RAFCA 2018
For all our creative and environmentally aware young people, a reminder that entry dates for the annual Recycled Art for Cowra (RAFCA) competition are fast approaching. This year’s theme is Fantasy Characters and their Fantastic Adventures, and we are again looking forward to some wonderful creations, using any characters in books,TV or films.
Hopefully you are all well started on your sculptures, whether as individuals or in your classes. If not, time to get cracking, as there are wonderful cash prizes of up to $500 to be won. Make sure all the materials you use are recycled. If you need any more information, contact Judi Smith or Chris Cannard at Council, and you can pick up an entry form at the Council front desk or download from Council’s website. Entries for the RAFCA competition will be accepted at the Cowra Aquatic Centre on Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31 between 11am and 2pm and on Monday, September 3 and Tuesday, September 4 between 1pm to 5pm. Judging will be held on Wednesday, September 5 with the exhibition held on Sunday, September 9. Categories available for entry are: Preschool Individual,
Preschool Group, Infants Individual, Infants Group, Primary Individual, Primary Group, High School (7-9) individual, High School (10-12) individual and High school group. Hoping to see lots of fantastic sculptures!

Notice to Residents - Footpath Construction Cowra Council will shortly commence the construction of a footpath from Binni Creek Rd along the north side of Comerford St to the current cycleway/footpath in London Drive. Works are planned to commence later this month and expected to take between two and three weeks weather permitting. Access across the reserve in Comerford St will be restricted to allow construction and curing. Residents and motorists are advised that there may be minor disruptions to traffic during this time and apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. SCIENCE WEEK 2018 This event will feature special screenings of short films from the Science Hub Orange Cowra Cabonne + SCINEMA International Science Film Festival 2018.
A partnership between the Science Hub Orange Cowra Cabonne, Natural Resource Management (NRM) Cowra, Cowra Council and The Office of Environment and Heritage, the event will be held at the Cowra Civic Centre on Friday 10 August from 7pm to 10pm. There will be no cost, but a gold coin donation is appreciated to go to a local charity. Food and drinks will be supplied during the evening by SHOCC and NRM Cowra, and prizes will be given on the night. Bookings are essential via the eventbrite website or tel: 0413 910697. This event supported by Inspiring Australia and the CORRIDOR project.
