “Council also offers a trial period of two-weeks to ensure that the animal is well-suited to its new environment before the animal is registered,” Kate added.
