Gooloogong received a Big Lift! Forty university students visited Gooloogong to volunteer their help with community projects around the town last month. The students helped out with projects at the Log Cabin, The War Memorial Hall, Kangarooby Landcare, Gooloogong Public School, Gooloogong Rural Fire Brigade and the Racecourse Trust. The students enjoyed a roast dinner at the Log Cabin where they also stayed for the chilly night!

GOOLOOGONG PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWS GROUNDS ASSISTANCE During the holidays a happy band of 40 Sydney University students from Sydney helped out a number of communities within the central west by donating their labour skills. Our school benefitted by a small group of students who helped Ruth compliment the local Landcare’s nature area within the school. Thanks, Ruth, Kylie Reeves and Ann-Maree for organizing and catering for the group & Erica for helping on the day. HEALTHY HAROLD Last Friday the children had a visit from Healthy Harold and the Life Education Van. As always the children found the information very educational and they discussed Environmental Health Issues, Emergency Procedures, individual needs for medicines and safe use and storage of same. Also they investigated the definition of legal drugs, decision making, emotions, peer pressure, risk taking, problem solving, safe and appropriate use of communication technology. Thank you to Rae the presenter for providing the children with very up to date and useful information. BOOK FAIR. The Annual Book Fair will be held on Wednesday 5th August in the School Hall. All members of the public are invited to come along and have a look at the terrific display of books available at really reasonable prices. Great for gifts, Christmas etc. Please come along and have a look
GOOLOOGONG RED CROSS CLUB It is with deep regret that the Gooloogong Red Cross Club must cease operations. With two members leaving the district and the remaining few aging members wishing to retire we find there are insufficient members remaining to carry on. Maybe in the future there will be some younger residents willing to start the club operating again. Thanks for all the community support in the past and the best of luck for the future. Liaison Officer, Colleen Coates

Landcare news The “Big Lift” visit from students of UTS on the 5th July certainly was a productive morning in Gooloogong. Two groups of students helped with Landcare projects. One group planted 150 trees and shrubs in a corridor beside the Gooloogong Silo Rd. The tube stock was frozen in the early morning chill but seems to have survived! A second group spread mulch to extend the native garden at the Goolie School. The campfire morning tea at the Silo Rd and Ann Maree’s wonderful coffees at the school were highlights of the morning. There will be no August meeting of Landcare as we have just had the Planet Ark/Cowra Council Tree Giveaway Day on Sunday 26th. Photos next month. The next Landcare Meeting will be Wednesday 9th September. Photos 1. Icy morning 2. Clean Fire Trucks 3. Mulch 4. Tree planting at GPS
