Yellow Duck Mission Accomplished

Anzac Morning

Mrs Elaine Clements & Mr Ray Walsh

We felt very privileged on April 24th at the Neighbourhood centre. Joining us were Mrs Elaine Clements (WWII Nurse), Mr Frank Bridges (Vietnam Veteran) and Mr Harry Bryant (WWII Navigator) for our special ANZAC morning tea. Each recounting their personal account of their time of service for Australia in incredible detail. Thank you to all of our speakers for a very memorable and enjoyable morning tea.

Here’s an update on a story featured in our Autumn Newsletter. The Little Yellow Duck Project was a huge success. When more than 200 children searched the Japanese Garden for Easter eggs, they also received a Little Yellow Duck. The Little Yellow Duck Project raises awareness of blood, bone marrow and tissue donation.

Give Happy Live Happy” Volunteer Week 2015

"Hear the Voice of the Community" Neighbourhood Centre Week 2015 “Did you know? “Volunteering is highly associated with greater health and happiness” It was great to see such a large turnout for our Volunteer & Neighbourhood Centre Week Celebration for 2015. Our bright green shirts were spread out all through the room. It is important to take the time to express our gratitude to our volunteers. It takes a special kind of person to be a volunteer and we really appreciate the work they do for us. It was also great to see so many people from the Community come to celebrate Neighbourhood Centre Week. It is very important that we hear your feedback so we can meet the needs

of our Community. Again I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers for Cowra Information & Neighbourhood Centre. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you. Thank You.

Chances Clothes Project

Another Crafty Kids Workshop has come and gone much too quickly. I hope all the children had as much fun as we did. It was great to have Anne come along again and show the children more beading. She had the kids making beautiful beaded flowers for Mother’s day presents. I heard the children say as they left “I made you a present but I’m keeping it”. They were much too proud to part with them! The children loved the sewing room. They made some lovely sewing cases full of different colours and made hand sewn monsters that turned out very scary! The children went crazy for the loom bands again and loved doing their Gods Eyes and French Knitting. Lucky we had Chris & Sharee to teach them.

I thought for the mural theme it would be a great idea to ask the kids what they would like to see at Crafty Kids. I got some very interesting answers. Some of the answers were; a pool, board games, movies and fast food places. This wasn’t really what I had in mind but I love where they went with the idea. I will see what I can do kids! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped; Sharee Ryan, Chris McFarlane, Nikki Howden, Dawn Evans & Anne Zaino. You all did a marvellous job! Hope to see everyone here next time.

Rhonda Ward displaying the feotal dolls

CCP Volunteer Rhonda Ward spent countless hours hand-stitching these specially designed foetal dolls, which she generously donated to CCP. Rhonda created a set of 15 foetal dolls with accurate body measurements for every fortnight between 12 and 40 weeks of gestation. One of the tasks our local CCP volunteers perform is sizing donated baby bereavement clothing into gestational baby age. Thanks to Rhonda’s foetal dolls, this task is physically much easier. felt slightly overcome with emotion at having first held these dolls – especially the 36 week sized doll which reminded me so much of my lost little girl Chance. Thank you for your devotion to CCP, Rhonda. I cannot overstate my personal gratitude. CCP meets fortnightly on Tuesdays from 1pm3pm. We warmly welcome new faces. No handicraft skills are necessary – just a desire to chat with ladies who are passionate about supporting bereaved families.
