COUNCIL AT WORK — GEORGE CAMPBELL BRIDGE
Wear-and-tear on George Campbell Bridge over Waugoola Creek on Darbys Falls Road has required a recent maintenance overhaul of the utility. Constant traffic impact from loads and ageing of the structural timbers of the bridge creates the need for routine maintenance involving Council staff tightening the nuts and bolts to bed-down the structure as rigidly as possible. The work also involves renewing timber decking that has deteriorated to the point of needing replacement. Recent speed restrictions on the bridge have helped minimise the damage caused by traffic impacting loads in the interim period. Work is continuing on the bridge with traffic control in place creating minor delays for vehicles.
