BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR WEST COWRA ROADWORKS! All major businesses, services, and community groups in west Cowra that will be affected by the Roads and Maritime Services roadworks due to start on Monday, October 16 have vowed to remain open throughout the project. These include Cowra Visitor Information Centre, the Rose Garden Cafe, McDonalds, The Mobil Service Centre, Cowra Tennis Club, Lachlan Steel, and Southwell Irrigation. RMS contractors have already started preliminary work with traffic islands being

removed as night-time work starting this week. Daytime work commences on Monday with contractors for the RMS upgrading the pavement for approximately 400 metres of Grenfell Road.This will include the intersections with Boorowa Road and Young Road. Work will run during daylight hours Monday–Friday and include removal of the existing pavement and replacement with new asphalt. Once work is completed, the traffic islands and line-marking will be replaced. Roadworks will be staged to limit congestion and to assist traffic-flow. Traffic controllers will

PRESTIGIOUS LOCAL ART AWARD Artists from throughout the district feature at Cowra Regional Art Gallery’s new show, the 2017 Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards with the winner announced tonight! The announcement of the winning works commences at 6.30pm with Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West opening this exciting exhibition of more than 140 works of varying styles and a diverse range of subjects by some of the best creative talent from the region. Admission is free with entries by artists living in a100-km radius from Cowra including paintings, drawings, watercolours, mixed media, and — back by popular demand — a special display of miniatures. Judge this year is Bradley Hammond, Director of Orange Regional Gallery and Orange Regional Museum. This event will be the ninth Biennial exhibition organised by Cowra Art Group Inc that has been staged at Cowra Regional Art Gallery with exhibition dates from Saturday, October 14 to Sunday, October 29. Cowra Regional Art Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10–4pm and Sunday 2–4pm with admission free. SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL TRAINING FOR BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS

Cowra Council is offering a free training course for builders and contractors on the topic of erosion and sediment control. Poor erosion and sediment control on building, development and Council worksites poses a significant environmental risk to our community. Cowra Council is working with all key stakeholders in order to reduce that risk. The course will address a range of issues, including: Why it makes sense to manage erosion and sediment. The law and erosion and sediment control. Common sense approaches to erosion and sediment control. Developing basic erosion and sediment control plans. Common problems and solutions. The event is on next Tuesday, October 17 from 5–7.30pm at the Cowra Council Chambers, 116 Kendal Street Cowra. Bookings are essential, phone 6340 2040 for information.
