P & C Meeting
Wednesday, 15 February
6pm
As we come to the end of Week 3, I am very pleased to report on how well all students have settled in to their new classes. In particular, our Kindergarten students have taken to “big school” like ducks to water, and it seems like they have been here for months instead of just a few weeks! Thank you to our Kinder teachers and parents who have encouraged and prepared the students for this very important transition. Today the Cowra Guardian visited our school to take the annual “Captains and Kindies” photo and this will appear in the paper in the next week or so. Thank you to the large number of parents who turned up to our Parent Information Evening last Thursday night. It was wonderful to see such a strong turn-out and we look forward to developing strong home-school partnerships with all of our CPS families. An important part of building these relationships is the development of a Learning Support Plan (LSP) for students requiring additional support in the classroom or a Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) for all of our Aboriginal students. These plans are a mandatory requirement and enable students the opportunity to talk with their teacher and their parent and together, develop learning goals for the year ahead. If your child requires either a PLP or LSP you will receive a note from their teacher requesting an interview. This year Primary teachers we will be holding LSP and PLP interviews from 3:45pm – 8:30pm on Thursday 22nd February. Infants teachers will hold their LSP meetings next Thursday 22nd February from 3:30pm – 6:00pm and PLP’s will be the following Thursday 1st March from 3:30pm-6:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding these meetings. Thank you to the teachers for their time and effort in preparing and hosting these important meetings. The highlight of the week was our annual School Swimming Carnival which was held on Tuesday. The weather was perfect and it was wonderful to see such strong House spirit. Congratulations to our House Captains – Anabelle Sturgiss (Brigalow), Kaili Buckley (Myall), Janet Cheng (Wandoo) and Ella Kilby (Kurrajong) who led their Houses in some rousing war cries and cheered all day long! Throughout the day, students participated in both competitive races and novelty events, ensuring there was a balance of fun and competition for all. Hats off to the “Parents” Relay Team who, once again, defeated the “Teachers” in the 4 x 50m relay…never mind, there’s always next year! A huge thank you must go out to Miss Samantha Dunk and Mrs Shavaughn Duncan for their outstanding organisation and to all the staff, parents and family members who worked hard to make the carnival such a success. Thanks also to Mr Kerry Lynch and his staff at the Cowra Aquatic Centre and Hugh Scammell and Rohan McKay from Cowra Swimming Club, who did such a wonderful job in getting the pool ready for the day. The District team is currently being finalised and the Age Champions and Winning House will be announced shortly. This year the District Carnival will be held in Boorowa on Friday 23rd February. On Wednesday, our Scripture program started for 2018 and I thank the large number of dedicated Scripture teachers for their effort and time in instructing our students. We are very grateful for their continued support of our school. A reminder that our first P&C Meeting for 2018 will be held this evening in the school staffroom starting at 6:00pm. All parents are welcome to attend. Have a great week… Jenny Lewis Principal

~!~!PANCAKE TUESDAY!~!~
What a massive day we had in the pool on Tuesday!! Miss Dunk and I would like to thank our very hard working and committed staff who assisted in every capacity and made the day run so smoothly. Congratulations to the winners and place getters today and to those students who just pushed themselves that little bit further or who just 'had a go'. CPS students ALWAYS make me proud when I take them out of the school setting and Tuesday was no exception! To our wonderful parents who came along to cheer, support, hand out ribbons ( and smash the teachers in the Parent/Staff relay for about the 4th year in a row!) - thankyou so much. Lastly a very sincere thankyou to the great staff at the Cowra Aquatic Centre for their assistance and to the Cowra Stingrays who allowed us to use their equipment and clubroom. Our CPS School team will compete in Boorowa next Friday. Those selected for the District team will then compete in Dubbo. See details below:
