Cowra Council Civil Construction traineeship extended!

Applications for Cowra Council’s Traineeship program for the position of civil construction have been extended. Now in its fifth year, the program offers local school-leavers the unique chance to make a start on their working lives with training in their field of choice with Cowra Council for a full year. The Civil Construction Traineeship involves working on roads construction and maintenance projects. Trainees will also complete a Certificate II in Civil Construction involving completing 10 core units and six electives over 12 months. The 12-month traineeships start in February 2018 through to February 2019 with all study completed through TAFE NSW. “This program provides three benefits. It helps young people in Cowra to get their first job, to learn while they earn, and to stay in Cowra so they don’t have to

move for work opportunities,” Cowra Council General Manager, Paul Devery said. “As well as gaining hands-on experience in a range of fields, the trainees also complete post-school studies with Cowra TAFE that also then increase their job prospects,” Mr Devery explained. A number of previous trainees have been able to secure permanent positions with Council and others have used the skills and experience to obtain employment with other businesses in Cowra. “If you’re a local kid who wants to start your career in Cowra, then our traineeship program is a great place to begin,” Mr Devery concluded. Call Cowra Council’s Human Resources Manager Leanne Hughes on 6340 2031 for more information, or go to: www.cowracouncil.com.au.
