Major road works for new year Road works to connect Brisbane St to Brisbane Avenue early next year are being undertaken by Cowra Council as contractors to the John Holland Group. The works are planned to start in mid-January 2017 and take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete. Work will include drainage, kerb and gutter, construction of a new footpath, relocation of a water-main, and installation of a “stay-pole” for electricity. Access to private residences/properties is not likely to be affected by the work. However, to facilitate the work, there will be no through-traffic to Argoon St
from Brisbane St. Residents and Motorists are also advised that there may be minor disruptions to traffic during this time with traffic control measures in place. Council apologises for any inconvenience that these major works may cause and appreciate the patience of local residents and motorists. For more information, call Cowra Council on 6340 2070.

Siren’s new safe sun message at Cowra Pool
Cowra Aquatic Centre has recently launched a new safe sun message at Cowra Aquatic Centre to remind swimmers of the importance of “slip, slop, slap” while enjoying the great outdoors. The new initiative from the Cancer Council involves a “Sun Sound” at 11am each day to warn swimmers of the importance of applying sunscreen during the time of the day with highest ultra violet index. Another siren will also sound at 3pm to remind swimmers that the period of highest UV index has passed for the day. Melanoma is one of the most dangerous preventable cancers in Australia killing about 1600 people each year with exposure to the sun the main cause. New “Sun Sound” message at Cowra Aquatic Centre will remind swimmers to “slip, slop, slap” each day!
