COWRA COUNCIL
NOTICEBOARD ADOPT A POUND PET Cowra Council’s “Adopt a Pound Pet” Program provides you the opportunity to offer a loving home to dogs and cats currently placed at Cowra Pound. The program aims to reduce the euthanasia of cats and dogs that are brought to the Pound with no identification; Pound animals that are adopted are micro-chipped by Council to reduce the cost of registration by the new owner. Council also offers a trial period of two-weeks to ensure
that the animal is well-suited to its new environment before the animal is registered. To adopt a Cowra Pound Animal, you only need to pay the following registration fees: • $201 for undesexed dog or cat • $55 for undesexed dog or cat owned by a registered breeder • $55 for a desexed dog or cat • $23 for a desexed dog or cat owned by an eligible pensioner. • $27.50 for a desexed animal sold by an eligible pound or shelter • $55 for an undesexed animal under 6 months

COUNCIL SUPPORTING LOCAL ACHIEVERS Cowra Council recently helped a group of locals achieve their dreams with donations for a number of sporting, community, and educational events. This included $600 to local girl, Jessica Hayes to help cover her costs to attend the New Zealand Australian Martial Arts Championships in late October as part of the Australian team. Other donations included $600 to local girl Jade Te Weehi to attend the NSW Hockey Girls Invitational Tour of New Zealand in late September; $600 each to Patricia Foxall and Andrew Fisher to attend the International Triathlon Union World Championships to be held in Holland in September; and $250 towards the cost of this year’s Morongla Sheep Dog Trials. A $5000 donation was also approved to the Orange Cowra Cabonne Science Hub to help facilitate science events for Cowra students and residents over the year (subject to matching funding from Orange and Cabonne Councils). “These donations are recognition of locals who have excelled in their field with achievements that have added to the cultural and sporting life of our community,” Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West said. Cowra is a rural-based township in the NSW central west approximately four hours west of Sydney. The Shire completed a history of the district in 1988 titled Cowra on the Lachlan. This publication was a series of essays contributed by local authors on local history, sports, community groups, villages, churches, and local government. Cowra Council is now requesting quotes to appoint a Managing Editor to undertake the management and oversight of the Cowra History Book 1988-2018. This project aims not to revise or update Cowra on the Lachlan, but to complement it with a new work that will cover the economic, social, cultural and physical changes to Cowra in the last 30 years. Cowra Council is seeking to contract a Managing Editor to research, compile, write, oversight, edit, and publish this new edition as a hard-copy book and in an electronic book form. Request for Quotes (RFQ) close at 4pm on Friday 8 September, 2017. To download the RFQ brief on the proposed work, go to our website at: cowracouncil.com.au under “Tenders and Quotes”.
